Lucky Star

Chapter 9 - BUCKWHEAT BISCUITS....

"Then let's get going Aunt Melan, Lina." Mu Chang said as he beamed happily and walked towards the dining area.

"You look more delighted than you were in the morning, did you receive any promise from Lina?" Mu Cong asked suspiciously when he saw how Mu Chang was beaming in delight.

"So what if I did?" Mu Chang boasted as he took his seat beside his grandmother and followed by De Xi on his other side.

"They will be here by ten tonight. The elders will go straight to the Mu Ancestral Mansion, whereas all others will come here." Grandma Mu said as she looked towards De Xi calmly as if trying to gouge the latter's expression and feelings.

"When did they start that they will be here so early?" Mu Cong asked unhappily.

Even Mu Chang, who was beaming a moment ago, had a frown on his face.

"We are not sure either, but you seem very unhappy about it." Grandma Mu asked sharply, as her grandson's attitude towards the incoming guests displeased her.

"I'm sure he is not unhappy, but surprised. The tone came out a bit off. Now we should start eating, the food is getting cold. Aunt Melan, please serve the food." De Xi immediately became a peacemaker and diverted the topic.

Grandma Mu sighed lightly, and the lunch proceeded peacefully without much of an interaction between everyone.

After lunch, everyone went back to the living room just in time to see few people entered the living room.

A lady dressed in a beige business suit led the group of blue-collar workers inside the living room and greeted the elders inside the room with a bow and the other three with a polite nod.

"President, I have brought them here as instructed." Cheng Jiu said in a curt and respectful tone.

Cheng Jiu nodded her head in understanding and led the group towards the garden. After the group left the living room, Father Mu looked at De Xi questioningly.

"What are we repairing or reconstructing are we something?" Father Mu asked calmly in a curious tone.

"They are here to build safety rails along the river bank." De Xi answered immediately, with a small, graceful smile on her face.

"Why so suddenly, the kids in the house are already grown-ups." Grandma Mu asked in confusion.

"With lot of kids around there can be a lot of confusion, so I thought it is better to be safe than sorry." De Xi said casually with a warm smile.

No one was shocked because De Xi was always a meticulous person and was extra cautious when it came to kids.

"You did well." Grandpa Mu agreed with De Xi with a warm smile on his face, but there was a slight sorrow in his eyes which flashed momentarily and was gone without anyone noticing it.

As everyone settled down in their seats on the sofa, De Xi glanced towards the entrance when she felt that someone was there, and a beautiful smile bloomed on her face.

"I hope I did not disturb you, Mom." a blue-eyed, blonde head in his mid-teens walked inside the living room with a warm smile, similar to the morning sun, warm and soothing.

"When have you ever?" De Xi asked as she smiled warmly and opened her arms wide, asking for a warm hug.

He did not waste another minute and walked into De Xi's embrace with large strides. He smiled warmly as he wrapped his arms around De Xi's back and took in her sweet, warm scent.

"Don't forget your Grandma Mu and Great-grandma Mu." Mother Mu teased him as she beckoned him for a warm hug.

"How can I forget such beautiful ladies, it is a pity that I was born late, that I missed such fine ladies as my better halves," James said as he beamed towards both the ladies.

His warm smile widened as his sea-blue eyes sparkled in delight and happiness. He quickly walked towards Mother Mu and Grandma Mu as he gave them a warm hug.

"James, you surely won't have trouble in wooing girls in the future." Mu Chang stated in a matter-of-fact tone as he smirked teasingly.

"Of course I won't, after all the legendary Mu Chang and Mu Cong are my teachers in love." James said as he winked and hurried away from Mu Chang and greeted Grandpa Mu and Father Mu with a warm hug.

"This brat..." Mu Chang was about to scold James when everyone but Mu Cong glared at him in a warning.

"You are out of favor, the sooner you realize it the better it would be for you." Mu Cong said calmly with a casual shrug.

Mu Chang looked at him with a hurt expression, but the former looked at him calmly with an expressionless look.

"I'm really hurt." Mu Chang said as he patted his heart and sulked by himself.

"James, you don't have school today?" Father Mu asked affectionately.

"No Grandpa Mu, I have taken off from school to practice for the upcoming International Youth Piano Competition," James said with a warm smile as he settled down in between De Xi and Mother Mu.

"Did you have your lunch, honey?" Grandma Mu asked fondly with a warm motherly smile.

"I had it right before coming here, Great-grandma." James answered in a warm and respectful manner.

"That is good." Grandma Mu nodded in satisfaction as she smiled warmly.

As everyone settled down, the servants brought in the freshly brewed peppermint tea and some light snacks, as instructed by De Xi as the tea aids in easy digestion.

"Have some snacks." De Xi said as she took the plate of buckwheat biscuits and handed it to James.

"I'll have them later Mom, I'm pretty full now," James said as he looked at De Xi pleadingly.

"Make sure you do.." De Xi said with a soft chuckle and placed the plate back down on the tea table.
