A Twilight Promise

Yuuki was sent to the emergency room, Ryujii couldn't sleep at all. He never anticipated this, she doesn't have much time remaining.

Ryujii sat outside the room, clenching his hands firmly, praying hard to any gods out there, with his eyes closed. As the night goes on, he fell asleep. Along his slumber, a silent cry is audible, it rained the whole night.

Ryujii woke up in the next morning. With a blanket on his body. The operation is still ongoing. As he stood up slowly, the operation light of the room turned off, signalling that the operation is over.

Dr. Hiro came out of the room, followed by the nurses pushing Yuuki out of the room. Dr. Hiro spotted Ryujii standing there. He approached him. "Yuuki-chan's condition worsened. An immediate surgery has been carried out. However I have..." Before Dr. Hiro is able to finish his words, Ryujii became agitated and threw a punch on Dr. Hiro's face.

"I was going to tell you a good news, but you don't want to listen to me. What a troublesome kid you are..." Dr. Hiro smiled. Ryujii is confused. He hurt himself in his confusion. "There's good news you say? Is it about Yuuki's cure?" Ryujii becomes excited.

Dr. Hiro nodded, he told him that there is indeed a cure, and coincidentally, she lived in a happy environment enough to strengthen her immunity towards the disease. Thus she require a surgery from a skilled doctor who researched the similar disease with greater skills.

Dr. Hiro smiled happily, like he never did before, that smile resembles someone who is dear to Ryujii, but he couldn't figure it out. He is happy about it for a while, he don't care about anything else. As he took another step back to his room, he passed out.

He woke up, basking in orange lights. It's the sunset. "How am I here?" He thought. He sits up and looked around. A figure of a girl appeared in a distantce. He recognised her in an instant, it's Yuuki. He quickly runs towards her. No matter how he run, the distance remained the same, not more as her figure started becoming smaller.

He tripped, and then cried. He cried out Yuuki's name over and over again in anguish screams until he blacked out. Ryujii wakes up once again on his bed. It was a dream. Kaori noticed that he is awake, the other club members are also here, waiting for him to wake up, there are paper everywhere, they seemed to be folding paper cranes together.

"Are you awake, Ryujii-kun?" Kaori asked. Ryujii nodded. It seems like he fainted due to anemia, the others gathered around him, holding paper cranes in their hands, as they are trying to bless them through the paper cranes. Miku holds her paper crane and runs to the side of the bed, which also happens to be next to the window.

The wind blew through the window, the paper crane was blown off. Mysteriously, the paper crane glided with the wind, disappeared as a small dot in the distance. Perhaps the prayers are heading to the gods for them to answer.

Ryujii smiled. "Thank you everyone... I understood what am I supposed to do now." Ryujii said, while patting Miku and Fuyuko's head. He slowly gets off his bed and then heads to Yuuki's room in his pace.

Step by step, he felt anxious, but his newly found resolve made him to move forward. Just several steps more, he will make it. He opened the door, to see Dr. Hiro standing next to Yuuki's bed, saying something he never expected. "You'll be fine, my dear sister." Is what Dr. Hiro said. Dr. Hiro is her brother? He never revealed his family name as well, that actually make sense. That answers the question why he would do anything to save her.

He fall on the floor, alerting Dr. Hiro. "So you were siblings?" Ryujii asked. "It wasn't a big deal letting you know, but I still want to save my own sister." Dr. Hiro said. "It seems like you are here for some business. I'll leave her to you." Dr. Hiro left the room.

The room is quiet. It's just both Ryujii and Yuuki in it. The usual noisy Yuuki is asleep, Ryujii slowly approached her, with his tears slowly filling up his eyes, he held her hand. Both of them have their bracelets on their wrists.

Ryujii smiled, with tears flowing out from his eyes. He couldn't think of anything to say, he held her hand tight. Kaori opened the door abruptly and came in. She read the atmosphere and slowly closes the door.

He whispered something to Yuuki's ears and then leaves the room after a twilight. Some nurses passed by, he heard their entire conversation. "Yuuki is going overseas for her treatment, there is a cure!" A nurse said excitedly. "Isn't there a risk if it went wrong?" Another nurse said. "Aww don't say the harsh things!" The first nurse responded.

Ryujii is too fatigued to respond anything, he remembers what he whispered into Yuuki's ears, and then returns to his room. He called his mother to bring his textbooks and curricular materials. "I'm going to be the good boy you wanted me to be from now on." Is what Ryujii said to his mother in a low voice.

Ryujii intends to distract himself by studying. There is no bad in studying, his resolve is indeed unshakable, he ignores everyone, and sometimes even skipping meals. At least he listens to the doctor, taking his medicines.

There is an examination going on soon, he intends to go for the exam. He asked his mother to inform the school about his participation for the exam.

Yuuki is leaving soon. She woke up, and saw her own condition. She was very afraid of death, but she heard a gentle whisper while she was having nightmares. Those words are the ones that gave her courage.

"The malicious gods are testing us. Despite the fate we are bound together, we'll show them, we can still live our life to the fullest before departing from this world. Till death do us apart..." Is what Ryujii said.

"But... Isn't that a confession?! Ahhhhhhh!" Yuuki's face is as red as a tomato, she buried her face in her pillows. "Stupid Ryujii!" She screamed in her head. A serious studying Ryujii sneezed.
