The girl felt dizzy and closed her eyes again, on the verge of falling asleep. "My head is blurry."

Chu Lixue slightly relaxed, then sighed helplessly, "You have a fever. I gave you some medicine, but I'm not a doctor so I don't know to help you more. Also, some people came upstairs looking for you."

Chu Lixue had saved the girl because of her daughter's pleading. Since she already did it, she counted it as a future investment, so she also needed to maintain good relations with the ability user. Since she did not want to get in trouble, it would be better to ask about these people in advance.

She kept her eyes closed while her mouth curled into a slight smile "More like they came to get rid of me."

She apologetically looked at Chu Lixue, "I'm sorry, did they bother you?"

Since the apocalypse began, people scrambled to leave the city. It quickly devolved into robbing and fighting, conflicts over small provocations. While the military district was much safer, thinking of the origin of these guys, she was sure that the guys who came upstairs would take the opportunity to break in an ransack the homes.

"They were thinking of causing trouble but my dog scared them away." Chu Lixue replied.

Downstairs, Lucky was happily sleeping, with one of Chu Lixue slippers in his mouth, god knows what he was dreaming about. The corners of the woman's mouth lifted; a non-crazy dog was useful in a home.

In the current situation, dogs were closer and more trustworthy than people.

"Mu Ruqin."

After the Apocalypse, she had never dared trust anyone in his life, maybe aside from her closest family. She believed that self-interest would always trump altruism. However right now, thinking of Chu Lixue's identity, she could rely on her with a peaceful mind.

Seeing Mu Ruqin's outstretched hand, Chu Lixue returned the gesture.

"Chu Lixue."

Mu Ruqin again closed her eyes, thinking in her head that she already knew her name, nonetheless she said, "I will be troubling you for a few days. When I am healed, I will find a way to repay you."

The hand in Chu Lixue's grip went soft. Did she faint?

Chu Lixue checked Mu Ruqin's breathing, and seeing her constantly raising and falling arms, she figured out that she probably fell asleep.

Wait for a few days? Chu Lixue had just thought of buying the apartment next doors and bringing her over there! How should she proceed? Her home was pretty small, with only 1 small bed. Previously, she could still fit in together with her daughter, but now, with an additional adult, it would be hard. Chu Lixue stood beside the bed, pacing back and forth. She then tucked Mu Ruquin and her daughter back into bed and covered them with a quilt.

Chu Lixue understood, if Mu Ruqin fainted for a long enough time to have been moved to the room next doors, only woken up again while already being there, then there would be no moral pressure according to the rules of the Apocalypse.

The problem was that she had woken up halfway and realized that she was inside Chu Lixue's home! If she had not awakened, then nature would have run its course. But if she awakened back in that rough room now…

*Sigh*

Human nature was like that, at the start either give help or none at all. It was fine either way but if one helped then stopped there would be expectations, better to have not helped at all.

As for the patient upstairs…

Chu Lixue's eyes flashed. She did not mind an early investment, as it was her plan to create a group of ability users, to help the fire ability user but if the other party was evil-hearted…

"Whatever! What should happen, it would happen anyway. No point in losing sleep over that now!"

...

When Mu Ruqin opened her eyes, the warmth and softness made her think that she had returned to the time before Apocalypse. She slowly turned; the chest pain cleared her mind. Just as she was about to check her surroundings, she felt something move next to her. Her brain started; she finally remembered where she was. What shocked her however, was the fact that next to her instead of Chu Lixue, was a little girl.

She could hear the door opening. She turned her head with some difficulty. The bedroom light switched on and Mu Ruqin squinted at the person who had entered.

Chu Lixue held a cup of warm water and a bowl of fresh, but pretty poorly done congee. She had not expected that when she finished, Mu Ruqin would already be awake.

"You're awake? Just in time, I've made you some congee. You can eat it after you take some medicine"

While in a coma, feeding medicine was difficult. Chu Lixue had been unwilling to feed her, using her own mouth, an unknown woman.

Seeing her appearance, her personal life must have been rather colorful. What if she had a disease?

*Cough* *Cough*

Mu Ruqin remembered the voice and Chu Lixue's expression was quite blurred since she had not adapted to the lightning yet. She also heard panting and scuffling from the opened bedroom door.

"Is that your dog?" Her throat was so dry that even a few words caused his chapped lips to ache.

"Yes, that's Lucky." Chu Lixue responded.

She did not want to come in for hygiene reasons. Instead the dog cleverly entertained himself, chasing his own tail in the doorway, occasionally bumping into the wall.
