I was awoken by the sound of someone knocking on my door.

Lethargically, I got out of bed and put on some clothes.

Today's the day, I guess.

I opened the door to the sight of Robbie.

"You ready?" he asked.

"As much as I'll ever be, I guess."

"Haha, alright let's go, Elanor is waiting for us."

I followed him outside as we walked onto the bright open path. It was much busier than usual, a large number of military personnel were all making their way down the street. Elves and humans were slowly getting into formation in the middle of the road as they organised the teams. Our group was a little further down, with our own separate tent.

After a few minutes, we arrived. It seemed that we were the last two to arrive since everyone else was already waiting. Chloe, Alicar, Maia, Elanor and her elves were already preparing their equipment.

"Now that everyone's here, I'm going to explain everything."

Alicar stood in front of us and began talking about the operation.

"I'll lead the way, don't mind what the other regiments are doing, we have a very detailed plan of how we're going to penetrate the vampire hideouts. Behind our group will be a support regiment carrying everything that we'll need and any necessary supplies including food and medical equipment."

He rolled down a map and showed us a very intricate plan of the entire operation. There were so many symbols and lines that it was practically impossible to understand what was happening. He pointed at a specific path and showed it to us. It seemed that our group was going to be going straight into their lair.

"Now, I'm going to talk about the important part. Once we enter the vampire lair, no other support personnel will join us. From our scouting missions, we've deduced that bringing more people will only increase the casualties for very minimal benefit. This means that we will be by ourselves."

He took a breath and continued.

"Our plan in terms of engagements is this. Everyone will engage a vampire royal if they are spotted. At the moment, if a Progenitor is seen, do not engage it. Our only chance of beating a Progenitor is if we all work together and our chances are slim at that. I repeat, do not engage a Progenitor until we are together."

"Is the plan that we have to fight a vampire royal one-on-one?" asked Chloe.

"At the moment, that's all we can do. We'll have to do everything in our power to beat them by ourselves since it's very likely that we'll have to engage quite a few at the same time."

"Do you know approximately how many strong vampires they have?"

"Based on our recon, we predict that each of us is going to fight a Marquess-rank or above. It may seem dire, but you will do everything in your power to win, there are no rules."

The odds appeared very slim. We struggled to fight a Marquess as a group and now we were going to have to kill them by ourselves? To be fair, there wasn't much else we could do. This plan relied on very small probabilities.

"We have to engage them now, otherwise, they'll keep reproducing and we'll never have another chance. We've made contact with some of the highest-ranking humans who say they're going to deal with the other Progenitors. Our target is the Second Progenitor."

"Wait, if you've made contact with the highest-ranking humans, shouldn't they be fighting a stronger Progenitor? Why are we taking on such a powerful one?"

"The main difference is that we have the manpower. From our communication, the top 3 ranking humans are all taking on an entire lair by themselves. We have numbers, meaning we are the only ones with a good chance of beating them."

"Which ones have you talked to?"

"We've made contact with rank-two Noah Gait and rank-three Oliver Moran. We haven't managed to contact rank-one but we're hoping that she's also going to do something."

Our group took a short moment to observe the plan and clarify a few things before we finally set out for the mission.

"I've got a proposal," I said.

"What is it?"

"I recently unlocked the [Sword Saint] ability, meaning I can override a vampire's regeneration. I think Alicar and I will have the best chance of defeating a Progenitor."

"That's a good point. It might be a good idea for the two of us to stay together and focus on removing the progenitor. The others can focus on clearing out the royals so we can fight uninterrupted," he responded

There was some mumbling before everyone agreed to the idea.

"Alright, it's set then, William and I will engage the Progenitor and fight off any royals that come for us. The rest of you can focus on the remaining royals and any other troops that they may have."

"Sounds good."

I took a moment to set up my Minions. I was going to be using them for the defence of the city while all the troops were away. For the last few days, I had been observing the wall, trying to find out the best way for me to organise my Minions.

After setting up some code, I finished preparing the defences.

"Have you set up your Minions?" asked Alicar.

"Yes."

"Alright, well, I think we're prepared to begin making our way."

Our group got up and began making our way down the street. The other soldiers gave way as we walked through, it seemed that our Elite Group was respected by the others. With people clearing the way for us, we arrived at the gate in no time.

A few of the other regiments had already begun moving out.

Following the markings on Alicar's map, we began making the long, perilous journey towards the vampires' lair.

This was humanity's fight.

The elves and humans were teaming up to take out the vampires.
