Chapter 7: Battling with Taoist Priest

“Second Sister, you must believe me. She has become really weird since she fell into the water. She even exposed the affair between Mother’s maids, Biyun and Xiaoqingzi. Now she has named the newly appointed top scholar and your secret meeting. She hasn’t returned to the capital in over a decade. How did she find out?” Gu Junyue saw Gu Junyao’s disdain and couldn’t help but straighten up her expression, recounting what Gu Yunru did yesterday.

“Such a thing happened? Father despises anything supernatural. Since she has made it difficult for me, I cannot let her be smug!” Gu Junyao’s eyes flashed with a hint of severity, and then she leaned over and whispered a few words to Gu Junyue’s ear. Gu Junyue nodded repeatedly and even showed a hint of a smile, praising, “Sister, you are so capable. Let’s do it this way. We won’t have trouble bringing her down!”

On the other hand, Gu Yunru returned to her yard, and the wet nurse and Qingxing were both anxious. They had slightly red eyes and said, “Miss, did Madam make things difficult for you? I heard she came back and got very angry…”

“It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m just extremely hungry. Let’s eat quickly,” Gu Yunru said as she entered the room.

The table was already set with food, but the dishes were very meager. There was only a bone soup, which was not very clear in color and had a layer of oil on top. There was also a dish of three treasures stir-fried meat, a dish of cold-dressed bamboo shoots, and a dish of scrambled eggs with chili peppers. Not only were the ingredients not valuable, but the appearance was also not very good.

As Gu Yunru had transmigrated over, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. On the contrary, Qingxing was very angry and said, “Miss, those kitchen women are too much! These are the basic dishes for servants! I said that our young lady just recovered from her illness and needed better food, but they said that Madam hadn’t yet assigned our young lady’s status, so these dishes are just for them to eat! Isn’t that infuriating?”

“I’ve said it before. How many stepmothers are good? Today, I also inquired that they brought back our young lady to arrange a marriage. This marriage must not be good either… Poor Madam, she passed away so early…” The wet nurse said as she wiped away her tears.

“Wet nurse, stop crying. I’m fine. Let’s eat some for now.” Gu Yunru sat down and warmly persuaded, “I think this food is not bad…”

She picked up her chopsticks and took a bite of the food, but before she could finish her sentence, she spat it out with a “pu” sound.

“This is too salty, it’s obviously deliberate…” Gu Yunru’s face was as dark as water as she suddenly stood up from her chair.

She was about to go and confront Madam Gu about the issue when the maid who had summoned her earlier arrived first. She had an unpleasant look on her face and said, “Miss, Madam has urgent matters to discuss with you. Please hurry over.”

Gu Yunru saw the maid’s expression under the light and felt a bit curious, as if she couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.

Judging by her past experiences, this was not a good sign. However, the maid had brought several people with her and if she refused to go, it would not end well for her.

After weighing the pros and cons, she reluctantly went with them and asked, “I don’t know what urgent matter Madam has for me. I haven’t even had my meal yet…”

“I don’t know either, I’m just following orders. Please come with me quickly, Miss,” the maid urged, pulling Gu Yunru along.

Gu Yunru lived in the west wing and it took her a while to get to the main house. Along the way, the servants she met all looked at her with curiosity and a hint of fear.

When they arrived at the main house, Gu Yunru could already smell a pungent odor. As soon as she stepped inside, a pot of dog blood was thrown at her, catching her off guard and drenching her from head to toe.

The foul smell permeated the room, making her nauseous.

“You demon! Where do you think you’re going?” As soon as Gu Yunru struggled to open her eyes, she saw a man in a gray Taoist robe swinging a peach wood sword wildly at her and then quickly pulling out a one-meter tall yellow paper from his pocket and sticking it on her forehead!

“Demon has appeared! Demon has appeared!” he chanted while tipping his head back to take a sip of water from a kettle before spitting it all out onto the yellow paper in front of Gu Yunru.

“Rise!” The Taoist quickly removed the yellow paper from her forehead with his sword and threw it onto the table.

Gu Yunru could clearly see a small monster covered in blood and with claws and fangs drawn on it.

“Burn it!” Everyone saw the monster on the paper clearly and were shocked, taking a cold breath. The timing was perfect. The Taoist waved the peach wood sword a few times, and the paper with the monster on it suddenly caught fire and burned to ashes in front of everyone.

“Madam, the evil spirit has been driven away.” After the Taoist finished his fluid movements, he said to the stunned Mrs. Gu, “Next, we only need to tie Miss Gu to that pillar outside, burn her with the Three-Flavored True Fire for fifteen minutes, and we can completely drive out the demon spirit and restore her to her true form.”

“Mother, did you hear that? Quickly have the servants tie up elder sister!” Gu Junyao, who should have been kneeling in the temple, carefully held onto Mrs. Gu’s arm, pretending to be afraid.

Gu Yunru saw the satisfaction flashing in her eyes clearly. This show today must be her masterpiece.

“Even if I don’t die, I’ll lose a layer of skin after being tied to the pillar and burned for fifteen minutes! ” Gu Yunru was furious and sneered. She took out a handkerchief from her clothes and wiped the dog blood off her face and hair. She said slowly, “This Taoist, didn’t you say that the evil spirit was already gone? Why do you still want to burn me with fire? Are you not skilled in your craft? Have you not exorcised the demon?”

“What nonsense are you talking about? I have been exorcising demons and removing evil for decades and have never failed. How dare you question me? It seems that the demon nature in you has not been eliminated. You’d better surrender!” The old Taoist furrowed his brows and wielded his peach wood sword, ready to stab Gu Yunruo.

Gu Yunru had already seen through his tricks. The bloody ghost on the yellow paper was just drawn with alkaline water beforehand. After drying, the yellow paper showed no traces, but once sprayed with turmeric water, the alkaline water and turmeric water would react, making the pattern appear as a bloody red.

Burning the yellow paper with the wooden sword was even simpler. A little phosphorus powder was scattered from the sealed pocket. Once it came into contact with the air, it would spontaneously combust.

Now the Taoist was about to use some Three-Flavored True Fire on her. Although he pretended to be waving the wooden sword around, his other hand had already reached into his robe to retrieve the sealed phosphorus powder.

Gu Yunru sneered coldly in her heart and casually picked up a large fan from the table.
