Chapter 1: The Truth About Fate

As the villain in this book, Su Man’s role was not only to set up the protagonist’s tolerance and emphasis on righteousness, but also to bring one successful business deal and investment opportunity after another to the entire Su Group.

She was not only to become a tool of the “poor” Hero who had been bullied since childhood, but was also supposed to constantly serve as his control group.

In the novel, Su Man, as the villain and supporting character, not only slowly lost her family’s affection and love, but also her wealth, power and status.

Towards the end, her father, grandfather, and all her relatives despised her, thinking that Su Man was inconsiderate and overly greedy.

The protagonist’s friends and acquaintances also thought that she was vicious, cold-blooded and ignorant. They helped the protagonist undermine her in business dealings because of the profits associated with helping their friend.

They completely forgot that the Su Group had reached its present scale by relying on the funds and resources of Su Man’s mother’s family. The position of the group’s heiress was jointly outlined in black and white by the Su family and Bai family with a set of rules and conditions.

It was forgotten that before the illegitimate son showed his talent for business, everyone assumed that Su Man was the heiress to the group and the most outstanding successor of the younger generation.

Su Man coldly looked at the novel, musing to herself regarding its logic. Her role as villain could be said to have been squeezed out.

From time to time, as the novel skipped to and from the protagonist’s many girlfriends – from movie star to famous singer to rich family daughter – it pulled out stories of his sister for contrast.

It told the story of a cold-hearted, unlikable sister who, after getting married, misbehaves and causes her husband’s family, agents, and fans to all dislike her.

These chapters corroborate how she failed as a human being and was written off with an inevitable tragic ending. On the other hand, she was in direct contrast to the transmigrating hero, as the “righteous” and “favored” protagonist.

Watching the transmigrator change the fate of the illegitimate child by allowing him to reach his peak potential in life, Su Man only felt that it was outrageous. And yet, this preposterous reason perfectly explained what she had not been able to figure out throughout her lifetime.

Having already been reduced to a soul-like entity, she couldn’t help laughing and crying wildly.

The death of her lover, the betrayal of her relatives, the loss of everything – and even her life in the end – coupled with the complete collapse of her worldview made Su Man experience a great frustration she had never felt before. Infinite anger and sadness arose and suffocated her.

Seeing how the younger brother of the “illegitimate child” depicted in the book rose up step by step, stating that he would be the sole pride and reliance of the Su Group, Su Man only felt that she’d lost in her career unfairly. No one had dared to mention his identity anymore.

A person who knew the future plot, with the full support of his father and grandfather; a person who had brazenly taken away the projects she’d worked so hard on in advance; a person who had invested in the big CEOs who would develop in the future; a person who understood the weaknesses of everyone around him – how could he not win!

Everything made sense.

But she was unwilling!

For what!

Even if it’s only a book! The characters in the book should also have their own lives, destinies and choices!

Earn what you want by your own efforts and no one can say anything about it!

However, the transmigrator coveted the identity of the illegitimate son to a rich family. He used  the son’s grievances as a cover to ultimately take away the group’s property, justifying the action by claiming that it was his right to the “starting resources”.

And what’s more, he’d take away other people’s success as a nourishment for his own growth, stealing other people’s ideas, projects, and achievements. He’d rob legitimate children of their due property and then don the coat of wisdom and foresight for himself!

She simply hated it, simply could not accept it!

She thought about how studiously she’d been studying from a young age, how unimaginably hard she’d worked to acquire all the knowledge required as heir to the Su Group, and how strict she’d been with herself in demanding results.

After graduating from the world’s top-ranked business school with straight A’s, she returned home to start learning how to manage the family business, relying on her strength to achieve success step by step.

In the process, she was hindered and obstructed by certain people.

All the pieces of the puzzle immediately came to Su Man’s mind.

When she saw herself in the book, still clinging to the identity of the heiress of the Su Group, she had thought she was right to think about Yan Chengan’s acting career and ambition. However, they had ignored each other’s true thoughts and emotional needs and missed an opportunity for the two to open their hearts to one another.

Excessive rationality and politeness caused her to distance herself from her lover and made her more paranoid and desperate in her career.

After graduating and returning home, she became part of the “plot” and lost everything she cherished.

Replaying what had happened in the past in her mind, Su Man’s initial chaotic emotions calmed.

Seeing the later part of the novel where Yan Cheng’an had his car accident, she painfully cried out his name and burst into tears. After finding out about Yan Chengan’s feelings for her, she realized that they had missed so many moments together, including the time where two people could fall in love and stay together.

It was due to the fact that she was accustomed to wearing a mask in front of people, dealing with issues on her own, and concealing her heart from others. She was unable to pin these mistakes on others and the novel’s “plot”.

The reason why she still chose to pursue a career in business and started her own company after leaving the Su Group was not just for “revenge”.

It was more so because the career that had once forced her to study and work in order to succeed as heiress to the Su Group had actually changed her long ago.

She didn’t know when the previously monotonous and complicated position had turned into her true desire and become an inseparable part of her life.

After a long time, Su Man’s soul suddenly felt a sharp pain – so painful that she could no longer think rationally – and everything faded into nothingness.
