Chapter 10 - MELODY....

"How is the practice going then?" Grandpa Mu asked as he picked up the teacup from the ray the servant was holding in front of him.

"It is pretty good, but I thought of changing the entry piece. That is why I came here for Mom's help in that." James said seriously as he was thoroughly considering his options.

"And here I thought that my son missed me." De Xi acted sorrowfully and lamented with a heavy sigh full of sorrow.

"That is the major reason, I was just making up another reason to cover it up." James immediately panicked and started coaxing De Xi, who had amusement dancing in her eyes.

"She is pulling your leg, James." Mu Cong warned him in an amused tone at how naïve James was acting.

"Even though Mom is faking it pretty obvious, I can't reveal her and have to play along with her as a filial son." James said in a matter-of-factly.

De Xi glared at James playfully and the latter blinked at her innocently with his puppy eyes, making other burst out laughing in amusement.

"But didn't we decide on the final entry pieces last time?" De Xi asked as she took one last sip of her tea and placed the cup back at the tea-table.

"We did but the tempo is too slow in the start and I'm unable to grasp it. Can we please change it?" James said as he looked at her pleadingly.

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress." De Xi advised him solemnly.

James was not ready to give up and was about to place his counter-argument, but De Xi nodded disapprovingly.

"The pieces I selected are outstanding ones perfect for your capacity and only a handful of participants played them in youth competitions. The right amount of practice and concentration is all we need to perfect it." De Xi refused to give in to his demands.

James looked at her for a whole moment and then nodded his head in agreement, though a little sulkily.

"Play it for us. I will guide you wherever I feel you need my help." De Xi immediately changed the topic and was satisfied when James nodded after a slight moment of hesitation.

"Yes, we would all like to hear it." Mother Mu also encouraged the little one with a warm, fond smile.

James nodded and walked towards the large painting right in front of the sofa. With a gentle push, the painting folded into many small vertical folding and opened as a sliding door, revealing a majestic white grand piano.

James walked towards the piano confidently as he sat down and opened the cover, revealing the ŀustrous keys.

he gently placed his slender and exquisite, jade-like fingers on top of them.

After a momentary pause, it seemed like air stilled and his fingers started dancing on top of the black and white keys creating a perfect rhythm.

Everyone was enjoying the beautiful music, which left the music and reached the hearts, soothing it. Suddenly another melody rang through the living room.

Though the volume was relatively low, its notes were powerful and superior, yet soothing in their own way.

De Xi opened her eyes, which she closed while enjoying the melody played by James.

She quickly silenced her mobile and excused herself without disturbing James, who was engrossed in his melody, to take the call.

"P-Professor, there is a VIP patient who is causing trouble in ER. Could you please hurry over? The doctor on call is in the surgery right now, so I could not get in touch with him." a worried and breathless voice came from the other side.

"I will be there in thirty minutes." De Xi said calmly in an indifferent tone.

She then waited for another moment and hung up. She then immediately re-entered the living room where James was still not done playing his song.

She quickly informed Mu Cong who was the nearest to her and left for the hospital without further ado, as every minute she delayed might lead the commotion in the ER to the next level.

De Xi quickly entered her Black Maybach, which was parked in the guest parking for immediate use, and sped off the gates of the mansion in no time.

She hurried towards the hospital, while quickly figuring out the traffic on the road, and reached the ER of the hospital a minute before thirty minutes from her call.

She quickly parked her car and entered the ER wearing her white coat while walking just in the time bound of thirty minutes was over, not a second late or early.

A blonde young man hurried towards her in scrubs and white coat with his identity card, dangling side-to-side. It stated his position as Chief Resident in bold black letters and his name Mark Andrew.

"Huh! Professor, you are here. The patient almost swallowed us as whole." Mark exclaimed as he reached his Professor and savior.

"What is the condition?" De Xi asked calmly as she walked towards the patient as directed by Mark.

"She says she is in a lot of pain, she said it feels like her skull is fractured." Mark said as he almost laughed out loud after she made her claim.

De Xi looked at him calmly, clearly surprised and annoyed at the same time. She breathed out to calm herself down as she already foresaw a headache of a patient awaiting her.

"Vitals" De Xi continued to ask the situation of the patient.

"All are stable, other than the possible severe headache as she states, nothing else seems abnormal. At the moment we have administered her mild painkillers to subdue her pain." Mark said in a serious tone.

De Xi looked at him coldly, making him break out in a cold sweat.. He gulped visibly in fear, as his mind raced for a convincing explanation for administering the painkillers without confirming.
