Chapter 17: We Received Approval!

Translated by: chocolalaProofread by: lil-valley

When Theodore and I told Father that we wanted to get engaged, he agreed rather readily.

“O-kay! Of-course-it’s-okay!!”

“Father, thank you!”

“Yes! I-am-enthusiastic!”

…He was talking somewhat monotonously, but let’s ignore that.

I could somehow see some bitter tears in Father’s eyes.

…No, bitter tears were clearly flowing down.

My father couldn’t take it any more; he started to make a fuss, “Wuuuu, I don’t want to give Urschel-tan to another man after all! I feel so bitter seeing Urschel looking somewhat happy! Although it’s better than giving Urschel-tan to a complete nobody, I still hate this! Uwaaaa!”

“You already agreed. It’s too late now, Father. Come on, get back to work.”

“Uwwaaaa! My son is being so cold to me! It’s far too soon for you to be so abruptly distant from your parent!”

“You should take this opportunity to separate yourself from your child.”

“NO! I don’t want to!”

Anyways, I handed a handkerchief to my father, who was crying–definitely fake crying–and I left his office with Theodore. As we exited the room, Theodore asked anxiously.

“Hey, Urschel, was that okay? Did he really agree to the engagement?”

“Yes, he properly agreed. If he has objections… It’s Father we’re talking about; in that case, Theodore wouldn’t be in this house by now.”

“…That’s true…” Theodore’s face contorted as though he had just chewed a bitter bug1.

Yup, that’s right. Father bawled like a kid back there, but if he truly hated this engagement, he’d do everything in his power to prevent it. Truly, by every means and methods that he could think of… without the slightest mercy. Though, if he really disagreed, the worst that could happen was that Theodore would be socially exterminated.

But…

“Theodore, if Father tries to interfere, I swear I’ll stop him! I could spread one or two facts about his dark history to the noble social circle so he would be ruined, or, if that doesn’t work, I’d use a drug to make him lose his sanity. I could just fabricate the fact that he has gone senile and needed to retire or something–he’d be gone!”

“…I appreciate that, but you’re also no less gruesome…”

Well, I’m still Father’s child after all.

“That just shows how much I’d hate it if he tries to prevent us from being together. Moreover, the Minusle motto states for one to be true to their desires. Therefore, I’ll be true to myself too.”

“What a family motto.”

As we talked, Theodore released a breath. “It’s all right. In the end, we received his approval. All that’s left is…”

“What’s left?”

“…Um, it’s okay, don’t worry about it.”

Why wouldn’t he let me know what was bothering him? Was it related to the Knights Order, or the Ministry of Magic?? It could be those, or… This was Theodore, so maybe it’s possible that someone already asked for his hand in marriage?

That… was not something I even wanted to think about.

I pouted and grunted; my jealousy reared its head.

“Theodore, we’ve received Father’s approval, so don’t you forget that you already got me, okay? And if anyone else tries to hit on you, just shake them off!”

“That’s a given. You’re one to speak.”

“Huh?”

Why me…??

“I don’t have anyone like that. You see, I have nothing that could attract others.”

When I looked at myself objectively, I didn’t see anything that could attract anyone to me. My appearance was ordinary, and I didn’t particularly possess any unique or strong traits…

As I tilted my head, puzzled, Theodore released a distressed sigh, “You’re much more of a charmer than you realise. You don’t even know how many people you’ve made fall in love with you…”

“I can’t really believe that.”

Because you see, I was never popular… But, wait.

Was it possible that my father had eliminated or kept away people who had fallen in love with me before I even noticed?

If it was Father, that was plausible… But, my suspicion aside, I had something more important to consider.

“Theodore, you should know you don’t have to worry about me. Anyway, I’ve got Theodore now. There’s no way I’ll look at another!”

“Well, if you say so…” Theodore looked away as he spoke.

Hmm, Theodore certainly was a worrywart, wasn’t he? To reassure Theodore, I hugged him. The ring laying on my chest was caught between us, and it was a bit painful.

Theodore was surprised to be suddenly hugged by me.

“Urschel?!?”

“Where are you looking when your fiancé is right in front of you? Hey, Theodore?”

“…!”

“All I can see is Theodore. Is Theodore concerned about other people?”

Theodore clicked his tongue and looked at me as I hugged him… Huh? His face, so close…!

*pecks*

“!!…!?!”

He kissed me on the lips… A surprise kiss at that…!

I blushed, and Theodore smiled at me smugly, “I also only have you in my eyes.”

My face flushed all over.

Oh my goodness, a beautiful boy’s smile was just too dazzling; it made my heart pound…! Besides, I still wasn’t used to Theodore’s kisses. I was only familiar with kisses on the cheek, but the kisses initiated by Theodore were on the lips. They tasted so sweet–the kisses could make one addicted to them and make one blush with each kiss.

“Th-that’s so sly…”

“So, shall we do it all over again, now?”

“N-No!”

Theodore had been making fun of me a lot lately. He became meaner, always playing tricks on me and making me nervous; it was really annoying.

Not that I hated it though…

“No! I won’t!”

“Oh, well, I guess I’ll stop kissing you again from today on…”

“I-I didn’t say to take it that far! Don’t stop kissing me!”

I didn’t want to lose Theodore’s kisses! When I hurriedly corrected Theodore’s misunderstanding, once again he… he kissed me.

“?!”

“Don’t stop the kiss? If you want me to kiss you so badly, just say so from the start. I’ll give you as much as you want.”

“…That’s not what I meant…!!!”

All I wanted to convey was, ‘Don’t do that now!’ but he stole a kiss from me…!! No doubt, my ears were all red…!!

“Theodore, you’re truly a meanie…!”

“It’s your fault for being so fun to tease… No matter what happens, I’ll protect you…”

There was quite a pause before he muttered the latter sentence, but I couldn’t catch it. So, I asked, “Huh? Theodore, did you say something?”

“No, nothing.”

chocolala: omg, their lovey-dovey scene is so sweet like Urschel~ But yeah, Theodore, you’re setting up a flag there…
Lil-valley: Lolol, I’m just over here thinking “I bet Urschel just tastes like pure sugar”
