Chapter 14: You lose

The two young men stood in the middle of the square as all the villagers watched on. Everyone wanted to know if the previous number one genius of the Ye Family Village would take back his title after advancing to Martial Warrior.

Out in the watching crowd, Ye Meng was still jubilant, constantly exclaiming to himself: “My son is finally a Martial Warrior, hahaha…”

To the side, Ye Ba’s face was ugly as he glanced at Ye Meng, snorting as he said: “So what if he’s a Martial Warrior? He’s one step behind my son, and there’s no way he can win.”

“Your son just said that if my Tian er is a Martial Warrior, he’d eat that test boulder,” Ye Meng called back, and Ye Ba could only turn his darkened face away and ignore him.

Ye Feng paid no mind to this subtle struggle between the fathers and sons, his heart still filled with amazement.

The kid really advanced to Martial Warrior? Even if it’s possible to awaken the Martial Spirit after a failure, the possibility is tiny, yet this miracle actually descended upon our Ye Family Village. Are the heavens blessing our village, gifting us the birth of a powerhouse? Ye Feng wondered, his eyes filled with happiness.

Not far away, Village Chief Ye Shi and the Martial Instruction Elder were discussing the matter with the other village elders.

“What do you all think? Which one of the brats is going to win?” Ye Shi asked expectantly, his gaze falling upon the Martial Instruction elder, very clearly waiting for his answer.

But the Martial Instruction elder only smiled faintly, replying: “When Ye Tian broke through to Martial Warrior, he asked this old man to keep his secret.”

“The brat wanted to amaze us!” Ye Shi laughed immediately, and even though the Martial Instruction elder’s answer was roundabout, the Village Chief immediately understood.

“But Ye Wei advanced to the Martial Warrior realm before him, so Ye Wei’s cultivation is definitely higher than his. Accepting this challenge wasn’t wise,” a village elder added, brows furrowed.

“Not necessarily—they both only just advanced to Martial Warrior, and they’re both Level One. Victory will depend on their skills and expertise,” another elder replied.

“Even so, Ye Wei’s earlier advancement will mean his understanding of the realm is deeper than Ye Tian’s.” Another opinion was added.

“Alright, no one can be certain what will happen, so we will just have to wait and see!”

Ye Shi concluded, turning his gaze back to the teenagers in the center of the square, greatly entertained.

The elders stopped their discussion at Ye Shi’s words and all turned to follow his gaze.

At this point, Ye Tian and Ye Wei were facing off, both of their Qi pumping through their bodies at full strength.

Ye Tian was full of confidence, standing casually and only releasing the Qi of a Level One Martial Warrior as he stared coldly at Ye Wei.

The brat only advanced to the Martial Warrior realm a month or two earlier than me, and with only an Orange Martial Spirit, his cultivation cannot compare to mine! Ye Tian smiled coldly in reply to Ye Wei’s ghastly expression, his heart filled with disdain.

Even competing as Level One Martial Warriors, his experience and previous lifetime of training in the Special Forces enabled Ye Tian to utterly destroy Ye Wei in whatever manner he fancied; their respective combat experience couldn’t be compared.

How could a normal soldier with an AK47 compare to a Special Forces Soldier with the same weapon? And as an elite Special Forces Soldier, Ye Tian was a peak performance warrior who had walked through countless battles of life and death. Even if Ye Wei was at the same cultivation level, how could someone who had never taken a life be an opponent for Ye Tian?

As the two teenagers stepped into the arena, victory and defeat had already been decided. The village simply didn’t know it yet.

“Gaga!”

Ye Wei smiled fiercely at Ye Tian’s casual stance, clenching his fists and circulating a faint True Qi through his body and down his arms, bringing out a powerful force that crackled in the air.

“I’ve already cultivated to Level One Late Stage—so what if you finally broke through to Martial Warrior? You probably don’t know the size of the gap between the Late and Early Stage of the Martial Warrior realm, heehee!”

Ye Wei’s mouth quirked upwards in a cold smile and he pushed downwards heavily, shaking the earth as he shot forward towards Ye Tian. As he pounced forward, Ye Wei flourished both fists, pulling forth an ear-piercing wind.

This ordinary punch only utilized Ye Wei’s base cultivation as a Late-Stage Level One Martial Warrior, and Ye Tian truly had only expected this much. After all, Ye Wei wasn’t a Level Three Martial Warrior yet and there was no way he would’ve cultivated a Yellow Rank Martial Skill.

But even without a Martial Skill, Ye Wei’s punch was no trivial matter. Ye Niu, Ye Tian’s friend, was stunned by Ye Wei’s move and was filled with worry as he waited for Ye Tian’s reaction.

Ye Tian’s father, Ye Meng, was also clenching his fists. Although his face was calm, he was clearly quite agitated.

“Hu la!”

The piercing wind whipped forward, but just as Ye Wei’s fists were about to land, Ye Tian calmly made his move, unhurriedly lifting both his palms and pressing outwards with a wave of his Peak Stage Level One Martial Warrior True Qi, forcefully dispersing Ye Wei’s Qi.

“Hong!”

A blast filled the air as Ye Wei’s fists slammed into Ye Tian’s palms, and Ye Wei snorted coldly.

