Erin looked at the closed door. Her right hand was on her chest, feeling the accelerated rhythm of her heart. She sighed and fell on her bed, totally exhausted from her journey. The truth was that she was controlling her heartbeat all the time while Richard was here. That was something she learned in her recent training.

She put a hand on her cheek, feeling how hot it was. If she looked at a mirror now, her face would look beet red. She wasn't angry with Richard anymore, but she wasn't ready to forgive him either. What's more, she felt scared of her feelings for him. Erin wasn't ready to fall in love. Not when this was her first time and the one she had to fall in love with was a guy, too.

It was a bit funny about how her life played such a joke. She mustered some strength and stood up, walking to a mirror. She could see the young girl in front of her, beautiful as always. There weren't any changes from when she came to this world and her current self. It was like time had stopped for her.

'Wait.'

Erin narrowed her eyes, looking more closely. There were changes. She was a bit taller now, maybe about five centimeters or so? And her chest was bigger, too? She could see her face was a bit more mature now. Her mouth opened wide. Why didn't she realize that until now? And when did she change like that? She pinched herself, and sure enough, there was a pain.

'Is it because of the last awakening?' She wondered, totally perplexed with that. Close to a year passed already since she had come to this world, and the last time she checked herself, there hadn't been any changes.

'Now that I think about it, I should be seventeen already.' Erin sighed. She wasn't sure when exactly was her birthday, since here it was hard to keep track of the date. What's more, when she came to this wold, the season was different. That confused her and she wasn't sure when exactly should her birthday be.

*Knock knock knock*

"Come in." Erin snapped from her daze. She looked at the door as Anna entered, bringing food.

"I brought you something to eat, master. You should be hungry after the long journey." Anna smiled at her, bringing the tray next to the bed.

"Thank you." Erin returned a weak smile. Ever since she returned to the castle, Anna tried to stick to her. She barely managed to make an excuse that she wanted some time alone and to take a bath, but Anna almost entered the bath with her. It was hard enough to send her away even once. Erin sighed, looking at the half-cooked meat on the tray.

All the meat was already sliced in small pieces. She took one and brought it to her mouth. As always, the taste was good. She looked up to Anna, only to see her smiling. Erin's gaze shifted back to the meal as she concentrated on it. A few minutes passed in silence until she was done with her food.

Anna took the tray and put it aside. She turned around and took the towel, ready to help Erin to dry her hair.

"I-" Erin wanted to say that she could do it alone, but in the end, she swallowed her words, as she looked at the never-changing smile on Anna's face.

"Hey, Anna, there was a lot of activity in the castle. What is going on?" Erin asked, preplexed from the movements she saw earlier.

"What activities?" Anna tilted her head, confused.

"Um, a lot of people are training. And I can see more guards, too." Erin was puzzled with that. Was there an attack while she was away?

"Oh, that? It's the preparation for the war." Anna answered as if it was obvious.

"Wait, war?" Erin almost jumped from her spot. Why wasn't she aware of that war?

"You don't know?" Anna paused for a second, not expecting that. She looked at her master and saw her nodding. She finally realized that no one told her about the war.

"Um, the human Empire started a crusade against us and they are bringing an army that should be here in a few more days. That's why we are preparing for war." Anna explained. She looked at her master, as Erin's body stiffened. A few minutes of silence followed and Erin took a deep breath.

"I see."

Erin wasn't sure how to feel about the war. It wasn't like she was scared. She had killed a lot of people already and participated in a war against the werewolves, too. What's more, she still remembered the ruined castle and the lost lives when she returned from that war. There were the slave traders too, and finally, there was Lyse.

The sword that pierced through Lyse's body was still fresh in her memories. Erin's hatred ran deep already, but that didn't mean she hated all the humans. There were still some memories of good encounters that she had.

What bothered her more was the fact that the humans were targeting them all the time. Sure, she could understand that while she needed blood to live and killed a lot of people, it was normal for humans to hate her. But the vampires were almost extinct. Were they trying to eliminate them once and for all?

That brought more hatred in her mind. She could understand their logic, but she wanted to live, too. For her to do that, she would have to face them. Sorting through her mind, she came to the most logical answer for her. 'I will fight.' Though, if she was still a human, maybe her thinking would be similar to the other humans.

She sighed. It wasn't her fault that she was a vampire now. The advertisement that brought her to this world and the warnings at the end crossed through her mind. 'Alright, maybe it's my fault for being a vampire.' She thought dejectedly.

'Wait, no, it's not my fault!' Even if she was a vampire now, that was something she never expected. But she was still enjoying her new life to some extent. There were a lot of hardships and sorrows in the last few months that she had been through, but that made her will for survival only stronger.

She already had companions that she cherished. What's more, she liked her new body. Thinking about all of these, there wasn't another choice, but to fight in the war.

"Alright, I want to rest now," Erin said as she looked at Anna. Her maid didn't move from her spot. She only watched her with her usual smile. Erin gulped.

"Anna-"

"Master, can I stay with you for the night?" Anna asked, her smile widening.

"Wha-" Erin was speechless. Why would she want to stay with her for the night? But thinking about the sorry state in which Anna was when she returned, Erin sighed.

"Fine."

It was her fault to leave Anna in the castle back then. It would be hard to make her leave now. Erin accepted her destiny and let Anna stay for the night.
