Chapter 13 - CLUSTER HEADACHE....

De Xi dropped the topic as she knew she would not see the end.

She hurried towards the room where the recent VIP patient was shifted after asking about it at the nursing station.

She entered the room to find the patient, Mrs. Stevenson was already awake and Clara was checking her vitals.

"Professor" Clara greeted De Xi when she noticed the latter's arrival, gaining the attention of the patient as well.

"Oh! Dr. Evelina, you are my attending physician?" Mrs. Stevenson asked in surprise and shock.

It was never easy to have Evelina as someone's attending physician, only she is the one who decides her patients, as connections and money do not reach her.

"Yes, Mrs. Stevenson, how are you feeling now?" De Xi asked Mrs. Stevenson in a calm yet warm voice.

"Better than before, but I still have a slight headache." Mrs. Stevenson said as she sighed.

"Mrs. Stevenson, when did your headache start?" De Xi asked casually, with a calm look on her face.

"It is been a month already. At first, it was light, and some paracetamol used to work, but recently the pain increased by leaps and bounds." Mrs. Stevenson said as she recollected about her headache.

"By any chance recently, did your alcohol intake increase suddenly or maybe smoking frequency?" De Xi asked while she checked her pulse.

"I stopped smoking long ago but yes my alcohol intake increased, as you know there have been many social gatherings recently." Mrs. Stevenson answered in helplessness.

"CT reports?" De Xi asked curtly as she looked towards Clara.

The latter nodded and swiftly handed De Xi two files, with few printed pages in them.

De Xi received them and opened the first file which contained the CT Scan of Mrs. Stevenson, and the next file contained blood test reports.

De Xi had raised her brows as she looked towards Clara briefly in amusement before nodding in approval.

"Mrs. Stevenson, according to the reports, you have Cluster Headache." De Xi started in a calm and deep voice.

"It is a kind of headache with bouts of frequent attacks, known as cluster periods, which can last from weeks to months, usually followed by remission periods when the headaches stop." De Xi explained the disease in layman's words efficiently.

"During remission, no headaches occur for months and sometimes even years. Fortunately, cluster headache is rare and not life-threatening." De Xi modulated her voice to an even more soothing one when Mrs. Stevenson paled a bit.

"Treatments can make cluster headache attacks shorter and less severe. In addition, medications can reduce the number of cluster headaches you have." De Xi completed with a small smile which ȧssured Mrs. Stevenson who regained her colour a bit.

"You can be discharged when you wish, I will prescribe few medications for you and Oxygen Therapy. We are yet to determine your Cluster Period but it won't be much of a problem and make sure to avoid alcohol throughout your Cluster Period." De Xi instructed quickly but slowly.

"Dr. Evelina, will this continue with me for the rest of my life?" Mrs. Stevenson asked in a slightly desperate tone.

"Don't worry Mrs. Stevenson, if the medications are taken properly and instructions are followed then it would just a matter of time you would be completely free from it. As we diagnosed it quite early, there won't be a problem in curing it." De Xi ȧssured Mrs. Stevenson with a smile.

"Thank you, Dr. Evelina." Mrs. Stevenson thanked sincerely.

"It was my duty. My resident Dr. Clara will instruct you further about the medications and Oxygen Therapy." De Xi said as she pointed towards Clara who was standing by her side. The latter nodded in agreement.

Mrs. Stevenson nodded in understanding and smiled towards Clara, who returned it sincerely and in an ȧssuring manner.

"Then I will take my leave Mrs. Stevenson, take care and rest well." De Xi said as she nodded her head towards Clara.

"Dr. Evelina, I was very rude earlier in the ER could you please help me apologise to the Resident who was present and the nurse accompanying him?" Mrs. Stevenson asked in a regretful tone.

"Sure, no problem, Mrs. Stevenson." De Xi said with an ȧssuring nod and exited the ward.

She went back to her cabin and looked at the time and sighed lightly. She ringed the pager on her table and looked through the charts quickly.

After a minute, all four of her residents entered her cabin, some panting and some calm and collected.

"It is time for the evening rounds." De Xi said calmly as she looked at her residents.

"Yes, Professor." the residents nodded in understanding and quickly regulated their breathing.

De Xi quickly removed her spectacles and placed them inside her white coat pocket. She then walked out of the cabin, followed by her residents following her quick pace.

Many doctors on the way greeted De Xi, and the residents greeted them back.

Though in terms of age De Xi was the youngest among the Professors but in terms of knowledge, experience and seniority she was at the top.

They quickly went through all the patients and made sure all of them were recovering well or are properly following the instructions for the surgery.

By the time they finished the rounds it was already half-past-six, De Xi went back to her cabin after instructing her residents further.

She took her blazer and windbreaker along with her other belongings and exited her cabin.

After locking it behind her, she called for the elevator just as George exited his cabin ready to go home.

"You are getting off work quite early today." De Xi said in a teasing tone as she entered the elevator, followed by George, who scoffed lightly.

"I am done with my work, Liam and James are at your place, right?" George asked as he pressed the buŧŧon to the VIP parking.
