An Ton's Journey

Chapter 27 - Overwhelming battle.

The moment we landed, we were surprised that no ship followed us in to the atmosphere, some of them continued attacking us from the orbit, but they stopped after they could not shoot at us precisely, so some of them flew away, and some of them began trying to descend in a close proximity to the Nexus.

Well, they stopped after first couple of tens of them were shot down by the cannon, as they could not evade easily anymore, so they stopped trying to land.

What the heck? don't they have a way to attack us from orbit?

Well, seems they don't have. What we saw, was the army coming to us on the land. A lot of heavy units. I mean, tanks, artillery and so on.

Do they expect to do anything with these? Didn't they learn what this fortress can do?

Well, it seems they underestimate it, or have no other choice.

The range of weapon was obviously lower then in space, because of atmosphere, but did they expect to have any use for soldiers?

As they were getting closer, artillery stopped before it got into cannon's shooting range, sad news.

The artillery began to aim and just shot at us when they could, no coordination in those shots. Well, they don't really need it when they have only one target.

As it was problematic, to receive neverending shots, it was decided to send immortals backed up by our gun, and then release the Colossuses when it would be too high of a risk of friendly fire.

This cannon is not particularly precise in this mode at the distance, at least not in the atmosphere.

And it is only for this mode. Another mode, is precise and extremely strong.

But it would not be good to test out the firepower of their artillery for at least thirty minutes.

Well, we released groups of immortals while we began shooting at the transports, tanks, and soldiers with our main cannon.

Some of the enemies began shooting at the immortals, but well, they thought the stronger - the better. Heh. Not this time.

As immortals were distracting most of the heavy artillery and tanks, all more and more of them were being warped in to the Nexus and released out onto the battlefield.

Well, they are mainly loaded dead protoss in to the advanced machine. So, it is not really that hard to warp them in continuously.

As it was happening, and we were sure that they were distracted, warp prisms were warped in, just like all the other army that was left and produced.

Well, warp prisms could be warped inside, but carriers could not, so when prisms warped in, they formed shield dome to protect incoming warping carriers. When enemy saw what was going on, they panicked and some of them even began retreating as immortals were pushing them.

Much more began fleeing and repositioning when carriers finished warping and Colossuses rolled out from inside, spread their legs and stood tall.

When it happened, we saw how carriers were being shot from far far away, from the stationary planed defenses. It seems they could provide some difficulty in this battle.

As the enemies were regrouping, and some artillery was backing up, much more enemy forces came.

and it was done.

The zealots, stalkers, adepts, and many many more different types of land units began warping in.

When arbiters began appearing, I was surprised that they only covered allies in invisibility, and not themselves.

When I asked about it, it seems that by doing so, they could cover bigger zones.

As arbiters were a mix of powers of tech and their pilots powers, there were not a lot of arbiters present.

As they appeared, the battle began changing it pace.

Interceptors were mainly attacking stationary defenses and protecting arbiters.

The panic in the enemy army was evident, when different groups of them began forming an attacking spear and defending line formations with no coordination whatsoever.

As they almost formed their attacking formation, they sent them to attack and target the arbiters, as they could not see anything else.

It seems they still have experience in fighting.

The zealots were pretty agile and had personal shields, so it was rare for them to fall under the troopers shots, but tanks were taking them out pretty easily, but not with one shot. What is good.

As zealots were distracting all the enemies, from invisibility, protoss were shooting at the heavy and massive enemies.

While it was effective to be invisible, it did not protect from artillery, so they were taking losses in there too.

But not as much as the enemies.

Zealots were professionals in their job. They easily were ripping apart any enemy.

The most problematic for them were troopers with laser miniguns, grenade launchers and electrical weapons.

Fire weapons were annoying, but they were not effective against the shields.

If you could look from upside down, you would see that protoss army was pushing enemy extremely fast, but also loosing a lot of zealots, well they were not really dying, but it doesn't matter.

As arbiters retreated, you could see how devastating collosus in the real battle.

They were shooting many lasers that were leaving melted enemy unarmored vehicles and burning bodies of anything that these lasers passes.

As these lasers were leaving massive patches of fire, these Colossus were controlling the places the enemies could go to.

As the time for Nexus to get connected was getting closer and closer, there were less and less Colossus.

But it still did not stop them from pushing enemy back and finally getting to their city and beginning to destroy it's defenses.

It was not easy to break them, as it was made of couple of shield generators and metal walls around them, but when the cannon was activated, all it took is one second to break all of the defenses.

While secondary shooting mode could not be used to destroy agile small ships, it could be easily used to destroy big, slow or stationary objects.

When it became active, all the heavy vehicles, all the defences that were visible on the horizon, were being destroyed one after another.

Nothing could hold against it even for three seconds.

Well, lenses could not hold it for long, just two to three seconds at most, before they were destroyed, but this experiment was absolutely worth it. Now we know what we need to get from the trading in the system.

As protoss cleared out the enemies until the horizon and continued attacking them further, it was time to establish a base in here. A permanent one.

The most important thing is to get good defence against the possible air raid, so all across the future base cannons were placed.

The placement was strict, so the base would be comfortably placed.

As the base was being built, I looked at my current minerals and I have only five hundred and seventy six thousand minerals and seven thousand vespene.

It is not low ammount, but I am used to see millions in there.

But it was worth it, the Nexus is now almost invincible.

It literally held against the enemy constant fire for at least ten minutes, and everything it done are some scratches and heated surface of the Nexus. Yes, it was heated a lot, but it had no signs of melting or getting weaker.

At least for now.

So, after looking at my minerals I had a dėsɨrė to get myself upgraded some more, just like in the beginning, but these upgrades were abolished.

" Well, the old ones were abolished as there was a massive change in your structure. You can get upgrades from the modification station for your current Structure " Said the helper, after I accidentally said it and did not think about it...

Well it was good accident!

" Thank you! " I replied and went to the said station

" You are welcome, it is my job to help you " Replied helper, and has gone quiet once again.

Thank you for reading, and enjoy if you can.

Well, this is not a long chapter, but I wrote it when I wanted to write, and sooner then expected.

It is time for a little bit of thinking what our mc can get upgraded, and how much these upgrades will affect him.
