Ore no Ongaeshi: High Spec Murazukuri

Episode 29: To the Rock Salt Mine

The day has come for me to challenge the rock salt mine.

Guided by Gaton, an old blacksmith of the Mountain Hole clan, you reach smoothly from the village to the entrance of the Rock Salt Mine.

"From this twin rock lies ahead of the“ curse ”of the spiritual beast... I remember"

"You sure are uncomfortable."

Gaton says he remembers the century-old time of the descent of the spiritual beast with clarity.

That the Mountain Hole clan, who was “cursed” and freaked out from here on out, made a tragic killing of each other among their peers.

My whole body's red flags are also making alarm noises. He said it was dangerous from here on out.

"Your face is blue, Mr. Jii."

"It's okay... I've gotten a little stronger in the last hundred years."

"Lai Lai"

Take a deep, deep breath and Gaton regains his calm.

Even a craftsman as stubborn and strong as he is will take a hundred years to overcome his fears. That alone provides a glimpse of the horrors of the spiritual beast.

"Is that really all the gear you need, kid?

"Oh, I'm fine"

Gaton calls out worryingly to my low level of armor.

I am equipped with only a few knives from this world with crossbows (crossbows) and arrows, as well as ropes and other outdoor tools.

I'm not even wearing protective armor.

"I listened to Jii and I chose"

"Well... ordinary weapons and protective equipment don't make sense to that spiritual beast..."

I had heard beforehand from Gaton about the characteristics of spiritual beasts nesting this rock salt mine.

It's a big, outward-looking four-legged beast that moves so fast.

'When I realized it, it disappeared from front of me and was circled behind me...'

Even at the time of the incident a hundred years ago, the Mountain Hole warriors said they were facing spiritual beasts in order to survive.

The Yamaguchi are a smaller race than men, but they have tough arms.

Armed with rock crushing hammers (oops) and strong metal armor, the Warriors have more fighting abilities than the Knights of the Bad People.

But the weapon that such a warrior of war wielded cleared the sky without even a scratch on the spiritual beast.

Conversely, the sharp claw teeth of the spiritual beast have torn their prized strong metal armor apart.

"The opponent is a fast moving beast that slashes and rips metal. I like this lightweight outfit."

"Oh yeah..."

There is no positive attack or common sense in spiritual beasts with special powers.

I didn't tell Gaton, but besides this, I have a secret weapon in my hidden pocket all over my body.

I don't know if it will lead to a spiritual beast that is human, but it would be better than not.

"Well, it's time to go. Everybody asked for the village."

Having completed her final confirmation with Gaton, I speak to everyone in the village who looks worried.

"Good luck, Yamato..."

"Brother Yamato, come win at all!

"Brother Yamato!

It was the village chief's granddaughter Risha and the children of the village, and the Han children who followed us so far.

The children are not all of them, but only a small part of the elderly group because they also have village jobs and patrols.

Like Gaton, both of them will say goodbye here at the drop off.

"Mr. Riesha, please, the children"

Yes, I'll take care of it, Brother Yamato.

What worried me was that the kids' crossbow (crossbow) squad would come after me to help me in the cave.

There is a great risk of being manipulated by the "curse," so I also stab the nails at the children to keep orders.

"Ya, Brother Yamato... ho, we're really going ahead..."

"Me, me, I'm freaking out and scared..."

Innocence and young children tremble feeling some sign.

Perhaps it is the killing or spiritual spirit emitted by the spiritual beast.

Nobody tries to get close to the twin rocks, which are the only boundary.

That was the same for old blacksmith Gaton and hunter girl Risha.

I don't put it in words, but I have an unpleasant sweat flowing through my forehead.

Perhaps the ordinary will not even be able to enter the mine because of fear.

"I'm fine. I'll definitely be back."

As we parted with words that reassured everyone, I proceeded into the rock salt mine.

Proceed carefully along the path in the dim pit.

"That's a pretty well maintained pit..."

Proceed with crushing to avoid echoing the surroundings.

I had heard from Gaton, an old blacksmith of the Mountain Hole clan, that the interior of the rock salt mine was maintained for easy movement.

The ground is easy to walk on flat maintained sidewalks.

On the side there was even something like a rail running a trolley, which would have brought the mined rock salt outside.

"Is this light moss (hikariko)? That's funny stuff."

The inside of the pit was glowing dimly.

This is because the luminescent moss (coke) planted by the Mountain Hole tribes is slightly glowing. Thanks to this, I can see enough without having to illuminate a pine light or a flashlight.

"It would still be a benefit of improved five senses to see clearly this far"

Strangely since I came to this other world, my five senses have improved in sensitivity.

Even in Japan, the eyes worked at night. But now only the dim light moss light is enough to make it sufficiently visible to the end of the pit.

"... Now, is there a big mining site down here"

The construction of this rock salt mine is not so complicated.

Gaton gave me a detailed map in advance, and I was memorizing it.

Take the main road straight from the entrance you came in. Then slowly down there is the rock salt mining site.

(And there's the spiritual beast...?)

Talking about Gaton, the spiritual beast descended there a hundred years ago. He said he should still be on the bottom floor because he rarely moves the bunk.

(Ok......)

The location of the destination further increases the alert.

Unlike forests and mountainous areas, there are few hiding places within this pit.

I'm less worried about being ambushed by my opponent, but on the contrary, I can't hide myself either.

The moment we discover and meet the figure of a spiritual beast, the battle may begin. Check the equipment you are wearing all over your body.

(If you eat even one blow, you're done...... anyway, move around and feed them a counterattack

It was also in Gaton's story that the spiritual beast is a four-legged beast type.

Anyway, it travels fast and doesn't hit any attacks. And even metal armor attacks me instantly with claw teeth that slash and tear.

(The alert level is even higher...)

Perhaps I am a carnivore of a species that I have never encountered in the woods and jungles of the earth. You should just assume that you look like a beast and it's something completely different.

"All right, here we go."

Alert and finally reach the lowest level mining site.

The surroundings are illuminated by light moss (hikariko) and glowing red.

The crystals of rock salt reflect the light and are such a beautiful and fantastic sight to see.

Hinyali, chilly and utterly silent. Creepy silence dominates the neighborhood.

"Where's the spiritual beast?"

I looked around carefully, but I don't see the spirit beast I'm looking for.

This lowest level mining site has no rock shade to hide itself from and no sign of the beast.

(No way, he's not here anymore...)

The Mountain Hole Gatons were attacked a hundred years ago now.

Maybe the spiritual beast has already disappeared somewhere.

(No... no sign... but I feel...)

But I felt "bad” earlier.

It's like they're touching my back nerves directly... like I'm stuck in cold ice all the way to my neck... such a really bad feeling.

(Don't rely on your eyes... feel it...)

I close my eyes and concentrate my consciousness.

Focus your consciousness on your mind flowing through your whole body, not your sight or hearing. This is an enemy technique I learned from my father, who called himself an adventurer.

(This feeling... was there...)

It was then.

I felt "sole” behind my back. I finally found it.

"... Now, are you the star"

There was a shadow of purpose ahead of the gaze I looked back at. The distance is free enough but no alarm.

"Is this the spirit beast..."

It was the beast of pitch black that was at the end of his gaze.

A giant spiritual beast shined its sharp eyes into the darkness, standing up to strike me as a small (so-called) beast.
