Chapter 42: Men Do Love to Pretend

He was wearing a smart suit with his legs crossed. He seemed like a prestigious man who enjoyed the greatest privilege in the world.

Tang Li stared at the man in the photo. He did not seem like any other good-looking young man. But, he was a handsome gentleman just like a pot of aged wine. No one could see through him by taking only one glance at him and you need to taste its flavor slowly. But, you might fall into his trap if you were not being careful.

Tang Li had a sudden thought. He was pretending.

It seemed that every powerful and influential man behaved like that.

She looked out of the car window and found that the car had stopped outside a beauty salon.

Jiang Yuan said to Tang Li, “The minister has asked you to dye your hair back to its original color before you go to meet him.”

Tang Li pushed open the car door and got out of the car.

It was 10.25 A.M. when Jiang Yuan sent Tang Li to a leisure club.

There were the sounds of bowling pins tumbling in the bowling club.

Tang Li saw Li Yuan’er as soon as she stepped into the club.

Li Yuan’er was wearing a white sportswear skirt. She seemed cute and naïve. She was now smiling happily. On the other hand, Ou Yangqian was chatting happily with a beautiful lady around her fifties next to her.

Tang Li clenched her fists when she saw who the beautiful lady was.

“The minister is still waiting for you.” Assistant Jiang reminded her.

Tang Li was shocked and she did not move at all.

She saw Li Wenyan who was now standing in front of the bowling alley and the middle-aged man beside him. The middle-aged man was wearing a light blue Polo shirt and a pair of sweatpants. His hands were rested behind him and his face was filled with a deep satisfying smile.

She still did not manage to avoid what happened in her former life.

Moreover, it was nearly two years ahead of time.

It was Li Yuan’er who saw her first. “It’s Ah Li! She is here!”

Li Yuan’er was looking at her excitedly. It was different from how she treated her before. She had always given Tang Li a cold shoulder.

As she was speaking happily, she rushed toward Tang Li and greeted her. She held Tang Li’s hand in a friendly way. She even called over to her father. “Dad, Uncle Xia, Ah Li is here! Stop playing now.”

Tang Li smiled when she saw the bright smile on Li Yuan’er’s face.

“Is that Ah Li?” Madam Xia got up from her seat.

Madam Xia was unhappy about it when Old Xiao said that he wanted to become in-laws with the Li family as she knew that the girl was the Li family’s illegitimate daughter. But, she was happier now when she saw Tang Li.

In fact, her son adored that kind of quiet and beautiful girl.

Since Li Wenyan was the one who suggested it first, for sure he would not treat his daughter unfairly in the future.

Madam Xia held Tang Li’s little hand and took a closer look at her. She was quite satisfied with what she saw until she noticed the wound on Tang Li’s forehead. “What’s wrong with your face?”

Before Tang Li could say anything, Ou Yangqian explained with a smile. “The kids were fooling around and they fell down the stairs. One of them hurt her head while the other hurt her hand. Serve them right. A lesson to them to see if they dare to do that again.”

“She’s an active girl. I like that.”

“You cannot make her your daughter even if you like her!” The man laughed.

Madam Xia stared at her husband playfully. “Then, surely I could make her my daughter-in-law.”

What they said sounded like jokes but actually they had made a deal among themselves.

Both Li Wenyan and Attorney General Xia took their seats. They seemed relaxed now that they had made their decision. Li Wenyan took the towel from his wife and wiped his hands. Then, he smiled and said, “It’s Tang Li’s blessing given that Madam Xia adores her.
