The Zombie Queen's Second Chance

A few days slowly passed.

Since Chu Lixue didn't have to go to work recently, the relationship between her, her daughter and Mu Ruqin was slowly getting better. Chu Lixue noticed, that since Mu Ruqin was brought back her daughter seemed a little more cheerful. Sometimes, she would even catch the two of them giggling with each other.

Chu Lixue carried the food from the kitchen after she finished cooking the soup and side dishes. Once she was in their apartment's hallway, she vaguely heard sounds in the corridor. Her heart raced, as she picked her bat and vigilantly stood in front of her doors, looking who that was.

Who would be visiting this floor? Even through Chu Lixue knew that one of the apartments aside from her was being used, because she was always leaving early and coming late, she never saw who was actually her neighbor.

The screen clearly showed the situation in the corridor, several young people came to the 18th floor. The few people seemed like college students, a line of three people, each carrying a backpack and some plastic bags in their hands.

Climbing the stairs was tiring but the young excited faces had reached their destination.

"I've heard that from the six apartments on this floor, two are already used by someone. Let's be careful..." Said a clever young woman, looking around the hallway.

"We are 3 people in total. Which apartment should we take?" A young man hurriedly asked.

"The military gave me keys to 1803, it's supposed to have 3 rooms. We'll each get one room, we won't have any spare rooms but at least it's not crowded."

"Okay, it's much better then in our university. Our school dormitory was how large? Four people in one room!"

"A college dorm counts for nothing! Our senior high school dormitory had eight people a room, that's a squeeze. At night the house was filled with the stench of feet.", said another man, looking a little chubbier than the others.

"You guys are disgusting..." The woman said, looking at them.

"Chubby, living on the 18th floor you can definitely help you lose inches off your belly! It seems that only Apocalypse can help you get fit."

"I think I've already lost a couple of pounds in the last two months."

"Sister Ren, who do you think lives in the other 2 apartments?" Asked the chubby man, eyes bright with curiosity.

"And how would I know?", answered the woman, a little irritated.

"Chubby, I know you alright, let me tell you straight – even if there were some beauties inside, they won't like you. Forget it!", said the man, laughter evident in his eyes.

While he didn't know who was living inside the other apartments, at the very least he was aware that most likely they were also ability users. It would be better to quickly set his friend straight, otherwise who knows what kind of trouble they would end up in... Sure enough, the chubby man dejectively followed his group inside 1803.

Chu Lixue was relieved to see the last person enter their room. Three young people were much better than some over the top old man. She turned around, made sure her door was closed and went back to the kitchen to get the food.

"There are now three people living in 1803, from what I've heard they should be university students."

Mu Ruqin swallowed some of the vegetable soup and did not doubt that she would gain some weight from the food fed to him at bedrest. "Students? So, no one took the apartment next doors yet?"

"I think it should be still empty. I'm out a lot, but I didn't notice anybody moving in. Our new neighbors also didn't seem to think anybody lives there."

Few people could get an apartment here after all, and even if someone did, usually they wouldn't take the last floor. Chu Lixue had no idea why three college students would choose to live here and on such a high floor. Perhaps they didn't want to work for the military or government, so they were unlucky enough to get moved inside the 18th floor.

"Tomorrow, if there's an opportunity, we could get to know each other with the neighbors. If they have useful abilities maybe we could invite them to join the group. Even if they didn't, it's still much safer to have a few decent friends in the Apocalypse."

Chu Lixue turned in surprise to Mu Ruqin, not expecting her to think about that.

"How do you know we need more people for our group?"

"Oh please, I may not be the smartest person but it's not so hard to guess that you're on your own. I've been with you for a few days and didn't see anybody coming for you... Which group would just ignore its members when they don't come around?", said Mu Ruqin, slightly giggling.

"Alright, you're right, you can stop already..."

True, they may not be familiar with each other but it's still better than being completely alone during a crisis. Mu Ruqin was still injured, even if her ability was powerful, she could not go out right now.

Chu Lixue would not ask others to place their lives in danger for her without any reason, as long as both sides would respect each other and have a peaceful cooperation, she thought shady characters would skip joining their group.
