Chapter 14: Frontiers of Empire: Faith of the Emperor

Chapter 14 The Frontiers of the Empire: The Faith of the Emperor

The orbital elevator descended rapidly amidst the rumbling sound of operation, the mechanical platform and the gear dents on the surrounding shafts were constantly matching, moving forward and backward in coordination, the scarlet warning lights were constantly flashing on both sides, and the eye sockets of the decorative skull sculptures In the center, those disturbing warning red lights are also flashing.

The old orbital elevator is full of rust, and almost everything is covered with traces of time. Even the Imperial Star Eagle logo is almost invisible, and only a little bit of the golden surface remains, and the rest Already corroded by this sunless low nest.

Vito leaned against the control machine servant, his whole head was covered by some kind of metal hood, connected with countless intubation tubes and wires, all his limbs were missing, he got down alone and was fixed on the electronic control platform superior.

But anyway, he can still operate normally, let this track elevator, which has not been maintained for God knows how long, carry himself to the low nest.

In the orbital elevator shaft leading directly to the deep underground, Vito heard the click outside the elevator and the occasional strange echo. Most people would probably be quite frightened at this moment. To be honest, normal imperial people would not go to the low nest, but obviously , Vito is not a normal person, so this is not the first time he has gone to the low nest.

Vito skillfully found the elevator that was in disrepair, but as expected, there was not even a law enforcement officer from the Ministry of Justice around this elevator, so Vito happily borrowed this elevator.

The elevator is heading deep underground, as if heading to the terrifying abyss in the Eye of Terror, and it is true in a sense.

The elevator stopped, the flashing red lights jumped around the gate, and the rusted gate slowly lifted.

The warning siren echoed in Vito's ears, the red light illuminated the ground outside, Vito patted the soulless servitor on the shoulder, "Thanks, buddy."

Vito didn't wait for the servitor to respond, and he didn't respond, nor did the linear program the Mechanic taught him in his head.

Vito looked around at everything, surrounded by underground structures that had been abandoned for an unknown amount of time, huge storage tanks, towering metal domes, and rusty machinery.

Mmm. Low Nest, the messiest, most sinful place the Empire has ever seen.

Here is full of mutants, heretics, cultists and dissidents, all kinds of hive gangs, these outlaws who roam outside the emperor's light inhabit and multiply here.

Even law enforcement officials almost never come down here. If the upper echelon of the empire needs to do something in the low nest, they usually find mercenaries instead of wronging themselves to come down to deal with it.

Under the dim dome space, there are only a few distant, almost dreamlike lights that illuminate the underground world. It is very quiet here, as if this world has died, and I am walking in a cold corpse.

Vito turned his head and looked at the giant energy storage tanks beside him. He couldn't see what those tanks were used for, but judging from the huge Mechanicum mark on its surface, he had better not try to open it.

The boots inlaid with silver patterns stepped on the surface of the long bridge, and he looked to the ground far below the bridge, "It's really high."

Talking about what he found out of the corner of his eye, the fire, or candlelight to be precise, was at the end of the long bridge.

Vito walked curiously to the source of the candlelight. It was a shrine, in which a **** was enshrined, a **** who looked a little familiar and yet unfamiliar.

Vito squatted down and looked at the **** carefully. It has to be said that the level of its sculptor needs to be improved, but Vito can still roughly see its face clearly.

A human being, roughly a human being, this human **** sitting on a chair, a throne? A statue of the Emperor? No, this is not the image of the Emperor.

Vito reached out to touch the sculpture, but heard footsteps.

He stopped, turned his head to look at the people in the corridor, candles were lit on both sides of the dark corridor, and several people appeared in the flickering candlelight.

Several low-nest residents of different shapes came over, each carrying weapons of different workmanship.

"Everyone, what can I help?" Vito stood up with a smile, and quietly pressed the trigger of the bolt gun with one hand.

The leader pointed at Vito with a mechanical finger, "Why don't you salute and pray to the Lord of Redemption, outsider."

Vito tilted his head slightly, showing a confused expression, "The Lord of Redemption? Who is it?"

The leader walked up to Vito, staring at Vito nervously, his pale face was like that of a dead man.

"You too are heretics! This is the image of the Emperor himself! You must pray to him!"

The gangsters surrounded them, and Vito looked at them. Everyone had a coiled snake logo tattooed on their arms, and they were the same group as the gangsters in the ground starport.

"Pray! And believe in Him! Only then will you be saved!" the leader babbled, looking like a bigoted Anglican missionary, a bigoted missionary with a gun.

"May I ask, what if I say no?" "Then we will chastise you on His behalf!"

The leader yelled, drew his gun and pressed it against Vito's chest.

The latter didn't panic when he looked at the muzzle of the gun, but looked at the members of the low nest gang in front of him with interest.

Vito smiled politely, "Can I ask a question?" "Question? Question about what?" I took drugs.

Vito still had a smile on his face, and looked at the remaining gang members, "As far as I know, you belong to the Pious Society. I guess, you are not the only gang party here? Just like most of the low nests."

"Yes, there are too many heretics, just like you!" shouted the leader, his mechanical fingers crackling, "but for the Emperor! We will let them understand the truth! We will be redeemed! Salvation from the stars! "

Vito's smile turned into sarcasm, "Then, in such a chaotic low nest, conflicts and **** deaths often occur between gangs, just like most places in the empire."

"I thought, what if there was an unfortunate gang conflict happening here and now?" "What do you mean?"

The leader asked, but Vito showed a sincere smile, "Then please allow me to explain."

There was a loud gunshot, and the leader's back was pierced by a bullet. The gangsters were shocked, but Vito grabbed the leader's collar, and the bolter popped out of his armpit and fired two shots. The gangster's head and shoulders were smashed into pieces.

Turning the muzzle of the gun, another shot, the gangster's arm was neatly broken, and he pulled the trigger blindly amidst the screams, and the bullets bounced around in the metal corridor.

The remaining two finally came to their senses and started firing at Vito, but the latter used the leader's corpse as a meat shield, and the body was torn apart by the flying bullets, but Vito rushed up to the two of them.

Vito threw the body to one of them, and the weight of the body made him sway unsteadily. At this moment, Vito raised the muzzle of the bolter and smashed his leg with precision.

The gangster fell to the ground, his head was smashed amidst the screams, and the last one shot in panic, but the fear brought only confusion, and the blind and aimless shooting missed Vito at all.

The latter rushed towards the opponent at a very fast speed, and a gun **** hit him in the face.

Vito grabbed his collar, pressed it firmly against the armrest, stretched out half of his body completely, and it was only because of Vito's grasp that he didn't fall off.

Vito raised the muzzle of his gun, and shot the last dazed head in pieces.

"Second question, how many local gangs are there? What's their name?" "What?!" "You heard the question clearly, my friend, if you are willing to answer, I will let you go..."

"The Emperor! Are you crazy?!" "In terms of the degree of madness, you are better than me. Now answer the question."

Vito loosened his fingers, and the **** fell a little lower, who yelled in horror, "Three! Three! Besides us, there are the Hammer Gang and the Criminal Syndicate! One of them controls the factory, and the other controls and goes to the nest. Trade Network!"

"Thank you for your cooperation and have a nice day."

Vito let go of his fingers, and the **** screamed and fell, and there was an echo after a few seconds.

Vito leaned on the armrest and looked down, "Oh, it really wasn't a light fall."

He withdrew his body, seeing that the shrine tilted his head jokingly.

"Well, it's a little more complicated than I thought."

He said so, and then shot the shrine, and then showed a smile, "Then it's more complicated."
