Under Her Cursed Scythe

16 6 Days Before Halloween PART C

"Who are you talking about?"

"Joshua, of course." All the while, she stared at the back of her crush and of Alivia with discontent eyes. "She's extremely rude to him but he still defends her. Remember last time when a boy teased her, Joshua stood up for her right away but she didn't even say 'thank you'." she said, wiggling her head from side to side.

"She? You mean the Jinx? "

"Duh! Of course I am talking about her. Who else I'm talking about?"

"Well, you talk about a lot of people…"

"Tsk-" the girl with rust-coloured hair cast a glare at her friend. "Anyways, the Jinx…yes, you can barely see her smile and she always looks so pissed off."

"Like the whole world has wronged her?" her friend put in. "Like she holds a grudge towards everyone in the world including herself?"

"Exactly!" the girl agreed. "Actually…I don't care if she hates me." she denoted. "But what I do care, is that no matter how mean and cold she has been, Joshua keeps on being nice to her like a duckling that has imprinted on her! I'm not bad myself, aren't I? I go to the church and do charity works every other weekend, and I am nice to everyone! I even allowed that smelly oversized girl to sit next to me during lunch! What's her name again?"

"Kate."

"Oh…that's what she's called? What a lame name!" the girl with rust-coloured hair intoned, creasing her brows and pulling a face. "Anyways…so what makes Joshua think Jinx is better than…me?" She rolled her shoulders back and flipped her hair arrogantly as the last word of the question slipped out of her mouth.

"I think Joshua's just being nice to her like he's being nice to everybody. Remember the other day when he stood up for Thomas, that skinny boy who was bullied by the seniors? He even had the guts to stand up against Mr. Carlos...or Cayo... you know, the Spanish teacher who picks on his students without the right reasons. Joshua's kindness is from the bottom of his heart, he doesn't have a limit or a requirement behind it. Unlike you... you are only nice to someone when you need something from them." Her friend commented boldly and smirked.

"Ouch!" the girl with the rust-coloured hair appeared to be offended as she placed her hand on her chest, opening her eyes wide for a second. " If you weren't my best friend, I would have smacked you on the face by now." She shook her head while her lips formed a cruel smile. "But... yes, you know me, sis. " she admitted in a brazen tone. "But still, we are a perfect match! Me, the most popular girl, and Joshua, the nicest guy at school." she denoted with her nose in the air. "I just want him to be kind to me and only me! Not that gloomy b...witch over there!" A vulgar word was nearly ejaculated from her mouth.

"No, I don't."

"Really?" doubted her friend. "The hottest, the tallest, the baddest, the smartest and now the nicest…" she counted, putting down her fingers as she listed out the characteristics of the boys the girl with rust-coloured hair had dated before. "So who's gonna be next? The sportiest guy at school?" she gave a soft chuckle. "But the part that I don't get is...why do you have to worry about Jinx?" she sneered. "I can guarantee that he will never choose her over you unless he's blind."

The girl with rust-coloured hair shook her head. "I really feel that he treats her differently." she noted. "I just feel like that especially from the way he looks at her. He has that dreamy, hopeful dark-eyed kind of gaze. You know? That kind of-Argh! I don't know how to explain it to you!"

"You know what I think?"

"No..."

"I think you are just being too sensitive because of your temporary crush on him!" her friend intentionally raised her tone to emphasize.

"Hush! What are you doing? Lower down your voice!" the girl with rust-coloured hair hissed. "Joshua will hear you!"

"Are you afraid that he will hear the part about your crush on him or the word 'temporary'?" her friend mocked. "Well, he should-"

"Ashley! Regina! Oh seigneur! Why is everyone so distracted today?"

The two girls were immediately alerted by the teacher's sharp voice.

"I believe you have something to share with us?"

"No, Mrs. Devereux. You've misunderstood us. We were just discussing about the pronunciations of the phrases on page 15." the girl with rust-coloured hair-Regina, responded while she flashed her white teeth at the teacher, pretending to be the good student.

"Then I guess you can read the first line of paragraph one for us?" the teacher said as she placed down the white chalk in her hand and folded her arms across her rather impressive bosom.

"Huh!?Um...uh...Je suis...je...um…"

*DING DONG DING DONG...

Before Regina could read out the first line, the end-of-class bell rang.

"Leave it. " the teacher sighed and whipped her head from side to side. "I am extremely disappointed by all of you," She gazed at Joshua and added, "Except you. You have been very helpful and attentive as always." Then, she let her eyes wander around the rest of the class and raised her voice, "But for the rest of you... next time, when I come into this classroom, I demand no one sleeps or talks during my lesson! Otherwise, please leave the classroom if you are not ready for my class! Do you hear me?" she yelled grumpily and began to clear her desk. "Class dismissed."

Before she walked out of the classroom, the teacher cast a glare at her students, shook her head again and slammed the classroom door with such force in that the loud thud made herself jump.

Regina made a face at the teacher's back and denoted, "Don't worry. She would be gone by the next semester. I'm going to tell my Daddy to fire her! "
