The Other Side of the Mask

In the previous volume/season, the main character, QiLing, was ordered to assassinate the crown prince, Huang FuLong, with her parents' lives on the line. She joined the Trials of Fantasy to become crown princess. With the poison she received from her boss, Mayor Chun, she poisoned the prince's food. In her mission, she found a handsome, talented young man called XiaoLong. Mistaking him for an assassin, she learns how to wield a dagger from him.

After failed attempts and her guilt of framing her friend TianYu, QiLing was captured. She was sentenced to death. She tries to escape from the clutches of death, bringing her parents along, only to find out her parents weren't her real parents, and all that care she received was a lie. She was about to give up on life from betrayal to have the crown prince somehow wake up and save her. The Crown Prince revealed that he was XiaoLong, which shocked her and added to the feeling of betrayal.

XiaoLong wanted QiLing to rejoin the trials while his parents were against it. QiLing chose to leave. Following a dream of the past, she found her real parents in the neighboring Ri Kingdom. It was true that she was part of the Royal Family of the Ri Kingdom, the lost princess they were searching for. QiLing's real name, YingYue, was a new mask she bore, a new life, or so she thought. The haunting memories of the Yue Kingdom couldn't go away. When she fought against pirates, she even met XiaoLong again. Then a dreaded day came: the Autumn Ball. One wrong move, and there could be war. She would have to meet with her past acquaintances.

Her friend, TianYu had become XiaoLong's concubine, and QiLing's heart sank even more, but she lied to herself, saying it was better this way. After being exposed, she was on the run again. She left and lived in the southern port town that she saved from pirates. However, the Pirate League attacked again, to get revenge. Losing many townspeople and pirates, it was a bloody battle. However, just when the fight seemed to be lost of all hope, QiLing was able to use grenades and force the pirates to retreat.

Finally, on Valentine's Day, she was found while visiting the festival. After the persuasion of many people, she agreed not to run again, and XiaoLong and QiLing married.

The Kingdoms which used to be one are now that one kingdom again.
