Game’s Dogma

Chapter 143: Other-Worldly Luck

Drako Yau was at a loss for words as he looked at Dumbgirl.

‘Don’t you have any friends?’

‘No, they say I’m too dumb’, she said while shaking her head.

Another poor kid.

Dumbgirl never had any friends, yet Yip Ku-sing killed all the players whom she thought were trying to become friends with her. Of course she was going to be mad, and that went on for a whole day. Drako Yau used almost half an hour to let her know Yip Ku-sing was in fact helping her out.

Dumbgirl thought about it for a moment, then nodded. ‘Okay.’

Drako Yau asked in suspicion, ‘Do you really get it?’

‘I get it.’ Dumbgirl had a serious look, so much that Drako Yau couldn’t bear looking right into her eyes. ‘So that big bro’s actually a good guy?’

‘Hah…’ Drako Yau let out a long sigh. Gaining such an achievement was even more satisfying than talking his way out of his deal with Ichor Hon. He nodded his head heavily and said, ‘Right.’

He then asked Dumbgirl how she levelled up, and her answer was just as startling.

In the starter village, most players clear rabbit hunting quests to level up and leave the village as soon as possible. However, Dumbgirl was a pure girl who thought wild rabbits were too cute to be slain, so she went to fight Level 5 wolves while she was only Level 1. She died over and over again at first, but slowly, she started getting the hang of how to deal with the wolves after three days. Everything went well as she reached Level 10. Yet she continued to fight wolves… all the way until she was Level 20 by slaying nothing but Level 10 wolves.

‘What’s your class?’

Dumbgirl asked with a serious look again, ‘What’s a class?’

Drako Yau then taught her how to check her class.

Starter—it technically wasn’t designed to be a hidden class. In Drako Yau’s version of Real World, the Starter class was the starting point for all players, though in this version, everyone had pre-assigned classes. Level 5 was supposed to be the threshold for players to choose their classes and learn their respective skills, which was why all classes had their first skill at Level 5. Never did he think that it would become a hidden class in this version.

Drako Yau shook his head and laughed, then stood up and was about to leave when Dumbgirl asked, ‘Where are you going?’

Dumbgirl seemed to be around sixteen or so years old. Despite having a cute face, she always had this serious look which was kind of funny to look at.

‘I’m going.’

Drako Yau only stepped up because he thought Yip Ku-sing was bullying a little girl.

‘Don’t go, you taught me a lot of things. You’re my master.’

‘What?’ His jaws dropped wide open beneath his mask. The stuff he had taught her were just the basics among basics.

‘It’s nothing special, you don’t have to do this.’

Dumbgirl shook her head firmly and said, ‘No, mum told me that “once a master, a father forever”. Papa!’

Drako Yau was stunned when he heard the word ‘papa’. He stood there as if he had been struck by lightning.

Just what does this dumb girl have for brains…

He had no plans of getting involved with her, so he turned around and left, only to find that Dumbgirl followed behind him. He could see her determined eyes every time he looked back.

Suddenly, a bald eagle spawned next to him.

‘Papa watch out!’

Dumbgirl ran forwards and fought the bald eagle.

Drako Yau didn’t know what to say. He found dealing with Dumbgirl more frustrated than the past month. Bald eagles were merely low level monsters. Even after taking his Level 20 equipment out of the equation, with his techniques alone, he could’ve taken care of the eagle easily.

More surprisingly, Dumbgirl was more adept at fighting than he had expected. She engaged and retreated at the right moments, and her every movement reflected that she knew the bald eagle’s moves on the back of her hand. It didn’t take long at all for her to kill the eagle.

Ding!

A glistering longsword dropped from the bald eagle. Dumbgirl picked the sword up, then ran over and presented it to Drako Yau with both hands.

‘Papa, here.’

Surprises just never stopped coming. A Level 15 epic longsword! From a little eagle?

‘Dumbgirl, do you often get epic equipment? Oh, I mean those stuff with orange names.’

Dumbgirl had a brightened expression as she nodded and said, ‘Ten or so maybe.’

‘Surprised’ wasn’t enough to describe his current emotions. Stunned, shocked, startled… every word seemed to fit.

‘What do you do with them?’

Dumbgirl pointed into the distance. ‘At the village over there, there’s a blacksmith who takes these things in.’

He was completely speechless. The direction she was pointing at was the starter village. In other words, she had been selling epic equipment to the NPC for a few gold coins each…

Drako Yau sighed. He didn’t really have a choice, did he? He brought Dumbgirl along on the trip to Chris’ hut while explaining various things about the game.

Chris’ hut was rather far away. They were only halfway there after he walked and explained for over half an hour. There had been moments when he wanted to stop talking, but seeing how concentrated and diligent Dumbgirl seemed, he continued his lecture.

He felt like he had spoken his entire life’s worth of words in the past thirty minutes. It was tiring, even more so than training or fighting. Dumbgirl wasn’t a complete idiot either. When she noticed that Drako Yau’s voice sounded a bit coarse, she tugged his arm and pointed the other way.

‘There’s a tea house over there, papa. Let’s rest there.’

‘Sigh…’

Hearing Dumbgirl call him papa gave him a headache. He allowed Dumbgirl to drag him along as she led the way. Soon, the ‘tea house’ was within sight.

At that moment, Drako Yau felt that he had never been so powerless before.

‘This is the tea house you speak of?’

Dumbgirl nodded. ‘Yeah.’

Drako Yau first looked at Dumbgirl’s serious expression, then glanced at the word ‘Alcohol’ hung on the structure’s door and sighed. He no longer had the energy to refute her. Holding her hand, he led her towards the entrance, but it took only a few steps before he noticed something was off.

There… shouldn’t be any bars here…

They were already right outside the bar when they heard a man’s loud voice.

‘Bartender! Another ten catties of sorghum wine!’

[Note: Catty is a traditional unit of mass in Southeast Asia. One catty equals 0.5 kg.]

The voice struck Drako Yau like thunder as he stood blankly on the spot. Dumbgirl saw his reaction and was confused.

‘Pa… Master, what’s wrong?’

After putting in a lot of effort, Drako Yau finally taught Dumbgirl to call him master instead of papa. Anyways, he didn’t bother about such trivial things right now. He grabbed Dumbgirl’s arms and asked, ‘What’s your level? You can find it at “Character Status”.’

‘I don’t have to check it. Level 20, what’s wrong with that?’

Drako Yau was truly surprised this time. A Level 20 starter! Wasn’t this the encounter quest he had designed himself?

Oh Dumbgirl, you’re slow-witted, but the heavens gave you other-worldly luck in return!

‘Dumbgirl, follow me. Have some alcohol with your master.’

Dumbgirl frowned upon hearing ‘alcohol’ and wanted to reject him, but because it was her master’s order, she unwillingly went with him.
