23 – Barbarians (3)

“Cesar, long time no see.”

I felt something disgusting about Seria’s greeting as she greeted me with a grin.

It was a smile that was bright enough to make me feel the most beautiful in the world until a month ago, but to me, that smile felt like a simple pretense. And that feeling naturally darkened my expression.

“Seria, I never allowed you to sit here.”

“But I said it was deserted because there was no one in front of me.”

Seria showed her signs of hesitation for a moment, then she continued her words with blushing cheeks.

“As far as I am… I’m not alone when I’m with you…?”

“No, rather lonely is better.”

Seria moved for a moment, then she lowered her head. I didn’t feel any emotion towards her and opened her mouth.

“So when you say something nice, get up right away.”

“No, no.”

When I looked up at Seria’s face, I could see her tears welling up. Seria’s crying was so beautiful that if someone saw her, she would feel sorry for her.

“Cesar. I will never meet another man again. And I will only look at you So come back to me.”

Seria was resolute even in the midst of crying. It’s a fitting situation to say that she clings on while crying, but Seria’s posture was upright and she still seemed to say she had the upper hand.

I didn’t like her attitude that much. She is the woman who first committed an affair and even gave her first kiss to another man. She didn’t seem to feel the sincerity when she said that such a woman would never again in her brazen tone, she would, and she told her to come back to her.

“Seria. I’ve already given it several chances. Nevertheless, there is no reason for me to accept you again, who did the same thing over and over again.”

I got up after saying that. It was because he judged that there was no need to listen to Seria anymore. But Seria grabbed me as I woke up.

“Cesar!”

Seria grabbed my wrist and then she made a touch that seemed to have unsound intentions. Seria, who naturally made her pose as if she was hugging me, looked up at me from her pose.

There were still traces of tears in the corners of the eyes, and the teardrops were reflecting the light. The feeling of Seria’s white hair brushing my arm wasn’t very pleasant.

And as she drew closer to me, the scent of Seria’s usual perfume, which hadn’t been present before, paralyzed her sense of smell. I slowly moved away from Seria, as she almost fell into a sensation that reminded her of the past she had done something similar to Seria and her love.

I don’t know if Seria was shocked that I had rejected her or if she just had the idea that someone like me would reject her, but her expression was dark.

“Seria. How did you know I was here?”

Seria must have come to our mansion in the morning. And she must have come all this way to find me after the owner of the house heard that I was no longer with the Marquis.

It wasn’t a very curious or meaningful word, but it was an inadvertent remark that came out of nowhere because I thought I should say something as I was away from Seria.

At that, Seria wiped the tears from her eyes with her hand and opened her mouth.

“I was just… thinking about you, looking around the streets, and I saw you, César.”

If you just listen to her words, it can’t be anything but romantic, but I watched her actions and eyes. Seria isn’t very good at lying.

So it wasn’t a big deal for me to detect her lies. In the past, when she fell in love with Seria and couldn’t get out of it, when I asked her if she was dating a man outside of her, I thought that it would be better if she didn’t know.

But now being able to determine her lies had its uses.

Seria obviously went around looking for me. I felt a little bit offended by that fact.

“Cesar. I’m not asking you to fully trust me right now.”

Seria looked me into her eyes for a moment before speaking again.

“But give me a chance to regain trust in you.”

Seria made a determined expression while doing so. She seemed to think that even this would not be rejected. Looking down at her, I thought about her for a while.

But the time I was immersed in my thoughts was not that long.

Once trust is lost, it is many times more difficult to regain that trust than to gain it the first time. I never thought of going through such a difficult task with Seria.

“I hate it.”

Seria took a step closer to me at those words. And I pushed her away.

“Cesar…”

Seria could not hold back her tears. She didn’t cry out loud, but her tears ran down her cheeks.

One drop, two drops, Seria’s tears fell to the ground.

“Seria, if you don’t want to tarnish the prestige of the Duke of Argenta by being seen crying on the street, go back quickly.”

“Why are you so heartless…? Can’t you give me a chance?”

I was a little taken aback by Seria’s crying voice, but it didn’t take long for me to turn around and walk away from Seria.

I could hear Seria whimpering, but she soon disappeared.

“The Princess. We will definitely solve it. So please rest assured.”

Elysia could not help but feel that the nobles in this position were not very trustworthy.

Only now, she could realize that the nobles who were really talented and well-connected hadn’t followed Elysia herself. In the first place, Elysia could easily guess that she hadn’t followed up to this place because they had no idea that this negotiation would be successful.

“Duke Flair, is it possible?”

Elysia had no choice but to put her hopes on Duke Flair, who had at least some skills and connections.

“Now, everyone knows that it is the same as the Arit people having declared war. It would be best if we could solve this problem, but it’s practically impossible. That’s why we have no choice but to go in the direction of winning the war so that this problem does not directly damage the empire as much as possible.”

“I will write a letter to my brothers too. Since it is obvious that it is difficult to attract troops from the military, there is a chance of winning by attracting even enlisted soldiers from nobles.”

Duke Flair nodded his head at that.

“I can’t help it. We have already failed in negotiations. Now you have to take that responsibility. I have already ordered all troops in my domain to be brought in.”

With those words, I could feel that the people in the audience were looking at each other.

And after a certain amount of time, a nobleman appeared who said he would offer up a private soldier. And many such people appeared as if they were swept away by the atmosphere.

In the end, an atmosphere was formed in which all the nobles present had no choice but to say that they would give up their own soldiers.

Elysia, realizing that they were crying, couldn’t help but sigh.

“The Princess.”

”Lena!”

As Elysia saw Lena approaching her, she was overjoyed. She was Elysia who had just had a tiring conversation with unfamiliar people, so seeing her Lena, whom she had seen since childhood, was a kind of healing for her.

Lena was taken aback when her princess came into Lena’s arms, but she patted her princess on the back as if she were dealing with her child and spoke to her princess in a soft voice. .

“Does the princess look like she’s having a hard time? It’s the first time I’ve ever seen you talk like a child like this.”

“Ugh… Tired. They are too noisy.”

Lena smiled lightly at the words of her princess.

“When I heard it from outside, it was noisy.”

Lena accepted the princess’ complaint a little. Then she questioned her princess while holding her in her arms.

“Princess, did you send a letter to Cesar?”

Seria answered with her head still buried in Lena’s shoulder.

“Yes. I sent her a letter to see if you could help.”

Neither can Lena be sure that Cesar will help her 4th princess. However, the Lombardi family would have to choose a faction as well. And knowing that her boss likes to gamble, she has a feeling that Cesar will help Elysia for some reason.

“Maybe he will help. Do not worry”

“But… No matter how much Cesar-sama… Would it be possible to fulfill the Arit tribe’s request?”

Lena is deeply involved in the business and has known her boss for a long time, so I don’t know why Cesar knows, but I know she knows something about the underworld.

That’s why Lena thought that the possibility of Cesar helping Elysia was quite high. But she, Lena, she didn’t dare to say that idea out of her mouth.
