Spring Winds

Chapter 6 - Entrance Exam (1)

By the time the rain stopped, and the clouds parted, it was morning. The day has arrived for my long-awaited entrance exam. Looking around the cave, the girl from last night has left. In her place was a small embroidered satchel.

Hmm, a perfume bag. Smelt nice and seemed expensive. Maybe she is a young miss from a great family.

Snatching up the small bag, I tucked it into my pocket.

Arriving at the sect's gate, I showed the admins my number badge. He glanced at it and pointed to the central courtyard this time. Strange.

I walked up to the group of people that gathered there, about a hundred or so. It seems some new people were able to squeeze in. Seeing a supervising admin off to the side, I made my way over to him.

"Excuse me sir, but do you know why our groups were cut so unevenly?"

"Eh, it had to do with the reawakening of one of our peak masters, Master Luo. He said that he felt stiff and wanted to fight off the martial artists and challenge the cultivators. At least, that's how the story goes around here."

"Wah, so he challenged every one of them one by one? Wouldn't that exhaust his power and strength?"

"No, he fought all the martial artists all at once. As for the cultivators, he dealt with them after his match."

!!!

This man isn't playing around.

Okay, maybe just a little by how it seems the result of testing from the other day.

Other than the last few people standing, just barely, almost no one passed the entrance exam. The first that this had happened in a long time. Just thinking about it makes me shiver. To believe that there was such an amazing and horrifying monster here at this sect, I can't imagine just what would his disciples be. Perhaps the cream of the crop, the best and only the best would have the privilege to be his disciple.

"Well, funny enough is that he has accepted zero disciples in all the years he has been here."

"Huh?" What the hell! Are there no people that are worthy enough to be his disciple! Or is it that he doesn't bother to find one at all... "Why hasn't he accepted any disciples?"

"Eh, no one knows why. It's just that there had been no record of him taking anyone in for as long as anyone or any book can remember. Though, that doesn't mean there isn't a line of inner and outer sect disciples that want to be his disciple."

"Of course, from what I am hearing, one would need to acc.u.mulate eight generations of luck and fortune to have such an amazing master!"

"Well, who knows if he ever will take in one. Though the sect master is getting rather annoyed in his lack of interest in teaching one. Not that he dares to say it to his face though. It said that Master Luo is as old as this sects founding. That he was even the junior brother to the founding sect master."

What! How is that even possible! Sure, its known that a selected group of people could cultivate to be up to around 150 years old, but to be as early as the Yun Sect's founding! Despite this place being the youngest of the big three, it still carries with it at least 500 years of history! To be that old, he must be stronger than I thought. Perhaps, he's even at the brink of breaking through to being a Celestial!

"I'm... we're not going to face against him today are we?" Like as if I could get in if I were to face off against such a monster. I may be pretty capable, about above average in the martial scale, but there is no way that I would be able to survive just fighting him. If if we were to fight all at once, this guy defeated at least 100 decent martial artists! It would be effortless for him to fight off three people.

"What? Of course, not. Master Luo went to supervise the cultivation department today. When he comes back, you all would about done testing."

"Oh, okay. Thank you, sir, for your time." I made a small bow while cupping my hands and rejoined the small group.

Everyone here was a man, and I failed to see a single woman amongst the group. I mean, what woman from a good family would want to join the martial arts department? Usually, they're full of "brutes," and it is not deemed as a respectable place for a young lady.

But despite that, I believe I would be able to participate with them even if there is a physical difference between men and women. I refuse to let that slow me down from my ambitions.

By the time everyone had gathered into the central pavilion, three men had walked out to the group.

Seeing that they were the admins for the sect, everyone made a respectful nod and waited from the three men to introduce themselves. The one in front, and seemingly the leader, walked a little bit closer to the group before stopping.

"Thank you all for making your way over to our humble sect to potentially join us. As you all know, the Yun Sect has been about at least, if not more than 500 years. Every few years we open our gates for martial artists and cultivators seeking to join us in enriching and expanding the sect environment and glory." He paused to take a breath and let the group settle in a bit more.

"Since we all know the purpose of gathering here, let's begin! To my right, Master Wu will be overseeing the oral section of the entrance exam," the leader welcomes to the front an old, thin man wearing dark blue robes with a black outer robe. The black represents the martial department, while the dark blue represents the scholars of the martial arts department. They are well versed in different martial techniques and figure out different ways to counterattack those techniques. They are the tacticians of the sect.

"And to my left is Master Le who will be testing participants in the physical examination." The man that comes up last is also an older man, but it appears that he has not gotten weaker over the years in the least, as he still maintained his tall frame and powerful figure. He was wearing the black outer robes of the martial department and red robes. The red represents protectors of the sect. They are often the ones sent out on missions that are for the protection of the sect and are usually the ones on the front line.

In the martial department, there are other colors, but the majority of the groups are blue and red as they both serve a large part in running the martial department.

"Based on how you are ranked in this examination, you will be given a black robe if you pass. Where on which color you get, that will depend on your strengths and what your peak master decides for you." The man in front then gives us all a broad smile and askes, "Now, shall we begin?"
