Silent Hacker

Lightning flashes, lighting up the dark house in a blanket of white. I jump when the thunder cracks and booms sounding like it's right over the house. I look to the window and jump again when I see Alec.

He quickly walks over asking "Are you okay?" I shake myself and ask "Where have you been? You and your buddy come flying in telling me the world is ending and that I can't do anything about and then the two of you both disappear for over a week! What the hell is going on!?"

He looks me over and nods in relief "I know this is a lot and if I had my way I'd take you to my house and keep you there but things aren't going my way. Nero and I were trying to locate the book any way we could but we kept running into dead ends. We couldn't find him..."

Alec says the last part between clenched teeth as I let what he says sink in. I saw the reports... I saw what was happening but I was still holding on to a small bit of hope that this was all a misunderstanding of some kind... like a bad dream but things were not a misunderstanding or a dream... no, it was a new reality.

"What does this mean?" I ask in a small voice looking to the windows as the skies open and heavy rain falls. "This means everything changes... I don't really know what's going to happen. I need to go check on my men. Stay inside where it's safe. I'll be right back."

Alec quickly shifts away leaving me shaken and alone. "Chip... what can you tell me?" Chip was still sitting on the computer desk with his eyes closed but slowly he opens his glowing blue eyes. "They are taking out the phone towers, TV stations, power stations, and other important facilities. Currently, the only lines up and running are the government lines but judging by the things being reported they may not last much longer. I will be switching to the satellites here soon."

My jaw hits the floor in shock... how could everything go down so quickly? I walk down to the basement and grab a few weapons. I strap a knife to my thigh as well before heading back upstairs. I easily find Chip in the dark house with his eerie glowing eyes.

I walk over to the computers switching everything over to an internal system and begin pulling up the surveillance cameras located around the house and the road leading up to the house. I bite my lip and wait. The world has gone to hell in a handbasket...

"Satellite images show more chaos and violence all around the world but it also seems that not everyone has been affected. Some are fighting back and running... it would be best to wait this out, Maya. This is considered the first wave but after this, we will have a better idea of what's happening and what we can do." Chip says as his eyes continue to glow.

I know it's caused by him going into "Overdrive" as he taps into everything at once but given the current situation I find it incredibly creepy... I shake myself and look back to the screens but I relax when I don't see anything.

What I know about Alec and Nero... those who are infected with the curse would be similar to them, right? I look down to the gun in my hand and frown. Was this even enough to stop them? I run my hands through my hair in frustration and wish again Alec would come back. I had so many questions...

I shift into my house and look around with worry. The house was just fixed but the windows had been broken again and things were thrown all around. I hear an explosion of some kind outside and pause... there wasn't anything I could really do at the moment.

I'm more worried about my men. I shift up to the second floor when I hear yells and gunshots. I shift in to see Nero ripping the head off one of the guards from outside, washing everything in blood. Trigger was in the corner holding his arm with Logan standing next to him with a gun.

I quickly shift to the office and find Ace and Packer fighting against a large man laughing hysterically. I shift over again and shove my hand through his chest ripping out his heart in the process. Ace's knees buckle in fatigue and parker quickly catches him.

"Thank God you got here in time... I thought we were goners." Parkers says as he lifts Ace and supports him under his arms. I quickly walk over and grab a few things before I walk back over to the two and shift back to Maya's.
