The girl in the Louvre

29 A beautiful smile

Although he was pampered as a child, because of his parent's busy schedule they were almost never home for dinners or lunches. It was because of this that he had started to make food for himself. Even though there was a full staff ready to make him food if he wanted it, the feeling of a meal made by a family member or friend somehow tasted better than something made by a stranger. There was no one around to make food for him so when he was just entering middle school he decided to have the next best thing, a meal made by himself.

As Zhang Mie busied himself he suddenly had a thought. 'She would probably be the first person to eat my food, wouldn't she?' The thought made his cheeks heat up again. 'To think she would be the first person to have the pleasure of eating my food.' While quickly chopping the broccoli, Zhang Wie accidentally slipped due to his absent-mindedness and the sharp steel knife sliced through the skin on his finger. It was so quick and sharp that he did not even notice until blood started to seep out of the wound.

Dropping the knife on the counter in shock, Zhang Wie grabbed his hand while gasping. "F***, ^&%*$&^%" muttered Zhang Wie quietly as he rushed over to the sink to put his wound under cold water. With one hand under the tap and another stretching out to open a drawer to grab a ban-aid, Zhang Wie's hands were stretched to the limit before he mentally slapped himself for his stupidity. Withdrawing his hand from the water he stepped over to the drawer and pulled out a band-aid before once again putting his hand under the water. 'What is wrong with me today? it is like my brain has stopped working.'

As he recalled the absent-minded mistakes that he made during the day he put on his band-aid. After he finished putting on the bandage he went back to cutting the vegetables. Before long steam was coming out of the wok, the oven had worn heat coming out of it and the rice pot was starting to bubble.

The first time he came out and placed food on the table it was a beef and vegetable stir fry, next was a simple coconut rice dish, and lastly was a vegetable quiche.

Starring at the food in front of her, Zhi Rou was in awe. Gulping quietly, she waited for Zhang Wie to sit down. Looking at the girl who was so obviously enthraled by his dished, Zhang Wie couldn't help but laugh. "Does it look good?"

"Very." Realizing what she had just let slip out of her mouth, Zhi Rou blushed before correcting herself. "I mean that your dishes look very good."

"Well then, shall we eat?" asked Zhang Wie while sitting down. Reaching forward he grabbed the utensil and leaned forward cut the quiche. Lifting up a slice he put it on Zhi Rou's plate. By now he was slightly nervous, to hide his expectation butterflies hee reached over to the rest of the dishes and served the rest of the food. "Eat as much as you want, there is plenty."

As she dug her fork into the small cust, Zhi Rou's mouth was watering so much that drool was almost flowing out of her lips. Lifting the fork up to her mouth, Zhi Rou's face melted in delight, content and satisfied with the dish in front of her, she quickly went to try the other two. tasting the gingery stir-fry and the coconutty rice she couldn't help but exclaim. "How are you so good at cooking? This tastes amazing!"

Hearing the words of praise, Zhang Wie's lips spread wide into a beautiful smile. Unfortunately, no one was there to see it as the only one in the room was too preoccupied with enjoying her meal. Zhang Wie joined her in enjoying the meal. Unlike his usual meals where there was on else to join him, this meal was filled with the thing that he was missing, warmth.

It was not the warmth that came from a hot fire or a heater. Instead, it was the warmth that came from one's friends, family, and life long companions.