“A competition in strength? Truly courting death..” A twisted smile froze on Ye Wei’s face as Ye Tian calmly examined Ye Wei, ever so slightly shaking his head.

The next moment, an enormous wave of energy burst outwards from Ye Tian’s palms, pouring outwards like a flood. Ye Wei’s eyes fell open in terror and he barely had time for the beginning of a pained yelp before he was struck and flung backward.

“Hong!”

Ye Wei’s body flew through the air and slammed into the ground a distance away, and as he struggled to stand, he spat out a mouthful of blood.

The scene sent every single onlooker into an uproar!

The battle had ended too quickly before any of them could even react!

“You lose!”

Ye Tian said indifferently, walking over to stare down at Ye Wei.

“Puh!” Ye Wei spat out another mouthful of blood, his face pale and his heart unwilling as he glared up at Ye Tian, but in the next moment, he passed out.

“Wei er!” Ye Ba called out anxiously, rushing out from the crowd and picking up Ye Wei.

“Relax. He’s only fainted; he’ll recover in a few days,” Ye Tian said calmly. He hadn’t seriously injured Ye Wei, and it was the fury that had fallen upon Ye Wei’s heart that had forced him unconscious. Ye Tian hadn’t intended that at all.

“Hmph!” Ye Ba snorted at Ye Tian’s words, staring deeply at him for a moment before hugging Ye Wei close and striding away.

“Tian er!”

“Ye Tian!”

Ye Meng and Ye Niu were running over as well, their faces covered with excitement.

The crowd was still in an uproar, and everyone was staring at Ye Tian with astonishment and disbelief as if truly seeing him for the first time.

Even Ye Shi, the Martial Instruction elder, and the other elders of the village were filled with amazement.

“Peak Stage Level One Martial Warrior? Did he really advance only a month ago?” Ye Shi voiced his astonishment and turned with a look of confusion to the Martial Instruction elder.

The Martial Instruction Pavilion elder was also in shock, replying numbly, “When he came to the Pavilion, I tested him and he was indeed only an Early Stage Level One Martial Warrior, and he had clearly just advanced to the Martial Warrior realm.”

“In a single month, he cultivated from the Early Stage to the Peak. If he didn’t take a rare treasure… then his Martial Spirit is…” An elder spoke, his entire body shaking as the logic unfurled into the air.

Ye Shi and the Martial Instruction elder’s eyes gleamed and they both shot up to their feet, their faces gleaming with a ferocious excitement.

“It must be a high-grade Martial Spirit!”

“At least Yellow Grade!”

Ye Shi and the Martial Instruction elder called out in unison, turning to exchange looks and seeing only joy in the other’s eyes.

As the other elders heard their words, incredible happiness also filled their hearts.

These village elders all knew what this meant and what a powerful Martial Spirit would bring. It was almost guaranteed now that the Ye Family Village would have a future powerhouse.

“Let’s go! We have to ask him!” Ye Shi repressed his excitement and led the entourage of elders towards Ye Tian.

At that moment, Ye Tian had already been surrounded and the praising villagers around him were all filled with envy and respect.

“Ye Meng, your son is brilliant!”

“Truly the number one genius of the Ye Family Village!”

“I told you—Ye Tian would definitely make a comeback!”

The compliments brought happy laughter from Ye Meng’s heart and his face glowed with pride. At that moment, he felt as if today was the happiest day of his entire life. The achievements of his son had brought glory to him!

In contrast, Ye Tian was incredibly calm and was only speaking quietly to the excited Ye Niu. He looked around calmly at the villagers, his heart tranquil; he had seen this kind of respect before, but when he had failed to awaken his Martial Spirit, all of this had disappeared.

Now that the respect was back, Ye Tian was utterly calm. He knew with utter certainty that this world only honored experts, and only strength would be eternal.

“Ye Tian!”

An old voice filled the air, calming the crowd and immediately opening up a path for Ye Shi and the other elders as they slowly approached Ye Tian.

“Village Chief!”

“Elders!”

The villagers saluted them with the utmost respect. It was only due to these old elders that the Ye Family Village became one of the three major villages of White Cloud Town.

In the Ye Family Village, no one dared to disrespect these elders.

“Village Chief!”

“Village Chief!”

Ye Tian and Ye Meng both respectfully greeted him.

“Good! Good! Good! We can set aside the courtesies,” Ye Shi called out, his face glowing with even more happiness than Ye Meng. He stepped forward and placed his hands on Ye Tian’s shoulders, praising him. “Not bad! Son, you haven’t disappointed us, and you’re actually a Martial Warrior! Tell me, what grade is your Martial Spirit?”

As the question filled the air, everyone’s ears perked up and curious eyes turned to look at Ye Tian.

On the Shen Zhou Continent, a person’s Martial Spirit Grade laid out their future accomplishments, and so a saying gained wild popularity: the Martial Spirit was a Martial Warrior’s everything.

All the villagers were curious about Ye Tian’s Martial Spirit Grade, and since he defeated Ye Wei, then his Martial Spirit must be Orange at least.

As for a Yellow Martial Spirit? None of the ordinary villagers dared to believe that as in the entirety of White Cloud Town, the number of Yellow Martial Spirit warriors could be counted on one’s hands, and each one was either a genius or a powerhouse.
