The Zombie Queen's Second Chance

3 days later, exactly at 8:50 in the morning, Chu Lixue could be seen slowly going inside the City Hall. The clerk that was responsible for her registration a few days ago saw her, and asked, "Your work begins today, right? Motivated for your new job?"

"Yep, couldn't be any more...", she answered, ending the conversation. And truthfully, Chu Lixue truly wished that the work could have begun a few days sooner. During the last couple of days, she managed to use the rest of her food stamps, which resulted in her becoming completely poor. But at the very least, she did manage to get some clothes and a new backpack for it, so she's pretty satisfied with that.

Going inside a room, that the clerk showed her in, she could see 2 other people standing inside. According to what she was told, they were waiting for another person, which showed up 5 minutes after her, and looking excited, she began saying, "Nice to meet you! It seems like we will spend some time together, so why don't we introduce ourselves? My name is Lin Qiao, I'm 18 years old and before the Apocalypse I was a student at A City's University."

"Joe Cheng", barked out a middle-aged man. He was dark skinned, with big, brown eyes, and a pretty sharp chin. Chu Lixue thought that he kind of looked like a mixed-race person.

Thinking a bit about what to say, Chu Lixue slowly introduced herself, "My name is Chu Lixue, I'm soon going to be 19, I hope we can work well together."

The last person to introduce himself surprisingly was someone that Chu Lixue knew. Previously, he was sitting with his head down, so she couldn't tell who he was, but after hearing his introduction, she managed to remember.

"My name is Zhao Yun, I used to be a soldier in A City's military brigade. I'm 26 years old, let's not get in each other's way."

This time, he was dressed in new clothes and looked much cleaner, which made him look more like his age. Last time when Chu Lixue saw him, she couldn't help but thing he was a middle-aged man. Today however, if she didn't hear his introduction, she would think that he was barely any older than her.

After waiting for another 10 minutes, a soldier made his way into the room and asked everyone to follow him. He looked like he wanted to say something to Zhao Yun, but at the end reluctantly decided to just be silent.

Chu Lixue and the rest of Earth ability users were brought to a military truck, which was making a convoy together with 2 different military SUVs. The soldiers were coming with them, as it was their responsibility to protect ability users during their work time from zombies. At this point in time, having an ability was still pretty exclusive. Each and every one of them was a valuable asset to the base, and they could bare losing them.

Afterward, the trucks slowly made their way out of the military district. The Army begun to clean up the residential side of A City a week ago, and even though they haven't finished yet, they needed to build a defensive line around it if they wanted to reclaim it.

"Alright, we're here. Initially, the plan was to have you work 10 hours daily, but we will adjust that time depending on how long you can keep on using your abilities. For every 2 hours of work, each of you will receive a Tier 1 Earth Nucleus, together with some food stamps. How much you make out of it, that's for you to decide. Now, let's get to work!", said one of the soldiers, who during the time the trucks were making their way here, introduced himself as Hao Xun. Looking at how the other soldiers treated him, it also looked as if he was in the position of a leader inside his unit.

Making their way out of the military convoy, the 4 of them began their work. Today was their first day, so the spot they've been designated to work at was pretty safe, with at most single zombies going around.

Each person was given a section to build, with each wall being supposed to be about 8 meters tall and 5 meters wide. Also, everyone needed to use their ability to condense the dirt into a solid structure, so the wall wouldn't' fall in the near future.

After an hour of work, it seemed like Chu Lixue was doing the biggest progress. Surprisingly, right after her came the university student, Lin Qiao. Zhao Yun was a little behind her, with the middle-aged man having made the least amount of work for now.

After another hour, everyone was told to take a short break, and at the same time, they were given their first Tier 1 Earth Nucleus. Doing as instructed by the soldiers, Chu Lixue together with the other 3 people began to concentrate and slowly consume the energy within their nucleuses. The process itself went pretty smoothly, and after 10 minutes, the last person finished absorbing their nucleus.

Feeling their new energy going through their bodies, the group slowly made their way back to their sections, working on the wall with a new, energized feeling. 8 hours later, when the sun was beginning to cover itself, the group totally drenched out of any leftover stamina, made their way back to their home's inside the base.
