The marketplace was in the south part of the new residential district. While both districts were next to each other, it still took some time to travel between them.

Chu Lixue luckily could shorten that time however, as she managed to buy a working truck from a person new to the base, a few days ago. Since she needed to move lots of materials inside her house, she already predicted that it wasn't possible to do it without a car.

After traveling for 10 minutes, she found a parking spot and made her way into the marketplace. The government's part of the marketplace was mostly inside a big hall, while public vendors has their stalls covering up the streets around the hall.

Chu Lixue first decided to check out things inside the hall, where she managed to find and buy seeds used to plant lettuce, spinach, green beans, cucumbers, bell peppers and some root vegetables: radishes and carrots.

She also bought materials needed for planting, wood planks that she will use for shelves, and a ready-to-use home water distillation system, that only had a few steps to do before being ready to use at home.

Chu Lixue also noticed solar energy panels. Originally, the seller appointed from the government didn't want to sell it to her, since it was a restricted resource, but after learning that she was an ability user, also working for the military, she managed to buy enough panels to cover 3 of her windows. While it wasn't enough, at the very least she could use some electricity at home now.

What made her a little unhappy, was the fact that she couldn't find any small animals to rear. The government only sold dogs, with most of them being German Shepherds. They most likely found them remaining in a police station.

Chu Lixue decided to buy a pretty young one, being only 1,5 years old. Obviously, she couldn't eat him or rear him, but as he was already trained, he could at least watch her house during the time she needed to go out. Her home was close to the military base, so most people wouldn't dare make any trouble, but it's better to be safe since she's buying a lot of things now. Since she had no idea what to call him, she simply named him Lucky.

Afterwards, after going back to her truck and packing things up, she decided to go around and see if anybody had any plant type crystal nucleuses for trade. Plant type abilities were pretty common, but it still took her some time to barely exchanging 3 crystals. Even if she wanted to get more, most people simply didn't need her earth type crystals, since most ability users with earth as their element, were already working for the military, and had enough of them.

Walking back to her car, she was shocked to see a group of men running after a young girl. She looked pretty petite, with brown hair, blue eyes and a small chin. Her clothes were dirty, and she looked a little malnourished.

"Don't let her escape! That little shit ate the food we gave her, and now wants to escape? We can sell her for a good price, catch her!", shouted one of the men.

Somehow, Chu Lixue couldn't help but feel that the child looked pitiful. She wasn't related to the child whatsoever, but somehow, she wanted to protect her. Hesitating a little bit, she finally decided to help her just when the men caught up to the little girl. Showing Lucky to protect the girl, she made her way to them right after him.

Seeing that they were about to kick her, Chu Lixue shouted, "Leave her alone, bastards! A bunch of clowns bullying a little child, how shameful..."

"Oh, why don't you take her place then, little miss?", said the group's leader, seeing her dog already protecting the little girl. Honestly, his lecherous smile made her want to vomit.

Seeing that she completely ignored them, running to the little girl, the same man as before shouted, after taking out a knife, "Get them both! We can play with her and then sell them both!"

Seeing this, Chu Lixue was a little scared. However, when she felt the little child inside her arms shivering, she quickly composed herself.

"Make sure nothing happens to the girl, Lucky."

Chu Lixue didn't bring any weapons with her. Even if she shouted for help, they were currently in the corner between streets. Before anybody could get there, she would probably already be either dead, or taken away with the group.

When the first person got close to her, she decided that it's better not to overthink things. When he was about to stab her hand, she made use of her Earth ability and enveloped his hand with dirt, managing to steal the metal pole that was in his hand.

Hitting him on the back of his head, she had 3 more men to deal with. They approached her as a group, so she used her ability to make Earth sections separating them. After taking down another person, as she turned to another target, she didn't notice that behind her, the last man of the group was lurking towards her.

After a short brawl, she managed to get her current target to crawl at the ground. Unfortunately for her, just as she was about to look for the last man, he was already behind her. When she noticed it, it was already too late.

Hearing the little girl's scream, she closed her eyes, yet instead of pain that she predicted, she felt a little wet. Opening her eyes again, she could see her aggressor lying down, knocked out, in a pool of water.
