“What was that all about?!”

“Beats me.”

We both sighed as Theodore and I moved side by side. In the end, Father didn’t explain the conversation he had with His Highness and went to see the people in the second prince faction… in other words, former royal family members with whom we couldn’t possibly bring up the matter of Prince Leodore. So, we couldn’t ask him and continued to be kept in the dark.

“Whew~ there’s nothing we can do. Let’s just leave Father be! I’m going to the sweets corner!”

“Huh? Are you eating dessert without eating the main dish?”

“If I eat the main dish, I can’t conquer all the types of sweets they offer, can I? Theodore, you don’t know just how many varieties they serve, so you can just say something as standard as that. For a sweet tooth, Theodore, it’s just common sense to eat every single type of sweets there are.”

“…Haa.”

Ah! He definitely didn’t understand! This punk! Well, enough about him. I grabbed his arm in order to execute the strategy that dawned upon me a while before.

“Theodore, let’s go together?”

“…Why? I’m not into sweet things.”

“I want to be together with Theodore. It’ll trouble me if you’re apart.”

“…?” Theodore stiffened from surprise at my answer.

“…Am I needed?”

“Yes, you are.”

When I confirmed his words, he only replied with “Re-really…?” sounding less annoyed than before. Yes! At a time like this, I was glad that Theodore was an obedient boy.

“YAY, I can have all the sweets I want!! Ah, Theodore! I’m taking that one; go take the green tart with pistachio over there!”

“I got it… Say, Urschel,”

“..Hm? What’s the matter? AH! I’m taking that Gateau Chocolat!! Oh, what is it, Theodore?”

“I’ve been feeling many piercing gazes for quite a while…”

As expected of the dessert corner in such a big party—a rich collection of cakes and sweets were laid out beautifully. Yaaaay, such bliss! And of course, this area was unanimously buzzing with ladies…

There was an empty space around a 1.5-metre radius with us in the centre while the perimeter was full of dressed-up ladies staring hard, cheeks blushing, at us… or, more accurately, at Theodore.

I’ll say this again: Theodore was an incredibly beautiful boy. Therefore, everyone’s eyes were stuck on Theodore; their hands’ movements stopped, and they no longer bothered to eat dessert as they were enchanted by him. Taking advantage of this, I was free to pick any dessert I wanted. Usually, it would be a fierce fight with strong contenders from sweet tooth elite troopers1, so this time I really had it easy.

Moreover, as planned, there was no one who spoke to Theodore. Following etiquette, people from lower status should not speak to those higher than them. So, as long as I was there, there would be no one who would come close to Theodore. It was a well-known fact that I was a member of a Ducal household, but that was not the case with Theodore—a totally new face to this society.

Therefore, if we were apart, this would pose a big problem to Theodore if he got entangled by those people since others hadn’t yet known that he also came from a ducal house. For example: that flock of unmarried girls taken in by his beauty, the guys who would accuse him of being an outsider, or just simply difficult nobles.

…I still felt bad for exposing Theodore to those fierce probing eyes, but this was for Theodore’s sake and mine as well. I was hitting two birds with one stone.

“Theodore, thank you! Thanks to you, I think I can gobble up half of this corner for now!!”

We held four plates mounted with cakes. Seeing that, Theodore said to me with a battered face, “…Say, Urschel. I want to go to where there are no people.”

“Alright. They’ve been watching Theodore non-stop after all. Theodore is too handsome, so everyone can’t help but look.”

So, we retreated from the crowd and headed to a table at the corner of the venue.

‘Wowww! Sweets! Sweets!’

“I…am sooooo happy…” I couldn’t help but break out into a dopey smile that I wouldn’t normally show in social situations. Aaah, I had been living all for these sweets!

“You’re really… a guy who can be happy just from sweet treats…” Theodore, who had suddenly averted his gaze, let out a sigh of dismay and admiration.

So, I said to him, “Um. Probably yes! As long as I have sweets, I don’t need anything else. Normally, power, status, and money would lead to happiness. But, for me, sweets, desserts, and dolce! That’s all I need! In the future, I plan to build a sugar farm and eat custard pudding every day!”

Fufufu, certainly the best plan ever! CUSTARD PUDDING EVERY DAY….. Fwehehehe~

“…Urschel, you really… hurm, it’s okay I guess.” Theodore opened his mouth for some reason, as if he had something to say to me on his mind but quickly shut it.

‘Hm? Just what was that about?’

“Urschel, I’ll go bring the drinks.”

“Return quickly, okay? I’ll properly reserve this seat for you.”

“Okay, I’ll count on you for that.”

The corner of the hall was deserted. There weren’t any maids waiting for us, so we had to go get things by ourselves. But Theodore, who had been under so many watchful eyes, might find it more comfortable to be at this spot devoid of people. Theodore hurriedly went to grab a drink. I hoped he wouldn’t get tangled up too much.

Alright, while Theodore was not here…

“Thanks for the food!!”

‘Then, let’s start with the white blueberry tart with mascarpone cheese!’ I was about to eat the tart with a fork when suddenly—

“You’re Urschel Minusle-sama, right?”

A fine bearded gentleman in a red, royal chamberlain uniform bowed reverently and spoke to me. A red chamberlain’s uniform? Didn’t that mean he was the chief chamberlain of the royal palace? Why?

“Yes, that’s right? Do you have any business with me?”

At my question, the head chamberlain continued to bow his head and said with a stiff expression, “His Highness Prince Carlos, would like to speak with you privately. He’s waiting for you in the guest room.”

I had a lot on my mind at those words, but I asked the head chamberlain anyway, “Can’t I go after eating this tart?”

“No.”

“Only a bite…?”

“As I’ve said, no! Prince Carlos is waiting, you know?!”

In the end, I was dragged along with them.

‘NOOO! MY HAPPINESS!!!’

I was dragged along, crying as I inwardly bade goodbye to the mountain of desserts I had secured; secretly, I used my magic from the chamberlain’s blindspot.
