Spring Winds

Chapter 2 - A Kite to the Nose

Holding a kite in one hand and my face in another, I, Ye Lian Hua, never had such a bizarre hit to my face.

Ever.

Not that I haven't had my fair share of face slapping and getting slapped. I often did get hit, when fighting or dealing with troublesome people, but a kite hitting you dead center in the face is a new mark added to the list.

My family name is Ye, and my given name is Lian Hua. My family comes from the country of Chu.

They allowed me to enroll in this sect in hopes of me bringing glory to our household and finding a suitable marriage partner. Because of the power struggles going on at home, I remain unengaged. I would most likely become an old maid of our family, but marriage isn't that important to me.

Usually, it would be sons that would be sent to go to these sect applications. However, my older brother is rather sickly and can't perform martial arts or cultivate.

Therefore, I was sent to the sect to take my brother's place and put our family name into the cultivation world.

I also wish to find someone to accompany me in this long journey into the cultivation world, but the bachelors in my country are not that great. They're just not the one for me.

I arrived here a few days ago and waited until the day the sect gates would open. I decided to cultivate a bit in the forest before they started.

Unfortunately, I did not anticipate that I would get hit in the face on my way to the sect gates.

Dead center with a kite.

Gripping the kite in one hand and my nose in the other, I check to see if it broke. Thankfully, it wasn't.

"Flying kites in this area is forbidden," said. Darn, this hurts. Hopefully, I won't get a bloody nose later.

I step closer to see the perpetrator, and I end up seeing a young girl.

She was around my height and age. Maybe a few years younger. She wore dark green and cream-colored robes with a chord for a belt. Hanging off of it was a jade green pendant. It had a slim rectangular shape and was tied together with red string.

Her hair was a brown-golden color in the light, but would probably be black in dimmer lighting. The long tresses of hair were tied to gather in a ponytail with a green ribbon.

Her skin gave off a slight golden color, but still rather pale. She had a straight nose, small lips, and large eyes.

Overall, she gave off a rather heroic look.

Also, based on her appearance and clothing, I could conclude that she came from outside the valley.

"What do you have against kites?"

Nothing. That is until your kite hit my face.

"It's written in the sect rules."

"Which one?" She asked innocently. The heck! Are you telling me that this girl wants to join a sect that she doesn't even know the rules of!?!

Keeping my emotions bottled and my face passive, I answer, "Rule 3464: No aerial devices on the premises of Yun Peak." Its simple rules to follow. If you follow the rules, then you can play the game. If not, then you're out.

The Yun Sect May have strict rules but serve a purpose. With these rules, Yun Sect was able to keep its foundation as one of the top three sects with the most substantial amount of sect members.

"If you wish to join the sect, you have to recite all of the rules to pass orally."

I look at the perpetrator. If she didn't even know those rules, then how she going to join the sect?

Before I could say anything else, a bell rang throughout the mountainside. It's time. The Yun Sect would soon open their doors for enrollment.

The girl in green also seemed to be aware of this as she looked a slight bit panicked.

"Umm, I apologize that my kite has hit your face. Please accept my apology!" She quickly cupped her hands and bowed. Then she dashed away into the direction of the gates.

I stood there and watched as her figure disappeared.

I rubbed the space between my brows. This girl...

No doubt, if she joined the sect, those days would surely be active. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Sighing at my misfortune. I make my way to the gates of the Yun Sect.

I look down at the kite in my hands and touching my bruised nose. I don't know what I'll do when I see this girl again. I didn't even get her name.

Maybe I won't see her again. Perhaps she will go to a different branch of the sect. I'm not sure, but I'll see where the wind takes me at the gates of Yun Sect.
