My Deep-sea Fishery

Chapter 778 Scary Jellyfish (Part 2)

Xiang Yang stood up, flexed his wrist, and said, "Since we met, do you want to make some money?"

"Spend effort to make money?" Wu Shiwen asked.

"Who says it's a waste of effort to earn money? Don't you know that stinging jellyfish are edible? And the price is not cheap." Xiang Yang said with a smile.

"What? Can jellyfish be eaten?" Wu Shiwen stared.

"Ordinary jellyfish are of course not edible, but stinging jellyfish are fine." Xiang Yang replied.

Wu Shiwen immediately became excited when he received Xiang Yang's affirmative answer. The number of stinging jellyfish in this sea area is terrifying. If they are really edible and expensive, then they can definitely make a lot of money.

Of course, jellyfish are not so easy to catch.

In the ocean, sea snakes have always been the existence of a poisonous king that makes people talk about it.

However, the fact is that most sea snakes are not as poisonous as jellyfish.

In particular, the box jellyfish has the title of the most poisonous in nature.

In the ocean, the most terrifying creature is not the great white shark or the invincible killer whale, but the jellyfish.

When a swarm of jellyfish stalks through a certain area, almost any creature, except turtles, has to stay away.

Xiang Yang walked to the side of the boat and looked down into the ocean.

Although the color of these stinging jellyfish is transparent, it is still easy to find if you are looking for it. They spray water in the ocean and reflect forward. When Xiang Yang stood on the deck and looked down, he seemed to see a flower. A crystal-like flower, like an ice crystal, is very beautiful.

"As expected of the creatures that appeared on this planet hundreds of millions of years ago, they can reproduce in Antarctica." Chen Qingsheng recalled that Xiang Yang once said that jellyfish appeared hundreds of millions of years ago. The history of the race is longer than that of dinosaurs, so he exclaimed in amazement.

Xiang Yang looked like Chen Qingsheng, and said with a smile: "What is this? The survival ability of jellyfish is much stronger than you imagined. They can not only appear in Antarctica, but also in trenches thousands of meters deep. Can occur in freshwater bodies."

Xiang Yang knows jellyfish very well, and he also knows the horror of jellyfish, and he is more aware of the disaster that a large number of jellyfish will bring to the sea.

Jellyfish are beautiful, and all kinds of jellyfish are raised in aquariums in many places for people to watch.

But when the jellyfish in the ocean reproduce like crazy, the jellyfish becomes no longer gentle. It is a killer of marine ecological disasters and a worldwide problem.

For humans, the rampant jellyfish is also a huge disaster.

For example, in June last year, a large number of jellyfish suddenly appeared in the waters near the Tunis nuclear power plant in Scotland. Those jellyfish blocked the seawater filter tank, and the liquid could not enter the refrigeration system. The two nuclear reactors had to be shut down urgently.

After local fishermen dispatched three trawlers to continuously salvage the jellyfish, the crisis was over two days later.

Last July, a beach in the United States was covered with patches of white, translucent jellyfish overnight.

Immediately afterwards, similar situations occurred in Dongyi, Israel and other countries. A large number of fish eggs were swallowed by jellyfish, and the ecological environment of many oceans was irreversibly damaged.

The jellyfish outbreak is definitely an ecological disaster and a worldwide problem.

Jellyfish is a very ancient creature. It is said that in the Cambrian Age 550 million years ago, jellyfish was the overlord of the ocean.

It's just that dinosaurs became the overlords of the ocean later, and then sharks and whales became the overlords of the ocean.

In fact, with the destruction of the marine ecological environment, starting from 2000, the jellyfish, which used to erupt only once in 40 years, has become an annual eruption all over the world.

Especially since June last year, the situation has worsened.

According to the US Science Foundation research team, jellyfish outbreaks occur frequently in at least 14 sea areas around the world, including the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the coast of Hawaii, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Whenever there is a large jellyfish outbreak in any sea area, the sea and beaches are full of jellyfish, which poses a great threat to the safety of local fisheries, tourism, coastal power plants and nuclear power plants.

Our neighboring country, Dongyi, is an island country that relies on the sea to eat the sea. Since a few fishermen discovered that what they caught was not fish but jellyfish in 2002, in the next two decades, hundreds of Hundreds of millions of jellyfish live in the waters of Japan.

In the waters of the Black Sea, whenever there is a large jellyfish outbreak, there are even more than a thousand fist-sized jellyfish per cubic meter of sea water, causing economic losses of hundreds of millions of dollars to the local tourism and fisheries.

In addition, nearly 200 million sea bathing enthusiasts and fishermen around the world are plagued by jellyfish. In Florida alone, more than 200,000 people are stung by jellyfish every year.

Even my country's coastal waters are the hardest hit areas for jellyfish disasters.

In July 2009, a jellyfish disaster occurred in a power plant in Qingdao.

At that time, due to the influx of jellyfish at the water intake of the seawater pump room, the workers continued to clean up around the clock. In the end, a total of ten tons of jellyfish were cleared out in three days.

The jellyfish invasion incident caused a great impact on the electricity consumption of nearby residents and industries.

In addition, for hundreds of millions of years, jellyfish have been lurking in the deep sea, and they have multiplied in recent decades. They have invaded the coastal waters of various countries and cannot be wiped out at all. Therefore, foodies all over the world who are not afraid of death have begun to cook jellyfish like Shennong tastes hundreds of herbs. Way.

After countless chefs and countless foodies followed up, the way of cooking jellyfish has really been researched.

Of course, in order to eliminate jellyfish, humans have done far more than these.

Take our country as an example.

In order to find the real cause of the jellyfish outbreak and control methods, my country's 973 project "Jellyfish Project" was officially launched at the end of 2010.

Led by the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a total of 40 scientists from six units across the country, as well as thousands of staff members, formed a very large research team to start research on the subject.

Sun Song, chief scientist of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said: "We use jellyfish as a carrier, and through its research, we can see what changes have taken place in the ecosystem in the coastal waters of China and how it will change in the future. This is our real purpose. "

There are more than 1,400 kinds of jellyfish in the world, and there are nearly 300 known large jellyfish species. As for which jellyfish are affecting the ecological security of my country's coastal waters, this is the first question to be clarified in the project research.

However, tracking and observing jellyfish in the wild is not easy.

Take the instruments on Gao Chuang's processing mothership as an example.

The detectors on Gao Chuang’s boat are the most advanced commercial detectors in the world today. The detectors can detect fish schools at a depth of 3,000 meters, but they can’t do anything to jellyfish underwater. They can’t even detect jellyfish at a depth of 10 meters.

This is because 95% of the jellyfish's body is seawater, and it is translucent, so it is difficult to see and detect it by sonar or optics.
