han meixiu was suddenly stupefied. that blow was something she didn't expect. 'not her mom?' but she was clearly the mom she knew! unless...

"i..am…adopted?"

"no, you're our daughter." he didn't really want to explain further. the lesser she knew the better but the young woman would definitely not let it go.

"then…who is she? she was clearly my mom!" her eyes were full of confusion. she knew what she saw! that woman was her mother! or, looked exactly like her mother?

if the woman wasn't her mom why was her father taking care of her? was she his real love or something and her mother was just a replacement? was that the reason why they divorced in the past?

"she's wang jinyi. she is the key to find your mom." he hoped his presumption was correct. other than that woman, he didn't know where else he could get decent information that would really give him definite answer.

it's been three years. though he got some information, majority of what he has were just purely assumptions. he's hoping the woman would wake up before they ran out of time.

the first time he saw wang jinyi he also thought she was zhang huiling, his wife. but he found out soon enough she wasn't the one he's looking for. they looked exactly the same. if he didn't knew his wife was the only daughter of the zhangs, he would have thought she's her identical twin sister.

he followed her because her resemblance was something he could not accept as coincidental. when he was given a chance, he was able to confront the woman. he could still remember how their conversation went. it was short but promising.

wang jinyi knew him and his wife. she knew he was looking for her. they wanted to cooperate as she had some information but right at that moment, she had to do some urgent thing.

they planned to meet again but they weren't able to do so.

she was already in coma the next time he saw her. she suffered from a traumatic brain injuries caused by an accident. the authorities told him it was a car accident but he believed otherwise. for him, it probably was an attempted murder.

"wang jinyi?" han meixiu repeated the name her father just said making the latter stopped the flow of his memory and looked at her. loneliness was clearly written on his eyes.

'wasn't she the one who worked momentarily in emerald imperial hotel? so, it wasn't a pseudonym. it was her real name.'

"yes. she really looked like your mom."

"she worked in emerald imperial hotel three years ago. i thought it was mom who was using a fake name." she blurted out her thoughts making han yun xiang stared at her keenly with knitted eyebrows.

"you're investigating? how did you get that information?" he was clearly not pleased with what she did.

"a friend gave them to me." she wasn't sure why her father's voice suddenly sounded a bit cold this time. she felt she was being scolded just like a child eating a candy after brushing her teeth just before going to bed.

"both of you stop while it's still early. it's not a child's game." he said with a warning tone as he breathed in and out to calm himself. he didn't expect that his daughter knew something she normally wouldn't or shouldn't know.

her so-called friend might have good intention for helping her but she's just getting both of them into trouble if they would continue.

if han meixiu was still living peacefully, then it meant they weren't discovered yet.

"live your life peacefully. when i find your mother, we'll visit you." and with that he slowly got up and started to walk.

he had to go.

his steps were heavy and slow as he moved away from her. he didn't know when he could show up in front of her again or if his promise would really come true one day but he still needed to say some comforting words before he left.

his words reverberated several times on han meixiu's mind and by the time she wanted to ask another question; his body slowly disappeared in the dark.

she didn't try to move. maybe it was because she's really exhausted or she knew that han yun xiang would not give her any more information. her eyes lonely followed the disappearing silhouette of her father.

'when i find your mother, we will visit you..'

'we will visit you..'

'visit you..'

the question would be 'when?'. she knew in herself that deep down no matter how long it would be she's willing to wait.

this wasn't the first time she received a warning as she recalled the other parts of their conversation.

'it must be really complicated.' she told herself.

she got lost in her own world as she tried to plan which step she should take next. should she really stop or not? or the better question would be 'could she stop or not?'

she expected to get some answers and not more questions from her father. but most reality wouldn't meet your expectations. like the most people in the world, she was slapped with disappointment. truly, the harsh power of reality.

this weekend she should inform li xioazhi. her best friend might be able to give her an advice on how to deal with her dilemma. unfortunately, her plan would not be able to materialize that particular weekend.

liu zijian was already waiting for the boarding time in the airport when he received a message from his mom.

when madam liu told him that his brother was in a hospital and was already fine, he automatically remembered he was with his wife.

the last message he received from liu zilong was when they started to roam around after they had lunch. he wasn't able to respond as he got busy.

but he was surprised to find out that she wasn't there. where could han meixiu go? he just finished solving a situation and yet there's another one.

his wife seemed to be just like his mom, attracting unnecessary troubles.

before he could say another word, he heard his father's voice.

"we'll check if there's an unidentified female as well."

"okay." he answered shortly. he thought he could directly go home as his body seemed to feel tired by his jam-packed schedule but it seemed to be not possible this time.
