The Indescribable Diary

Chapter 32:An Argument

"From the last inspection, I believe that it was a flesh-eating ghoul. There wasn't any blood on him, and it looked like it killed humans for fun. Yes, this was a supernatural case. In America, all areas in the vicinity were put on lockdown. Everyone involved in the case had to sign non-disclosure agreements."

Juzi didn't have any qualms about revealing the non-disclosure agreement. Apparently, Juzi didn't take the secret seriously at all.

"Is that so? A supernatural event… but that only concerns America and has nothing do with us, right?"

Fengye was still a little confused. Although it was a supernatural event, it was probably normal to people like them, who often knew much more than normal people. Could it be a frankenstein-creature that escaped from a biological warfare laboratory in America? There was no way to be sure.

"No, it has everything to do with us… Originally, I didn't really care about this event, until Daocao dropped me a call." Juzi turned towards Yu Yi.

Nodding, Yu Yi said, "I had some questions when I saw the news, so I called Daocao to ask him to help me look for a victim named Trellis Mitchell. We all know what happened next. He found Trellis Mitchell. His head was cut off and somehow ended up on the neck of the flesh-eating ghoul. Trellis died from a stab wound in the back. He was slashed on the arm, with traces of self-medication. He fired a pistol before he died, as there was gunpowder on his arms. Unfortunately, the gun misfired and injured his hands."

Everyone was quite puzzled as they listened to Yu Yi describe the victim. Weren't they supposed to be talking about the flesh-eating ghoul? Why was the conversation suddenly about the victim?

The more Huahua heard, the more confused she got. She lifted her hand and stopped him. "So what exactly are you trying to say, Daocao?"

Yu Yi didn't speak and pulled out a torn character card.

[Character card: Trellis Mitchell. Identity: American Forest Ranger. Deceased. Cause of death: Penetration wound to the chest.]

The character card looked exactly the same as the photograph of the victim named Trellis Mitchell, which was found by Juzi.

"To put it simply, my novice instance mission took place in the southern forests in the US, where I played as the character named Trellis Mitchell, a forest ranger. In the BOSS battle, I successfully used my shotgun once and misfired the second shot as I got a massive failure. In the final moments, I blew the opponent's head off, but I was stabbed in the back when I wasn't looking. So… there's a reason why Trellis's head was on the ghoul's… Do you understand what I mean now?"

"Wait, so you're saying that the event in America is the same as your novice instance mission? And Daocao found someone exactly the same as your character card at the scene?" Fengye's expression suddenly became very serious. How was this even possible? It was impossible! However, the serious expression on Daocao and Juzi's faces forced them to consider the possibility."

"Not exactly. The flesh-eating ghoul seemed to appear after the death of my character. So, since I blew his head off in the game, he ended up with no head in real life. However… in that case… Nevermind. My friends, I have something truly terrible to tell you. This game is no longer a game. If we fail the instance mission, there would be a chance of the consequences appearing in real life. It's likely to be related to the difficulty of the instance mission."

Taking in a deep breath, he continued, "This is the information that I risked 90% chance of death for. Before the start of every instance mission, there would be a message about the [Level of Consequence]. Now, the game we're playing has a low Level of Consequence, which means that there is likely to be little effect on the world if we fail. However, from my sources, I learned that the more difficult the instance mission, the less likely it is to appear in real life. For this level of difficulty, the chance of the instance mission occurring in reality is one in a thousand, while plots like Cthulhu Battles Hasta have a possibility of one in a hundred thousand. So, in that regard, [Level of Consequence] refers to difficulty."

"Lastly, I have one more piece of bad news. Since I tried to question the accuracy of the information, the system had decided that if we failed this instance mission, we would be able to hold the Tai Sword in real life."

In other words, if they failed this instance mission, everything in the instance mission would appear in real life to prove the accuracy of the information.

After Yu Yi's voice fell, the entire space became silent. Everyone had heavy expressions on their faces.

"If this is real, we have to report this."

"I've thought about that before, but do you think anyone would believe us? Unless something huge happens, if not…"

Silence ensued again.

"Alright, no matter what you think, we have to finish this instance mission. Also, even if we report this to the authorities and even if the country is willing to believe us, do you really think that no one would log into the game in secret? Don't forget the massive coverage of the game. Also… are you sure countries wouldn't exploit the game to their advantage? To buy a bunch of items that don't exist in real life, wipe the team out in a simple instance mission, and make all the in-game items appear in real life. I believe many countries would do so."

Juzi clapped his hands and attracted everyone's attention.

"We should get through this troublesome instance mission first, before we think about these things. Yu Yi's information is invaluable. Although we don't know how true it is, let's just take it seriously. Juzi would prepare for situations like these. He'll collect enough information as evidence and report it. Now, the only thing worth celebrating is that there's relatively few COC players. At least, they only occupy around a quarter of all players. Most players are still playing Infinite, Holy Grail, and DND games. With such a low base number, everyone's likely to choose higher-difficulty games too. This would cause very little missions and monsters to appear in real life. Up till now, the only one we know of is Yu Yi's instance mission. Of course, there might be other cases, just that we don't know about them yet."

Indeed, just as Juzi said, if it was indeed true, the game could not be completely boycotted even if there was large-scale surveillance. Unless they were to force the developer company to turn off the game server. However, for a company that can achieve this, would it even be afraid of governmental pressure? Thinking about it, no one knew why this game had become so popular. It was like the game company appeared out of the blue.

Also, Yu Yi saw a strange hope. He wouldn't leave the game; not until he finds his answer at least.
