Baron opened the kitchen door and left it open as I walked in. I nodded to thank him as I entered the kitchen. It was empty. There were no servants or cooks. I scratched my chin. That's weird. It's almost dinner time.

Oh yeah.

Most of them are probably preparing for the engagement party of tomorrow. Baron walked ahead of me and sat on an empty chair in front of a small table. There was an empty chair opposite to him. I sighed as my beating heart wouldn't abate. God above I have never been this nervous in my entire two lives. The awkward air around us was too thick to breathe in. Baron wasn't smiling as he usually does. Instead he had a solemn thoughtful look on his face. He went ahead and lit a cigarette.

Since when did Baron smoke? Never mind. He wanted to talk so let me listen to him. I sat down in the chair facing him. The both of us sat in silence. Jesus. This was way too awkward. I needed to break the ice. I opened my mouth yet nothing seemed to come out. I sighed. Baron did the same thing before sighing. Despite the multiple conversations we've had before it just seems like there is nothing to talk about now.

Actually there was too much unsaid between us that we don't know where to start. The way that we've first met was bad in the first place. I cleared my throat. Maybe we can mend things if we start over. I stood up. Baron looked at me with panic as if he was afraid that I would leave. I stretched out my hand and said.

"Hello, my name is Mila Rodgers, it's niece to meet you. Could I have your name please?"

Baron's green eyes clouded before tears fell from the sides of his eyes. He smiled through his tears and stood up. Baron clasped my hand and said huskily.

"I'm glad to meet you Mila Rodgers. My name is Baron Delaque. You look very beautiful this fine evening."

I chuckled as tears ran down my own cheeks. Baron smiled gently as he wiped his tears on his sleeves.

"Thank you Baron, you don't look too bad yourself. Since we are the only people here why don't we get acquainted as friends?"

Baron nodded as we pulled our hands away.

"I'm honored to know more about you my lady."

Baron then knelt and kissed top of my hand. I blushed as Baron stood. I then knelt on the ground and kissed t top of his hand. Baron's cheeks reddened as I smiled and said.

"I'm glad that I've gotten to know a friend as considerate as you."

Baron burst out laughing as I did the same. A couple seconds later both of our stomachs rumbled. Baron and I looked at each other as we chuckled. A couple of minutes later Baron was chopping up vegetables while I was cutting the lamb.

Originally I had wanted to cook but Baron said that he wouldn't let a lady cook by herself. This has struck me as strange as men of this time usually thought of women as people who should stay at home and cook or clean.

"Don't put too much of that Baron it could be quite spicy."

Baron nodded before sprinkling the whole container on the lamb. I slapped my forehead as I washed the lamb in a barrel from its "Baron special seasoning". I then told a pouting Baron to sit on a barrel next to me as I cooked. Half an hour later the meat and vegetables were ready. I set the food in front of us as Baron and I began to eat.

As I ate I looked over at Baron who gazed back at me. We blushed and went back to eating. I smiled. This felt nice. I don't hate Baron or dislike him. Instead I can now see him as a friend. If down the road I start liking him then I'll probably give in to my feelings and love him. But for now, as we ate lamb and vegetables in the Marquis's kitchen, I wished that time could stops this moment so that it would last forever.
