A Sudden Encounter

After enjoying our time together in the restaurant, we left and Theodore told me he still had somewhere to go.

“I reserved something to bring home.”

“A souvenir?”

“Something you’ll like.”

What is it? I’m so curious!!

“Can’t I ask what’s in it?”

“You’d know, anyway.”

“Really? I’m looking forward to it!”

Hehe, this is fun!

It had been a long time, but now I was reaffirmed of one fact: it was always fun to be with Theodore. It was nice to just walk around the city like this, chatting and taking it easy.

“You know, when I came to Natcheil a month ago, all the sweets were sold out.”

“When you say a month ago, you mean when Count Hartless was…”

“Yes! So you know, that day I was super unlucky… Haaaa, I felt like crying at that time. But today, I’m super lucky! Theodore is here, and we had so much fun in the restaurant, I ate sweets; I’m so happy!”

“…I see.” Theodore smiled with satisfaction.

Eventually, Theodore led us to a town by the harbour, a little outside the downtown area. This was a place where the main and branch offices of the merchants were crowded together, and there were not many places to eat…

Mmm, another hidden gem, eh?

“How do you know all these places, Theodore?”

“Well, you see. I’m often invited to these places. I refuse them every time, but I remember the restaurants they invited me to… I guess this is the only good thing about having a good face.” Theodore let out a tired sigh.

Right… Well, Theodore had a good face, so a lot of people like him… Of course, they all probably liked Theodore just because of how he looked like… But I was not amused a bit by this.

Not that I knew why I had this feeling…

Theodore stroked my head as if he had noticed that I had a rather strange look on my face.

“Come on, don’t look like that. Let’s go… And you gotta know, I only go to the shops with you.”

“J-just me?”

“Yeah, I only go with Urschel.”

When Theodore assured me like that with a smile on his face, it made me blush a little! I felt like I was the only one who had Theodore, and that made me happy and surprised.

Ugh, Theodore had kept me on my toes all day.

“We’re here.”

We arrived at a small red-brick walled sweets shop on the ground floor of a two-storey building housing a merchant’s association.

“I didn’t know there were sweets in this place!”

“That’s good to know.”

When I entered, I found it to be a very stylish place. It looked like it had a café as well, with matching red-brick walls to the exterior, a modern chandelier, high-quality chairs and desks made from polished dark brown wood, and an interior decorated with ornamental plants… Just the way I would like it.

While I was admiring the interior, Theodore went to the kitchen at the back of the restaurant to pick up a box of what he had ordered from an employee. The box was as big as a Christmas present box.1

Oh, I can’t wait to open the package…! I wonder what’s inside…!

Suddenly, at that moment, a customer walked into the shop. Along with the following words, “Let me buy all the sweets in this shop.”

There was a sudden buzz in the shopfront. Theodore, who was paying the bill at the cashier, didn’t seem interested in the affair, but I was a bit curious and glanced over.

Then an employee came out from the back of the kitchen, looking flustered…

He was trying to get the customer—a boy about our age—to leave as early as he could by saying, “Only five cakes today! That’s all we’ve got!”

The boy raised an eyebrow at the shopkeeper. “Just five cakes? But there are more cakes in the showcase rack. Come on, I have the money, let me buy them all.”

“This is for someone else! I didn’t make it just for you! Even if you have the money, I can’t give them to you.”

“No way! I can even pay you 20% or even 30% more!”

“No, you can’t. This month, even if our shop’s sales have increased because of you, the reputation of the shop has suffered. A sweet shop without constant merchandise is not a sweet shop at all!”

There seemed to be a dispute. Indeed, if they bought up everything in one go, it might be good for sales, but it wouldn’t improve the reputation of the shop, and fewer people would come to buy it, so there would be no more customers…

Furthermore, a month of hoarding like that would certainly trouble the shop—their reputation would be ruined.

Nevertheless… Hoarding… Since a month ago… No merchandise left… Huh? This kid, no way…

At that moment, the boy who was at the centre of the dispute let out a sigh and compromised, “…I understand. Please give me five cakes…”

At those words, the shopkeeper breathed a sigh of relief. “Okay. Five, right?”

""

After such an exchange, the boy came towards us. His hair was fluffy, the colour of hazelnut and his eyes were brown; he had the overall shade of milk tea and looked very lovely.

The boy didn’t even look at me, he went straight for the cashier. Just then, Theodore, who had just finished paying, was about to walk towards me…

For a split second. Both of them made eye contact.

As soon as they did, the boy… was blushing. He couldn’t have been more flushed, his eyes lit up and his mouth gaped open as if he was too surprised.

Then he impulsively grabbed Theodore’s hand—the one not holding the box—and said, “Oh, uh, um, um..! Oh, yes, my name is David Kryner, and I, er-err… umm… *inhale* *exhale* I LIKE YOU!!!!”

For the first time in my life… I witnessed the moment when people fall in love at first sight.

And, more importantly, the person he fell in love with at first sight was… Theodore.

For that fact, I… I was indeed… shocked and helpless beyond measure.

In the background, I thought I heard Delusion-kun telling me that those two would be together eventually which I found very unpleasant.

chocolala: The appearance of a rival?? Anyway, starting here, the author writes shorter chapters, so I can release 2 chapters at once, yay (But, a note about LN version, they actually combine this chapter with the prev chapter and name it ‘Going Out with Theodore!’. So from here on, the numbering will be different than LN)
