One Piece: The Eldest Brother

Chapter 6 - 6: Training in the forest.

Edam P.O.V

The days were going by, then weeks, then months, with Luffy continuing to pester Ace every single days by chasing him throughout the forest and mountain.

Luffy really did had a great will to chase even when the sun was burning hot or when the rain was blowing him away like a piece of paper.

Every time he chase he would meet crocodiles, piranias, gigantic serpent, or giant lion daily, but he never gave up.

As for me, I followed the first two weeks, but seeing him making out alive every single time, I just thought that continuing to watch was not really necessary anymore, so I stopped.

And Luffy didn't disappoint me at all, he was coming back every time at home with fewer and fewer injuries as the days were going by.

He was slowly but surely becoming stronger even though he never managed to caught Ace even once, anyway it still made me happy to know that.

I could now focus on training myself in the forest without worrying for him.

End of P.O.V

Deep in the forest, surrounded by myriads of trees and plants and herbs alike, a kid could be perceived playing with a rabbit, a black horned rabbit to be exact.

However if one were to watch closely you could see that the black rabbit was doing everything it could to impale the kid.

The kid was about ten years old wearing plain clothes, having pure black hair and a pair of deep but clear black eyes that seemed to reflect everything. He also had the strange characteristic of having a brown colored tail swinging behind his back.

Obviously this kid was Edam. He was training his dodging reactions against a black horned rabbit who was known for it's incredible fast speed which combined with his horn could tear down a tree completely.

However, the beast was naturally apprehensive of human beings despite it's strenght, so they were rarely seen around.

But, Edam having lived all his life with a grandpa who threw him in the jungle and took him to beat bandits and other crooks, he had gain many methods to lure the rabbit out of his lair.

Unlike Luffy, he didn't contented himself with what he found but what he hunted. An Uncle of his always used to tell him that Hunting was an art, not just killing and eating a beast or so. It require patience and discipline. Though now it wasn't just hunting but training.

Anyway, he was currently dodging the fast and murderous attacks of the little rabbit rather easily as time passed. Being surrounded by many small trees, the rabbit was jumping on the trees to gain speed and then attacking, leap on a tree and then attacking repeating this cycles for a rather long time.

The rabbit was really intelligent and started to feign some moves after some times.

This did had some effects on Edam as he didn't managed to perfectly avoid the rabbit resulting in a small scratch on his shoulder tearing a piece of clothes by the way.

'Ouch...It hurt even more than a bullet.' He thought taking a quick glance at the scratch.

However, this didn't help long as Edam was really a genius at hand to hand combat certified by Garp himself and was rapidly adapting himself to the rabbit's speed.

When he was going to end the training as it was meaningless to continue, a second rabbit came out of seemingly nowhere to join in the frame and even started to attacks him.

'Hmm?!' 'another one ?' he thought in surprise.

But then he thought again 'Perfect, it was time I test it anyway.' a little grin on his face.

Wihle he was dodging, Edam slowly did what was the least recommended to do in a battle, and that was...

Other people would think that he was closing his eyes in fear, meanwhile some other rare ones would tell you without hesitation that this kid didn't have a single ounce of fear on his face but rather... an unshakeable confidence in himself.

Having closed his eyes, all of his senses were pushed to the maximun of their capacities, every fibers of his entire being were set on fire due to the excitement of this dangerous moment.

But even though he was confident in his prowess he didn't dare to relax a single second.

One mistake could cost him his life, that he was aware, but his grandpa told him and he found out personally that he was getting stronger everytime he was closed to death or in difficulty, so avoiding dangers was not an option to get stronger.

The world seemed to slow down as Edam closed his eyes trying to feel the presence of the two rabbits, the air, the nature and every single things and beings in the vicinity but even though he tried it hard, in the end he didn't managed to senses anything at all.

And yet...

Something did give him a warning and a sort of image of what was going to happen to him appear in his head.

With this prediction, he managed to dodge the two rabbit's attacks who were aiming at his head, he dodge the first by moving his head gently to the right and the second to the left.

With his eyes still closed he smiled when he succeded and then said with a grin " Heh, too slow, you two."

Edam finally understood that it was his unique monkey tail who was giving him his warning.

Every time something dangerous was going to happen to him without him knowing, it would give him a warning.

In short, it wasn't his senses, it was his instinct who gave him the warning... maybe... or at least something like that...

His tail's fur would stand on their own everytime one of the rabbit was going to jump and as they were two his fur were standing all the time.

Now that he thought about it, he was never surprised when an hostile beast was trying to kill him in the past as he would always woke up before the attack was launched.

From far away, it was as if a blind man was dancing around in this deep forest along with a black and a white rabbit...

After familiarizing himself for a while with this new ability he discovered, Edam decided to stopped what he called a "training for him but a battle to the death" for the rabbits.

He dodged to the right and then kicked one by side with his left leg making it fly to a tree nearby while he caught the other one by the horn with his right hand.

"I don't really want to kill you two as you're both too smalls to fill my stomach, so I'll just let you go." he said while smiling.

He knew that he was talking to a rabbit and that they couldn't possibly answer him but sometimes animals proves to be smarter than some humans being so.... And also Edam was really in a good mood today with this new discovery so he decided to let them go.

He threw the rabbit he held in his hand to the other rabbit while turning around and stopping showing him his back, fully open for any attacks.

The rabbits who were hesitating between going on another round or fleeing finally chose the latter as they were smart to know that they couldn't do anything against him.

"Good."

Hearing them getting away, Edam started to walked away leisurely in the forest while humming something.
