Under Her Cursed Scythe

32 5 Days Before Halloween PART I

"Look into them? I don't want to come close to this creature without gearing up. Who knows what she will do." The dark blue cloaked person waved her hands. "Why not simply dispel that spell you placed on it to unlock its powers and force it to use its dark magic again? Like burn it with fire or suffocate it with water." she proposed, coating each word with lazy viciousness. "This is the easiest way for this Witch to reveal the true colour of her eyes and the fastest way for you to get over the fact that this is not a human!"

"But if she's a human, the true colours of her eyes will never appear onto the surface and you will be killing her! Haven't you thought of that?"

"Yes, but you said it, 'if' she's a human and it's not because Agent 419 has said it, its aura-"

"Please! " the boy in the white cloak begged. "Please listen to me. The aura doesn't tell the whole story. You have to look deeper and closer in order to discover the truth! Don't use your normal vision for the moment, borrow the vision of your Familiars and look through them!"

Right after he hummed the same tongue that he had muttered when he first encountered Alivia, a pair of gold orange pupils glistened under his goggles, just like the colour of the eyes of his rabbit friend who was now hiding behind his leg and staring up at Alivia with its feet tapping nervously.

"They will show you the different colours of her eyes! The blue of melancholy, the red of anger, the grey of fear …" There was a short period before he proceeded, "The blackness of hatred and jealousy as the core but also, at the very end, the pink of love, and the green of merriment and…oh! Look at this! It's com-"

Alivia promptly averted her eyes, realizing that his gaze alone could really strip her bare if she allowed him to peer into them any longer.

"I can ensure you," the boy in the white cloak underlined, turning to the others. "That they are filled with colours of her soul, emotions...sensibilities and not a bit of blankness or singularity of colour in it. These are something neither contacts nor magic can fake or cover! "

"Biu, biu, biu, biu…" Sounds of a spaceship shooting game came to everyone's ears.

Turning to the person behind him, the boy in the white cloak asked, accusingly, "What do you think you're doing?"

Putting away his phone, the person responded, lazily, "You are done with your grant speech?"

Like the person in the dark blue cloak, only his tiny pink coloured upturned eyes was shown. The rest of his face was covered by a suji kabuto and menpo . He also wore a dragon-scale armour under his emerald-coloured cloak.

"Can I say something?" The person in the emerald-coloured cloak raised his hand.

"Go on."

He inhaled a deep breath before blurting, "This is not a science project, man. No one wants to examine the Witch's eyes and take notes. Look around you!" He jerked his thumbs towards his sides to bring attention to the fact that the others were appearing bored and apathetic. "This is really eating up a lot of our time... You do remember that the hours for mid-night is still the same for us as long as we are in this world and are not yet allowed to cross into the other, right? "

He crossed his arms. "See, I don't mind doing the whole Blesser thing and I love it but I just want to end this hunt as quickly as possible so I can go home and do whatever normal human beings do. That's all I ask for!"

"But-"

He hung his head in exhaustion. "We have been chasing after this Reaper's ring for three nights straight, man! We are all very tired even for someone as energized as me! And this whole matter can't be prolonged any longer!"

Once said, the others bobbed their heads in assent. But instead of settling with those words, the boy in the white cloak wiggled his head from side to side with more exertion.

"It only takes you at most five minutes to realise that I might be right about the presence of her soul! " he said, eagerly. "I know everyone's time is precious. Who isn't here? We all have our human lives to live through during the day. But this is a soul that we are talking about and we cannot treat it recklessly because we want to end this so-called 'task' as soon as possible!"

"No, for goodness sake…we-"

"I'm telling you this girl is being wrongly accused as a Witch!" the boy in the white cloak stressed, almost roaring. "And I can't let you eliminate her unless she is proven to be one!" He took a second to catch his breath. "Besides, I don't want to waste any of your time. I'm just asking you… " His eyes shifted towards Victoria as he pleaded, "All of you, to allow me to bring her back to the Council for their judgment, at least for Professor Helios's judgment. He has plenty of time. He can figure out whether she is a Witch or not."

He paused a bit to take a breath and then he continued, "She..." He gestured his hand towards Alivia. "Might just be another normal teenager who by chance, got her hands on the Reaper's ring. We have encountered plenty of cases like this before especially since the Greek God's messenger accidentally dropped one of his packages, right? Like that girl, Judy, who recently joined us. She also accidentally got her hands on that Cat Eye but the Council didn't send her to death."

At once, the dark blue cloaked person waggled her head in disapproval. "This one is different, Agent 616. It's the Reaper's ring we are talking about, not one of those minor magical items from that missing package. And even if her soul exists within her, her actions merely show humanity to me. Haven't you forgot? 'She' has already used that ring..." she reminded in a solemn tone. "And not only once but more than ten times, presumably more than that but ten! Ten innocent people's souls were reaped. They were killed by this-'girl'! "

Those words prodded Alivia's heart.

"Maybe she didn't know about the consequences of using that ring." the boy in the white cloak rebutted. "Maybe she thought-"

"Why on earth are you defending this Witch...this murderer anyway? Does it occur to you that you might lead to the extinction of all beings because you insisted on your absurd theories? " butted the dark-blue cloaked person, shaking her head with confusion as she gestured at Alivia. "Why is it so hard for you to believe that this is not a human, Agent 616? Did this Witch do something to you? Like a week ago when you were controlled to attack us by that level 5 Warlock."

"Or like last month when another level 7 Witch casted a dancing spell on him to hinder us from concentrating on our fight." the girl in the flowery cloak evoked.

"Well, he's the first one who came face-to-face with this Witch." suggested the emerald cloaked person. "So it's possible he's under a spell, again."

"No, I'm not under a spell! I just want-"
