Space Race, Take Two

2 Space Race, Take Two. Part 2: Guess Who's back?

« … He did the mash ~ He did the monster mash ~ From my laboratory in the castle east ~ To the master bedroom where the vampires feast … »

"Really? Monster mash because I changed to another skinsuit?" I say, after hearing the old song after my coming to.

"Skinsuit? What are you saying, are you okay, mommy? Is dad okay?" a young voice says, which is weird since I don't have children. I open my eyes to a peculiar scene. Three young girls are at the sides of a bed shared by my new body and another man that seem familiar to me, but not enough to put a name or any information on him. The room looks old — no, vintage. The music I heard is playing in another room, and the sound quality is subpar. The girl's clothes are pretty. Old-school type dresses. The man's suit is clean and gives him a nice athletic look.

"I'm fine. Who are you again?"

"You don't remember?!" They look at each other, with distressed and sad look on their faces. "We're your daughters. We were preparing to go to church but all of a sudden, both you and James fell down in the kitchen and the living room."

"James? Is James here?! Where?"

"You're just beside him. You really don't remember?"

"I must have hit my head, girls, can you give me a minute, I don't think we'll go to church today."

"Sure, the ambulance should arrive in a couple minutes. We'll give you some space."

"Thanks…"

"Juliette. This is Katherine and Constance."

"Thank you, Juliette, Katherine, and Constance." The girls look dejected as they exit the room and close behind them. I need to understand what's going on. It's a shame I need to get reimplanted with Cassie to get access to its functions.

<I am here.> I hear in my head just when I started accepting that voice being gone for a few weeks.

"What? How?" I almost talked out loud, before remembering I'm not alone.

<Data insufficient. An explanation is impossible at the moment. The host seems to be in a new body. Congratulation for the successful shift.>

"It doesn't look like a skinsuit. It looks like an actual body. Can you run scans and check the network?"

<Scans initiated… Network connection initiated… Network connection failed. Beside weak TV and radio signals, no network is detected. Scan completed. Body: Female, Afro-American, 44 years old. Slight Arthritis. Slightly underweight. No body modification installed. No genetic modification detected. Natural human body at 98%.>

So I'm in a natural body, without any connection to the network, in what looks like a replica of an old house, with really old music playing in another room...

<Resonance with another assistant in progress. Nessa detected nearby. Touch the body on the bed to check if it is the host of Nessa.>
