Revenge to The Devil

Chapter 94: Dissipation

For a whole month, Jonathan, who had devoted himself to his career before, was idling away with me. Eventually, the shareholders could not bear his "dissipation", urging to hold a shareholders' meeting.

I also remembered that I hadn't seen Lisa for a long time. I heard that she had become a manager at the hall.

When I stood up and walked, I found that my ankle was ok. So, I decided to go to the club to see her.

I hadn't seen her for two years. She had changed a lot, her new uniform eliminated her previous enchanting charm, but added to the professional look of a career woman.

However, her personality had not changed at all. The first sentence was: "It's my honor that Mrs. Li is here."

"Lisa, long time no see, are you married?" I asked her.

"He maltreats me every day!" I held my chin and stirred the coffee. I was dazed in sweet happiness.

"I hear that Mr. Li is famous for spoiling his wife. When someone speaks of Mrs. Li, his eyes are brighter than the stars!" she said, convincingly.

"Really?" I asked.

"Really." Lisa leaned closer to me and gazed into my eyes, "In my opinion, yours are brighter than his."

I looked around sheepishly and found there were few guests in the hall. "Why is it so bleak here today? Is it going badly?" I asked.

"Ah! Since the police come to investigate, few dare to come here?" she replied.

"Why?" I said.

"Who knows! But you need not worry, your husband can handle it," said Lisa.

"Is his business very bad?" I asked her.

"Would you like something to drink?" Lisa asked, "Lemon or peach juice?"

"Lisa!" I said, really wanting an answer.

"I don't know much," she replied.

"What's the matter?" I asked.

"It is said that the new police chief can't bear the air of the underworld and is intending to put a stop to it. Many of Jonathan's casinos and nightclubs have been sealed up…" she was saying.

"That serious?" I asked.

"It's said that the police have spoken to him many times. Desiree, it is the right time for you to come back, he... " she said.

"I'm sorry!" I picked up my bag in a hurry, "I'll visit you another day, Lisa," I said and rushed out.

When I arrived at his office, the worker at the reception desk greeted me warmly, "Hello, Mrs. Li!"

"Is Jonathan here?" I wanted to know.

"In the office, just turn right. Shall I take you there?" she asked.

"No!" I replied abruptly.

No sooner had I reached the door of his office than the secretary stopped me.

"Mr. Li says that he doesn't want to see anyone," she said.

"I'm his wife," I replied.

"I know, but..." she started saying, but I ignored her and pushed the door open.

Just as the door opened, a gloomy voice said, "Go out!"

He stood with his back to me by the window, smoking. The papers were scattered, and his desk was empty.

I walked quietly to the table and picked up the papers on the floor and said, "Why are you so outrageous?"

"Desiree?" he turned around to see me, the rage turned to tenderness instantly, then he took my hands, "Why did you come here? You haven't recovered, how can you walk now?"

"I know you're having some trouble with your business. Don't worry, it will pass soon," I assured him.

He frowned and shook his head, "The police have taken my passport. They won't let me leave the country, even for a short trip!"

"Why? Can police detain people's passport freely and restrict their freedom?" I asked.

It was a deal, that after I recovered completely, we would go to Europe to enjoy our honeymoon, and have a wedding in a Spanish church. And he promised to watch my competition in the U.K.

For the honeymoon trip, I had almost looked through all the travel brochures, pondering about it the whole day.

"I am stained and will never become pure again!" he said.

Yeah, I forgot that he was stained. I realized that travel wasn't important. I grabbed his sleeve in a panic, "Would they track something?"

"Don't worry, it's all right. I'll try to deal with it," he said.

"What if it doesn't work? Will you go to prison?" I asked.

"No," he looked at me and said: "Desiree, I'm sorry, I have promised you..."

"Oh, yes! Then you must compensate me," I hugged him around the waist and kissed his face smilingly, "I want the most romantic wedding."

He said, "Well, I'll give you a surprise when you come back from England."

"Then I'll be back after the race in three days!" I said.

"Isn't two days enough?" asked Jonathan.

I knew it wasn't as simple as he said, but I thought he could get through anything when I was with him. How could I have expected that such horrible news would come so suddenly...
