I rushed downstairs to prepare food as fast as possible before Cletus would finish getting ready for work. On getting to the dining which was in an opposite direction to the kitchen. I smelled something very nice, "breakfast".

Breakfast was already prepared, toasted bread and egg. Cletus was on a funny apron frying the last egg when I got to the kitchen panting.

His back was turned to me and I stood watching him from afar careful not to make a sound. I would have teased him, tickled him, laughed or smiled like a teenager just like I used to while we were still dating but I remained indifferent. He had lost all his power on me the day he killed my kids. I couldn't see myself doing any of the things I used to do before.

It all felt like a long long time ago.

The aroma from the egg was so nice, I knew it would taste as delicious as it smelled. That's one of the things I loved about him he was an amazing cook but he refused to cook ever since we got married because it was the woman's job to do, hence my job.

"Good Morning to the prettiest woman in the whole world." He sang, immediately he turned around to see me. "How long have ye been standing watching thou?" He asked as he embraced me.

I forced a smile on my face. My face hurt from it.

"Let me get NNE ready for school," I mumbled. It was an escape for me. I needed to be away from him, by every means possible. He let me go tugging on my cheeks. Then he placed a feathery kiss on my lips. "I love you pretty." He whispered.

But I wasn't going to.

As much as I loved him, it was now In the past and I was no longer going to let the past define me.

I would live for the future now with only one goal in mind, protecting my daughter.

I didn't believe him anymore. My mind overpowered my heart now and when I looked at him, I saw a monster.

No more lies.

No more victimization.

Mind over heart.

I kept repeating to myself as I got Nne ready for school.
