Twenty Seven Years

Chapter 21: reward

  Chapter 21 Harvest

"Why did you go back? Didn't he pass the test?" Although Fletcher said he couldn't explain the reason, Verak still pretended to be unacceptable and asked a question that was destined to be unanswered, "Is it because yesterday Went out with me once? We haven't dealt with anyone outside, so there should be no omissions?"

"There is no comment on this point, but don't worry, I will arrange for him and your other friend Nord to come back as soon as possible." Fletcher never let go, "Okay, let's go down and have lunch."

Verak immediately became depressed, nodded slowly, and followed Fletcher downstairs.

That old friend really died, really so simple. It's okay to say that he died at the hands of Veraker, and Veraker felt a little uncomfortable. Fletcher sensed Veraker's sadness, but he understood that it was because of Dempsey's departure, so he didn't care much.

After lunch, Fletcher accidentally gave Verak a half-day off: "You can rest for an afternoon today, but you still have to remember that you can't leave this room."

   "What about you?" Verak asked.

"I have something to do, so the training will continue tomorrow." Fletcher vaguely explained the reason.

After Fletcher left, Verac has been standing at the window, waiting for Fletcher to go out.

Carmine did not come back at noon today, Julia is at school, and Meera and Kellerman will take a lunch break after lunch. Today Veraker will have more than two hours to search the study with confidence. He has a strong premonition that this time there will be a harvest, a great harvest.

After waiting for a few minutes, Veraker saw Fletcher leaving the mansion and leaving in a car. He immediately turned his head and opened the door, turned from Julia's room into Carmine's study, and started his investigation from where he left off last time.

An hour later, the bookshelves were searched, and there was no hidden compartment.

After checking the two shelves most likely to have hidden compartments, there is only one possibility left. The secret compartment is under the floor like the one in Chris's room.

Villac didn't search the floor at the beginning, because he felt that there were obviously more places suitable for hidden compartments in the study, but he didn't expect to be mistaken for his cleverness in the end. After finding it from the floor, Verak quickly discovered the anomaly from under the globe beside him.

It is the same as the hidden compartment in Chris's room, the floor gap is slightly wider than other places.

Villac moved the globe away, and used a knife to lift the floor from the gap. The floor opened smoothly, and there was a space below the size of the dark compartment in Chris's room.

"As expected of a family..." Verak muttered, without acting rashly, he first observed the things inside.

Paper documents of various sizes were neatly stacked together, and the rest of the space contained keys that Verak didn't know what to use and several boxes with combination locks.

The key and the box with the combination lock were not needed by Verak, so he noted down the location of the items in it, and then moved out a thick stack of documents.

The secrets of Carmine and Chris were about to be revealed. Beads of sweat dripped out of Verac's forehead because of nervousness. He was afraid that sweat droplets would leave traces on the paper, so he wiped it off quickly.

There is still plenty of time, but Veraker is still very guilty after getting the information. He chose to stand by the window, staring at the entrance of the mansion, and rummaging for information about Chris.

After looking through a few pages, Veraker saw the titles of 'Chris' and 'Rebel Organization' on a very thick portfolio. He couldn't help breathing heavily, pulled out the file bag from it, and put it aside.

Verak will take away the file bag about the rebel organization directly, not because he can't remember the information in it, but because after he is **** with the rebel organization in the future, Carmine's possession of these materials will be very detrimental to the rebel organization. Now that he has stolen the file bag, the Thomas family has nothing to fight against the rebel organization.

Even if Carmine later found out that the file bag was missing, he would not suspect Veraker. Speaking of which, this is also due to the death of Dempsey. Dempsey and Veraker went out together and were assassinated that night. From the perspective of Carmine and Fletcher, only rebel organizations have the ability and motivation to assassinate Dempsey.

It just so happened that the information about the rebel organization was stolen at this juncture, and they would naturally suspect the head of the rebel organization. Verak, who had always been timid and obedient, would not attract attention at all.

Already planning to take the portfolio back and read it slowly, Verak now spends more time stealing other things. If you can steal more secrets from the Carmine and Thomas families, you must not miss it. After all, when you are full-fledged and want to confront the Thomas family head-on in the future, you can use some leverage to control them.

And the theft of these things, of course, will also be counted on the rebel organization that has a lot of blame, and has nothing to do with the innocent Verak.

"The bill..." Verac found a portfolio with the bill written on it.

If it is an ordinary bill, it should not be hidden in such a secret place. I am afraid that there are many secrets in this bill. Verac opened the file bag, took out the bills inside and looked through it.

There are dozens of pages of old and new bills, and the amount of private funds on the bills is huge. Although Verac didn't know the names of everyone in it, the amount of money Carmine spent alone was enough to see that everyone in it was of great help to the Thomas family.

The bill was valuable, and Verac put it away. When he has the opportunity to find out what the person whose name corresponds to does, the purpose of the secret collusion between the two parties will be revealed.

Just as he was about to turn over again, a car drove up from a distance outside. Veracer recognized that it was the vehicle Fletcher was in when he left, and he hurriedly bent down to avoid being seen.

Time was running out, and Verac put aside the portfolio of the bill, the portfolio of the rebel organization, and put the others back in their place. After the floor was closed and the globe was moved back, Fletcher also got out of the car and walked into the mansion.

Villac first threw the two file bags into Julia's room, then turned over by himself, and returned to Chris' bedroom with two file bags that were enough to subvert the current situation.

"Huh..." Because he wasn't sure whether Fletcher would come to find him immediately after his return, Verac hid the file bag in the closet first, and didn't browse through it hastily.

He felt a little regretful that he couldn't get more information. Those boxes with combination locks probably contained even more astonishing secrets. If they could all get them, Carmine might be scared to death.

Unfortunately, the time is limited, and the lockbox is too big to carry and hide. This is destined to be just a thought.
