Original Wolf -

Chapter 69 - 69 Retired

Freya was the first to notice Dahlia arrived, for she would never forget the feel of her tainted magic, her constant use of the dark arts has warped her in ways she doesn't even realize, things she once loved or care for mean nothing to her now, all she cares about is power and gaining more of it.

Freya- "Father she has arrived, I must prepare the weapon, make sure no one disturbs me until I'm done."

Mikael gave her a nod as he took guard outside.

Nevan who's now more into the habit of switching his eyes on and off every once in a while now, in an attempt to not miss anything like when jaguars were walking around the city without him know.

Saw a huge pillar of darkness enter the city- "Rebekah, I think Dahlia is here and I have to say she looks quite impressive, This isn't going to be easy."

Rebekah frowned as looked up to Nevan seeing his eyes glowing as he faced towards Niklaus's place where he was watching the pillar head towards.

Rebekah frowned- "What do you mean?"

Nevan turned to her with a serious face- "Rebekah I don't want you here in this city anymore, you need to get far away."

Rebekah worriedly asked- "Please don't scare me, how can she be such a big threat? she's as old as my mother, she shouldn't be anything like Freda."

Nevan- "This is serious, Freda was never a fighter and she mostly used formations to augment herself, but this...what I'm seeing now is far more terrifying, this is at the level of witches during the war, she is heavily infused with dark magic, depending on how she uses it will prove how formidable she is, it could prove very difficult."

Rebekah shook her head trying to deny him- "But you're much stronger then even back then, it should be easy for you."

Nevan turned gloomy- "I know we haven't spoken about the war, but it was anything but easy, even I had immense trouble facing witches, you don't seem to understand what a magic user is truly capable of, don't forget you were created by them,

a true magic user who is a master of the craft can accomplish anything, things we can only dream of, for all my strength it is limited,

for magic users this isn't the case, they technically have no limit, even the weakest of magic users can harness powers beyond what normal people can comprehend if given enough time and focus."

Rebekah paled hearing this, she always knew they should be on guard against witches for these very reasons, but she always came across weak-willed stupid witches who could easily be dealt with.

Rebekah shook her head- "That isn't true, what about all those witches we dealt with over the years, they were never that big of a threat, even ones who were claimed to be strong or had the years and experience to back them were still dealt with relatively easily.

Nevan smiled at her as he stroked her head- "The only question I have to that is, were any of those witches practicing dark magic?"

Rebekah- "I'm sure at least a few if not more."

Nevan- "My dear, dark magic is the pinnacle of the witching community, but after the war it was banned and sworn off because of the dangers, most of the surviving witches who practiced went crazy, some went on killing sprees and sacrificial rituals, they all without exception gained an endless hunger for more magic, you would know if you came across a witch using dark magic, it taints the very air around you once used."

Rebekah hugged him- "You don't have to fight her, I don't care about them, only we matter."

Nevan patted her back- "Don't worry, like you said, I'm much stronger now and she's only at their level, it'll be fine, besides I have to stop her now, if she were to get stronger from here it will only be harder in the future to deal with and at some point she could come after our family, she has some deal to go after every generation firstborn, who's to say that won't be our kids"

Rebekah- "I want to stay and help."

Nevan scrunched his eyebrows- "Absolutely not, you are carrying our future kid, no way in hell I'm letting you anywhere near a battle like this."

Rebekah buried her head into his c.h.e.s.t- "You better come out unharmed, I don't want our kid growing up without you."

Nevan- "It'll be fine, while she may be at the level of the witches during the war, she doesn't have their experience."

Hayley arrived at the house in a hurry once she received the call from Freya that Dahlia has arrived.

Barging in she yelled for Niklaus and Elijah as she went for Hope's room.

Niklaus arriving first asked- "What's with all the yelling? you'll wake our daughter."

Hayley practically screamed- "Why are you not picking up your phone, Freya called and said Dahlia is here and could be heading here as we speak."

Elijah entered the scene as Niklaus now with a serious face asked- "What?"

Hayley grabbed Hope out of the crib who started crying from the yelling- "We have to get somewhere safe now, she could be here any minute."

Niklaus looked to Elijah then back to Hayley- "And go where exactly?"

Hayley in a panicked state didn't understand what was going on with Niklaus- "What are you talking about? We have to protect our daughter, what's wrong with you?"

Elijah seeing the odd state his brother was in spoke up- "Niklaus we must get Hope to safety while Freya prepares the weapon."

Niklaus hearing Hopes name flinched as he looked towards his daughter, after coming back from his near-death experience and taking time to relax alone, he started thinking back on all the recent events that have led him to this moment and he started to resent his daughter who brought him here.

If it wasn't for his daughter would he be tied down fighting wave after wave of enemies, the love he has for her can only get him so far, the many losses stacking up, barely surviving through sheer luck has started to eat away at his psyche.

He was a man who was used to being on top, even when he was running from Mikael he had complete control and it barely affected him to have to run away now and again, but now he was no longer in control, no scheme was working, his power was inferior to that of his enemies, he was at a loss on how to continue.

At this very moment he finds yet another enemy he won't be able to match is coming, he was on the brink of giving up.

Niklaus gloomily said- "What's the point brother, there will just be another who we cannot match can not deal with."

Elijah grew worried, he's never seen his brother like this, the man who put fear in everyone he knew was nowhere to be seen at this moment.

Zooming up to Niklaus, he pushed him against the wall- "Niklaus you can't give up, this is our future, our family, we have to preserve, we can do this."

Niklaus snapped back yelling- "Do what Elijah, I am no longer in control, I no longer have any plans, their strength surpasses my own, what are we to do Elijah...are we going to run again? it was fine when it was just father, but now there are many more, will we run forever without stop?"

Elijah's mind was racing he knew if he didn't say the right thing now all would be lost. After a pause of silence, he spoke with new determination in his voice- "Then it's time for you to retire, it's time for you to be a father, do you understand Niklaus?"

Niklaus looked into his brother's eyes and couldn't deny he was affected by his determination, he gave a grin as he looked over to Hope- "Yes I understand Elijah, perhaps your right."
