What A Dream Wants

11 Steven Has Fun Falling From The Sky

"A saint!" A boy pointed at him. A young boy with black hair looked at him curiously.

Steven groaned, patting himself off. He stood up from the crater he just made.

"Hi," Steven said.

'Hm...' He pondered. 'Was this little boy the cause of the strange aura?'

He looked at the little boy curiously but was unable to find anything unique about him. The little boy then proceeded to interrupt his thoughts.

"Woah, can you teach me how to fall from the sky??" The little boy asked excitedly.

"Um... no."

"Why not?" The boy pouted.

"You'll die- I mean... you'd get hurt," Steven said.

"Aww..." The boy used adorable puppy eyes.

It wasn't very effective.

Steven closed his eyes.

"Hey... why is your hair color changing?" The boy poked him.

Steven opened his eyes and sighed.

"Where are your parents?" Steven asked.

"They're at town! They said not to annoy them, and play by myself, so I play here by myself." The kid said, picking up a ball. "Oh, I have a good idea, why don't you play with me?"

"Haven't your parents told you not to talk to strangers?" Steven asked.

"Uh... of course? Mister, everyone knows that!"

"I'm a stranger," Steven said.

"You're a stranger?" Fear crept up his face. "Stranger Danger! Stranger Danger! Stranger Danger!" The kid said, running around him.

Steven's face twitched. The little boy was indeed just normal- plain and simple.

"Alright enough, what's your name?" Steven asked the little kid.

"Oh, my name?" The kid stopped and smiled brightly. "My name is Max! It's short for something. All I know is that my name means I'm the greatest."

His eyes shined and sparkled.

"Okay, well, I'm going to the town," Steven said. "Bye, Max."

"I'll bring you there!" The kid offered his grubby hand up.

Steven held his hand, and the kid started running to the town...

. . .

They approached a village which was surrounded by walls. The main gate was guarded by two men.

Max dropped his ball, and ran up to one of the guards and gave him a bear hug.

"Uncle, we have a stranger who fell from the sky!" Max exclaimed.

"Didn't I tell you not to talk to strangers?" The guard said.

'I told him that too...' Steven thought to himself.

"He's a nice stranger! Plus, he fell from the sky!"

"Okay..." The uncle looked up from his nephew.

"Welcome to our humble village," The guard said. "I'm Hughes, and this is my nephew, Max. What's your name?"

"My name's Steven." He told the man.

"This is my friend, Walter." Hughes pointed at the other guard.

"Hey." Walter gave a polite nod.

"What's your name, sir? What brings you to this village?" Hughes asked.

"Estevan? Does your name mean anything?" Max asked, curious.

"It means crown," Steven told Max.

"A crown? Like what kings and queens wear? Are you a noble or something?" Max asked.

"I guess," Steven replied.

"Wow! That's cool! I'm friends with a noble." Max said, dancing around.

"Oh, you're a noble, Sir Estevan?" Hughes asked, surprised.

"Just a minor one, Estevan is fine."

"Your hair... it sort of looks like a shade of purple and brown," Hughes asked, looking at Steven. "I've never seen anyone with purple hair before."

"My hair is only a bit purple, it's more like a variation of brown. I guess the best way to describe it would be to compare it to a mocha bean." Steven asked.

"What's a mocha bean?" Walter asked.

"It's a type of bean. They're usually brownish red in color, but they can also be a bit purplish brown. It's a color called Mocha Purple."

"Oh," Walter simply stated. "I don't think those beans are native to here."

Hughes clasped his hands together.

"That's right. Mr. Estevan, we rarely have newcomers, why don't you join my family for dinner?" Hughes asked. "Our village doesn't have the most people, so I'll invite some people to join us."

"Okay, I'll go play with Max, then?" Steven asked.

"Sure," Hughes said, and then whispered softly, "He's tough to handle. A nice kid and all, but also a mischievous troublemaker at times."

"I heard that!" Max pouted.

"Hey Max, go play with this brother here, okay?" Walter softly murmured to the kid.

"Okay!" Max said.

Steven stared. They didn't ask for his opinion...

"Be back for dinner," Hughes said worriedly. "Don't forget!"
