You're My Only Star

Chapter 1:A Job Offer

On the computer screen, the credit end rolled up, and soon, the screen showed the SMPTE color bar image.

In front of the widescreen computer, a young woman with her hair tied into a messy sat down on the swiveling chair. Beside her was a middle-aged man with salt and pepper hair. The man had a pen in his hand as he jotted something on the small notebook.

After a brief silence between them, the middle-aged man finally looked up from his notebook and turned to Song Xing Xing. Producer Ming stared at her for a very long time, making her heart jumped around in anticipation.

Until a moment that seemed like an eternity, Producer Ming finally curled her lips into a smile and said, "It's a pass from me."

Song Xing Xing stood up from her chair and shot her fist into the air. "Yes!"

Seeing the way she reacted, Producer Ming let out a chuckle. "Are you that happy?"

"Of course!" Song Xing Xing answered happily. "This is the last episode I'm in charge of. Why wouldn't I be happy?"

"Well if the other big bosses are happy with your episode, you don't have to make any change afterward," Producer Ming said as he tapped his pen on the table a few times. "As usual, the others are going to be here on Friday for your episode screening. Don't be late."

Song Xing Xing nodded enthusiastically. "Un. I know. I will be here on time."

Just as she was gathering her books and pen on the table, Producer Ming spoke again.

"Song Xing Xing, what are you going to do after this show ended?"

"Hmm..." The girl thought over his question for a few seconds. "I don't know. I guess I will continue to look for a new show. I have sent out my resume to a few studios as well. Hopefully, I will be able to get a permanent job." A thought crossed her mind and Song Xing Xing looked at Producer Ming with bright eyes. "Producer Ming, if you're involved in a new show, you have to remember to bring me with you."

"If you're not joining other crews early next year, then I will come and find you."

Song Xing Xing's eyes brightened at his words. It was not hard for her to get the Producer's subtle meaning. He was going to work on a new show soon and wanted her to come along.

"Producer Ming, I will definitely clear up my schedule to join you and your new show!"

The middle-aged man laughed. "Have you heard of NEXT Group?"

Producer Ming gave him an impressed look. "You know a lot than I thought."

"Producer Ming, I have been reading some gossips during my free time and come across to know about this company." Song Xing Xing smiled sheepishly. "Mu Xiao Xiao is new in the industry. She's very beautiful and talented."

"Well, in this industry it is impossible if you don't look at some gossips. There's nothing to be shy about." Producer Ming laughed. "Although we are not as famous as those talents, we are a part of showbiz as well. It is important to know those gossips and know a little bit about the people we are going to working with."

Song Xing Xing smiled at his words.

"NEXT Group is planning to start up a studio early next year. I heard that the big boss of NEXT Group had too much money and this time, he wanted to invest in a studio. A good friend of mine wanted me to go over. I have looked at their business plan, and I think this company should be good. The big boss is someone with good vision. Every project he touched will only bring him more money. You have seen how they build up Next Bright Entertainment from scratch and had risen to be one of the popular entertainment companies in Capital City."

Producer Ming coughed when he realized that he has been speaking too much. "Anyway, my friend asked me to recruit and bring in some talent. I immediately think of you. We have worked with each other in a few shows together and I know that you are good with your job. If you are willing to start at this new studio, then, how about you go with me?"

Song Xing Xing's expression brightened up. A thought crossed her mind and she immediately calmed down. "Producer Ming, the new job in this company… will it be a contractual or a permanent job?"

The middle-aged man smiled. "Of course it's a permanent position."

Song Xing Xing let out a loud gasp.

She has been working as a video editor for almost two years since graduating, but most of the time, she was hired contractually based on the show she's joining. Song Xing Xing has been trying to find a permanent position in this industry, but most of the studios wanted a contractual worker as they were cheaper and less troublesome.

Her parents had nagged her about her job, but Song Xing Xing could only tell them that she wanted to gain more experience.

Fortunately, after working on three shows with different people and different conditions, Song Xing Xing had gained a lot of experience and learned a lot from her seniors. Because of her good attitude and willingness to learn, Producer Ming had looked for her again and get her to join in the current drama as a video editor.

Producer Ming had been in the industry for years and had good eyes. He had seen how much she had improved since the first time they worked together and thought that he would love to work with this young girl again.

"You have worked hard in different shows and learning through your seniors," Producer Ming said. "I like working with you and think you should come and work with me in this new studio. Song Xing Xing, what do you say?"
