The Zombie Queen's Second Chance

Chu Lixue slowly made her way around her flat, making plans about putting the space she owned into proper management. Aside from her bedroom, she could still develop her other 2 rooms into something more functional.

Chu Lixue looked at her rooms layout and slowly said, "Alright, let's put up proper solar energy panels on the windows. At least one of the rooms could be changed into a cultivation room, in which I could grow some vegetables. The second room could perhaps be used as a nursery and breading room if I manage to find some small animals to rear. If not, I can simply use both rooms to grow my plants. I'd also need a water purification system, probably installed either in kitchen or the bathroom. That just leaves me with a small storage room, which I might just use for storing things. Let's not overcomplicate things..."

A few moments later, after Chu Lixue thought everything through, she finally remembered the most important point. Money.

While she still had some food stamps, but they weren't near enough. Not even thinking about renovating her whole apartment, with her remaining food stamps Chu Lixue couldn't even afford to renovate her bedroom. And that only needed a new bed and a few better cabinets.

'Obviously, I can't just go around and advertise myself as a person that is being ignored by zombies...', she thought bitterly.

After that, her first idea was to simply grow some crops and sell them or directly exchange them for the things she needs. That idea quickly made its way into the trash. Let's not talk about the amount of time it would take, but she couldn't even afford to buy seeds needed to plant any food. It's not like anybody is going to pay her for growing grass, right?

Leaving that idea aside, after thinking a little more, Chu Lixue remembered that during the time she was waiting for her registration in the base to be completed, she saw, that the new City Hall also had a table with tasks issued to the public. Perhaps she could find a job there.

Making sure that she properly closed her apartments door, Chu Lixue slowly made her way into the City Hall. Which, by the way, looked pretty crowded. After going inside, she could see that most people came to register themselves. Only a few individuals were there to look at the Task Table.

Chu Lixue made her way to the Task Table, and after looking at it she muttered to herself, "This one's okay, but the pay is pretty low. That one is also fine, oh wait... Alright, I'll take this."

While the City Hall issued quite a big amount of tasks, she couldn't handle most of them, as they needed psychical strength. There were also some specialists needed, but these tasks were even more impossible for her. Finally, after looking at it for some time she managed to find something with a pretty good pay, and what was even better, was the fact that it included making use of her ability.

The job she picked was to build and reinforce walls. Sound pretty boring, right? But at the very least Chu Lixue aside from getting money, could also use that time to learn how to use her ability better. As long as she constantly used her Earth ability, Chu Lixue was sure, that after some time she would manage to upgrade her ability to another level.

Chu Lixue directly went to the job registration desk next to the Task Table and said, "Excuse me, I'd like to register for the job of building walls from dirt."

"Alright miss, please step outside with me. I'll need to check if you have corresponding abilities to the ones named in the job description, otherwise you would just end up as a liability.", answered the clerk.

After going outside, Chu Lixue was asked to make a simple, small wall from the dirt lying around. Successfully passing the test, she was then asked to come back inside the City Hall. Before being hired for her new job, the clerk first needed to register her as a new ability holder.

While during the first registration she was just asked for some basic information and turned away, this time however, they asked her about her abilities, and later after completing the process proceeded to give her an identification document, similar to the ones used before apocalypse, just with her Earth ability also printed on it. Chu Lixue temporarily choose to hide her other element, since it could bring her potential trouble if she was to reveal everything about herself. And even if someone learned the truth later, she could simply claim that she has awakened her other ability after the registration process was done.

According to the clerk, the new ID's were pretty useful for ability users. Anybody having one, would be subjected to preferential treatment. Not only could they take better tasks in the future, but they could also gain small discounts if they wanted to buy some resources from the base.

Before leaving the City Hall, she was informed that her new job will begin 3 days later. All she needed to do was to show herself 9 o'clock in the morning, inside the City Hall. Together with other people taking on this task, she would be picked up by an army regiment to move to the place where they would need to build the new walls.
