Chapter 41: Massive Colony of Reticulated Pythons

On Research Island.

In the Red Zone…

This zone was different from the other areas.

All of the humans who knew about this island also knew one fact: the Red Zone, where all the mutated beasts gathered, was a land of death.

If a normal creature entered this island, the probability of them coming out alive was less than one in a thousand.

The mutated beasts in the Red Zone were also extremely strange.

The island was divided into several large zones, yet the mutated beasts chose to gather in the Red Zone. They would kill each other and battle continuously, and wouldn’t back down even if it was just a small piece of land that was involved… Only a small minority of the mutated beasts would accidentally walk out of the zone, and for special reasons.

However, for the time being, no one knew what these reasons were.

Hiss, hiss!

Roar!

At that moment, in the Red Zone, over a hundred giant pythons occupied one side of a large swamp, whose waters were murky.

There was the constant sound of them flicking their tongues out of their mouths and roaring.

In the swamp, there were crocodiles who were horrifyingly large in size… Their scales protruded from their bodies like thick hills, and their skin looked exceptionally strong. Even a thrown spear probably wouldn’t be able to inflict the slightest damage to the crocodiles’ scales.

Moreover, these crocodiles were more than twice the size of an ordinary crocodile.

And they reached an astonishing eight meters or more in length.

They lurked in the swamp, waiting in ambush. Only their eyes and giant snouts peeked above the water…

Their mouths were lined with numerous sharp, lethal teeth, which made them look as if they could tear to shreds any living creature that dared to come near them.

There were over 50 of these crocodiles.

Faced with the pythons’ roars and cries… these crocodiles were unfazed. They merely observed the situation in silence, not reacting in the slightest.

A murderous atmosphere was spreading over the Red Zone.

To think that no mutated beasts could be seen within two kilometers of the marsh…

Now that the crocodiles have been described…

Compared to them, the reticulated pythons surely don’t appear any weaker.

The pythons were covered in web-like patterns, and they were all at least ten meters long… Some of them were over 20 meters long. Even Ye Bei looked incredibly small compared to them.

But what was even more terrifying about these pythons was their girth. Each one of them was as thick as a water bucket.

With their giant girth and immense length, the pythons could easily kill the crocodiles if they crawled out of the swamp.

The two parties were in a stalemate because they were cautious of each other.

The crocodiles would surely drag the pythons down into the bog the moment the pythons charged into the swamp…

On the other hand, it’s obvious what the outcome would be if the horde of crocodiles rushed out of the swamp…

This was why the two parties were in a stalemate…

Hiss, hiss, hiss…

The reticulated pythons flicked their forked tongues and hissed constantly, the sound ringing out continuously beside the marsh.

One hour!

Two hours…

Five hours!

For some inexplicable reason, these two parties were facing off against each other. However, as time swiftly passed, these mutated pythons and crocodiles gradually lost the calm they’d had in the beginning.

Roar!

Finally, it seemed like one of the giant reticulated pythons lost its patience, because it opened its mouth wide and let out an incredible roar.

It opened its mouth wide…

It opened its cavernous jaws to 270 degrees, looking as if it could easily devour and kill any creature.

After the reticulated python violently roared…

It charged toward the closest crocodile without holding back.

Creak!

It was incredibly fast.

It was like a bolt of lightning as it charged over… The pitiful crocodile that was closest to the python didn’t even have the chance to react, as half of its massive body was immediately swallowed by the reticulated python.

However, the other crocodiles next to the one the python swallowed also showed no mercy.

The reticulated python fell into the marsh when it attacked… Even though it managed to swallow half of the crocodile, a moment later, all of the other crocodiles manically swarmed toward it…

Wham, crash!

Rumble, rumble…

Groan!

These sounds rang out continuously from within the murky, filthy swamp. The crocodiles’ lethal teeth tore ferociously into the reticulated python’s body.

In an instant, the once gray-brown swamp was dyed red with fresh blood.

The revolting, metallic stench of blood lingered in the air.

The reticulated python’s proactive attack acted as a catalyst… After the other reticulated pythons in the area saw the group of crocodiles attack, they immediately took action and, moving their massive bodies, advanced at a blinding speed. A few of the pythons dove into the swamp, while the other pythons immediately followed behind them and moved on top of their bodies.

Boom, crash…

A terrifying massacre unfolded in the swamp.

The two factions were fully engaged in battle. None of them realized that nine pythons who didn’t originally belong in this area, and who were of a different species, stood a hundred meters away from the battle. These pythons were silently observing the battle, their gazes incredibly cold.

That’s right!

The leader of the group of pythons standing a hundred miles away from the swamp was Ye Bei.

With the help of the system, he saw the battle very clearly, and while his expression didn’t change drastically when he saw how things were progressing, his heart was shaken.

Reticulated pythons…

They were also called overlord pythons, or web pythons.

Even though Ye Bei had never been an avid watcher of Animal Planet in his human past, he’d heard a lot about this species of python.

The reticulated pythons were the largest pythons in the world… They were also the longest species of snake.

An ordinary reticulated python usually only reached eight to nine meters in length, while the larger ones could measure over 12 meters long. They were an endangered species, approaching extinction. Ye Bei had even read a news piece that said the biggest python ever reported was 14.85 meters long, and that python was a reticulated python.

Other than that, female reticulated pythons could spawn over 100 eggs at a time.

“How incredible! There are so many endangered species here! And these pythons are larger than the average reticulated python because they’ve mutated. Coupled with their powerful reproductive capabilities, they’d be perfect for the expansion of the snake colony.”

There was a constant glimmer in Ye Bei’s eyes as he observed the battle between the snakes and crocodiles.

But…

As Ye Bei murmured to himself, an ice-cold gaze suddenly landed on him from far away, and its terrifying, icy killing intent caused him to tremble involuntarily!!!
