Under Her Cursed Scythe

14 6 Days Before Halloween PART A

"So, if you want to say 'I'm sorry. I am busy.' in French, you can say 'Je suis désolé. Je-" the teacher broke off and whipped around. "Elle encore... Mademoiselle... Madem-*Cough…Can someone please wake Miss Hestia up?" she requested, switching back to English.

As soon as this was said, everyone in the classroom shifted their focus towards the girl who was snoring loudly in her seat.

"I will do it, Mrs. Devereux." the boy next to the sleeping girl threw up his left hand and volunteered.

"Qui. Merci beaucoup, Mr. Eckhart." the teacher responded.

The boy softly patted the girl's shoulder and gently called her name, "Alivia, Alivia, wake up…wake up..."

However, that didn't seem to work, since his voice sounded more like a sweet lullaby than a wakening call. The girl remained asleep as if she was in a comma, so after a while, the boy changed his "tactic".

He shook the girl's shoulder with force and with the help from his classmates, they cried towards her ears, "Wake up, Alivia!" , and it worked!

"Hmm…?" The girl finally woke up from her slumber, peering blearily up at the figure before her.

"Es-tu fatiguee?" asked the teacher.

"Oh!" As soon as her conscious was clear, the girl understood her situation then and there. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Devereux."

"If you have listened to my lesson just now, you would have known how to say that in French, Miss Hestia."

"I-" Alivia's throat went dry and her mind went blank.

"I believe this is not the first time you have slept during my class. If you are tired, you should sleep earlier at night." the teacher preached. "School is a place for you to study and work hard. Not a place for you to rest! Now open your book and start reading page 15! I don't want you to fail your tests again!"
