Under Her Cursed Scythe

44 3 Days Before Halloween PART B

"This can't be." Alivia muttered, "None of my previous preys were that young."

Questions about how the branded ones were chosen and how the little girl ended up on her list of possible victims filled up her mind but that didn't stop her from doing what she was asked to. She sprang from her hiding place with a light bounce and noiselessly landed behind the little girl's back.

Before she took off her glove, she thought. 'She's the one who robbed me of my father. She will never learn the pain of having a mother who cares only about her son but not her daughter. She's being loved and lives in a life full of joy and fortune. Life will be fairer if she dies young!'

With all those jealous thoughts in mind, Alivia had sufficient reasons to kill the little girl. Her bare hand that had the Reaper's ring on, was so eager to get in touch with the back of the little girl's neck where the sparkly symbol was at. It got closer and closer, and she could almost feel the texture of that little girl's skin when suddenly, the weeping paused and Alivia heard, "Is that a Polaris star?"

The little girl tipped her head to the sky. "The brightest star…Yes, it must be it! Teddy! We have help now! Mommy once told me that the Polaris star doesn't just tell us which way is North, it is also called the Star of Miracles! If we wish upon it, anything will come true!", she told her little bear with a whisper. "Let's make a wish and hope it works!"

Then, she dropped her head, shutting her eyes tight, and prayed in a genuine tone, "Please...please Polaris star...oh please! I need your help. Please help me to find my way out of this park . Please help me to find my parents..."

While she was praying, Alivia , on the other hand, whose attention was completely drawn away by the little girl's discovery, unwittingly dropped her hand that was once raised in the midair.

'The Polaris star!?' She wondered as she gazed up at the dark sky. 'No way, the Polaris star shouldn't be here. It should be…'

Once her eyes caught sight of the same single point of light she took note of the other night at the mall, standing out from the sea of stars, she felt something strange and different from last time. She couldn't take her eyes off it anymore and seemed to be paralyzed as if there were mysterious charms within that shiny, silvery gem.
