The Assassination Request

“And with that it’s all over. Nobody died, and the whole incident has come to a peaceful end. And everyone lived happily ever after. Perfect.”

“………Leonardo.”

“Now then, Francesca. Can I ask you and your watchdog to escort this lady out of here?”

Pointing towards Isabella who was still sat down on the ground looking completely dazed, Leonardo smiled.

“Of course, I could take her myself as well but, knowing that she is an enemy to you Francesca, I might just end up killing her instead.”

“……..”

This was all as planned beforehand in regards to how they’ll move once the assassin has been apprehended.

In the forest, after leaving the dance hall, members of both Calvino and Aldini families are lying in wait. There was also an observer sent by the King Luka as well to ascertain that the [mission] had indeed been accomplished as ordered.

But Francesca, continued to face down Leonardo right up front.

“Leonardo, what will you do after this?”

“Well, first I need to calm down the panic inside the dance hall. And if the mastermind happens to be somewhere nearby, there’s a chance they might brainwash someone again right?”

It was as Leonardo said, the mastermind’s brainwashing skill could be used to manipulate a large group of people as well. In fact, Francesca had already experienced something similar during her first night party, and had to go through a lot of trouble because of that skill.

“You know, Leonardo..”

While admitting his logic was sound, she refused to accept it and spoke.

“I, said it before as well, right? I was wrong to not doubt your lies.”

“…….Yes. I don’t forget anything you ever say to me.”

“And now, I feel like you are lying again to protect me right now.”

Graziano who was listening to their conversation frowned dubiously. Only the man in question himself, Leonardo, continued to smile nonchalantly as always.

“Isabella wasn’t the only assassin aiming for Marquis Savini’s life right?”

“Wha…….”

Graziano eyes widened with shock but, Leonardo’s expression remained unchanging as she expected.

“At that moment back then in the forest, I always kept wondering how weird it was that that person happened to show up at such a perfect time.”

That’s what she had said to Leonardo yesterday as well.

But by [that person], Francesca was not talking about Isabella at all.

“Why had Lord Savini suddenly showed up at the riverside so suddenly and out of nowhere?”

“——-……..”

Leonardo’s continued silence only further boosted Francesca’s confidence in her conjecture. Graziano who was now even more suspicious hearing his father’s name come up, ascertained his doubts with Francesca.

“What’s the meaning of all this young miss. That guy was a member of the Savini family, and was trying to drag the prostitute back with him right? That man…….Lord Savini probably wanted to make sure that things were going according to his orders, isn’t that why he showed up there.”

“No matter how much he may have wanted to bring the lady back, there’s no way the Marquis himself would come all the way to chase after her would he? Not to mention, he had already ordered his subordinates to chase her, he just needed to wait for them to come back.”

The reason why she had these doubts pop up in her mind was because that was something that hadn’t occurred in the game’s scenario.

But if she thought of it more thoroughly, the events that occurred by the riverside were very strange indeed.

“The prostitute the Marquis was looking for was Isabella-san. But not because he wanted to take her with him and make her forcefully work for her.”

“Then why did he……”

“I’m sorry I didn’t talk about this with Graziano beforehand. The Marquis made a requst to both Leonardo and Ricardo.”

“A request?”

The reason why she didn’t tell Graziano about it was because of Leonardo’s words and phrasing, she had interpreted it as the Marquis had made a [request to kill Graziano], that’s why.

But in truth, the reality was probably somewhat different. So as to not hurt Francesca, Leonardo had intentionally explained it in a manner that would bring upon such a misunderstanding.

“I think, the Marquis had already figured out that Isabella-san was the assassin that was targeting his life……..”

“Wha…….? But young miss, if that was the case then…”

“But because his subordinate found her first, and because we appeared by the riverside back then, he was unable to make Isabella [execute] her orders. That’s why, to make sure it didn’t fail again, he decided to increase the people involved, and made a request to Leonardo…….”

To be honest, she didn’t want to tell this to Graziano either. But Graziano’s red eyes showed an unbreakable resolve, ready to not run away no matter what Francesca’s next words may be.

In that case, she couldn’t run away either.

“………Leonardo, you told me right? [The Marquis had clearly made a request to kill], correct?”

“Indeed. That is what I had said.”

“But, the person Lord Savini had tasked you with [killing] was definitely not Graziano, was it?”

Francesca hardened her resolve, and then spoke that person’s name.

“The real assassination target is—-…….”

“Kh, haahaha!!”

Hearing the name she spoke, Leonardo burst out into a howling laughter.
