Chapter 1

"The money and the papers are here." The plump woman put a bunch of old copper keys on the dilapidated table and then snorted, "Don't forget that the fifteenth day of the month is the rent payment day. If you don't pay it on time, the landlord will come to remind you."

Leaving with that last sentence, the plump woman picked up the small bag on her side and swayed her waist-like-bucket away. Su Yu nodded her head and only when the woman left did she revealed a brilliant smile, her bright apricot eyes were full of longing for the future.

Five years! After five years of savings, she has finally realized her dreams. After putting the key in the drawer on the broken table, Su Yu walked outside eagerly, squatting down to look at the little cuties on the cages.

This is her shop and all the cuties here belong to her. Su Yu stretched out a hand to a white cat's paw, who only tilted its head to her.

This small pet shop with a total area of less than 100 square meters, not counting the basement, is her dream. As an orphan, Su Yu grew up without a mother or a father like a weed but she liked all small animals, and at the same time, the small animals were affectionate to her.

"Meow?" Su Yu's forefinger immediately felt the soft touch, she suddenly felt the urge to scream. Fearing that it may scare the little cutie, she held her scream and wished to open the cage to rubbed the cutie violently.

"Woof!" The dog behind her barked so arrogantly that Su Yu decided to take a look. What she saw is a white and black husky sticking its tongue at her, it looks cool and handsome but its silly temperament can be felt.

Su Yu's mouth twitched, the destructive power of the husky can be fully understood by just looking at how broken the cage is.

This is her pet shop...

Currently, It has a 20-square meter reception room and is home to two cute parrots. There are three cats in a 20-square meter cat house, and another 20-square meter dog house where four dogs live. The rest of the animals; hamsters, rabbits, and turtles were house in a utility room, which also covers 20-square meters of the area.

The remaining 20-square meters were used as a storage room where all the food, animal medicines, and daily necessities were stored.

Although the pet shop looks small on the surface, it has an underground basement. The area of the basement was the same 100 square meters and Su Yu's currently living quarters.

In the entire pet shop, they are only six kinds of pets which are very common species. Three cats, four dogs, five hamsters, two parrots, two turtles, and three rabbits.

Among them, the cats were of common breeds: A Chinese pastoral cat, a fat and small British shorthair cat, and a munchkin cat. The dogs were also of the common breed: a very active Husky, a mighty German Shepherd, a weak and thin Border Collie that is not good in appearance, and a rather lovely Golden Retriever with a golden collar.

The six hamsters (T/N: I think the author made a mistake here, the last said it was five.) were all the cheapest too: they were two beige teddy bear hamsters, two golden bear hamsters, The remaining one is a pudding hamster.

The little turtles were originally raised with goldfishes but now that they're dead, the two turtles seem a little desolate on their spacious fish tank. Both the turtles are very common Chinese turtles. The chattering parrots, one is a green tiger skin and the other, blue tiger skin. The two parrots looked more alive than any other pets in the shop.

The three rabbits were cute but according to Su Yu's observation, they all seem to be meat rabbits, perhaps two of the rabbits can be barely regarded as pet rabbits: One rabbit is full of brown fur with big eyes and its own little eyeliner, the second one has white fur with the ear tips and tail black in color.

These three rabbits are said to be small pocket rabbits but looking at them weighing more than seven or eight catties, it's obviously not the case.

It can be said that the animals in the pet shop are not only in bad condition but were also pitiful few in number.

Compared to the other pet shops with ponies, alpacas, lizards, and snakes, and other rare and expensive pets, the variety of her pet shop are small and simple. What's even more difficult now is out of the three cats and four dogs, two of them have babies.

Su Yu squatted down and continued to observe. After watching for a long time, Su Yu determined the British shorthair cat and the weak and obedient border collie were pregnant.

She put on her gloves to check them one by one and found out...

None of the cats and dogs in the shop were sterilized! So are they all vaccinated?

Su yu quickly dialed the number of the former shopkeeper and it turned out to be...

[Sorry. the number you had dialed can not be reached...]

Su Yu "..."

Fine. Forget it. Su Yu took a deep breath. Just treat them as if they haven't been vaccinated yet. The conditions of the cats and dogs in this shop are not good. She will condition them for half a month and slowly get them vaccinated one by one.

Thinking for the money, Su Yu suddenly felt her liver and heart trembling. Silently calculating her savings, Su Yu put the calculator with a weeping face and then begun to allocate residences to the cats and dogs,

In fact, for dogs, cages are still suitable to be cultivated when they lived in unfamiliar places and when different owners raised them.

But amongst the four dogs, one is pregnant and she needs to re-arrange them. Naturally, the pregnant dog has the right to live more comfortably. Moreover, the pregnant border collie is skinny and weak. If it wasn't fed a nutritious meal, the unborn puppies might be in danger.

The original shopkeeper obviously didn't cherish these small animals. Clearly, the initial plan was to separate the cats and dogs according to their habits but the shopkeeper was lazy. Su Yu even suspected that if she didn't rent the place, there will be no regular deworming and regular disinfection of the indoor environment.

...

Three months later.

Early in the morning, Su Yu was awakened by a soft pad. Su Yu opened her eyes in a daze and saw a delicate cat's face touching her face. She dared not move and quickly glanced down.

Sure enough, the British shorthair cat, who is a first-time mom bought her kittens again on her bed. Su Yu is getting used to the fact that the cats and dogs often stroll down on the basement, her living quarters.

Two months ago, both the pregnant cat and dog gave birth one after another. Su Yu helped deliver the babies herself. She thought that the babies were children of the shop cats/dogs but when she was cleaning up the cupboards, she found out a sign which said: "Cats/Dogs breeding cost 100 Yuan each." That is to say, the bunch of kittens and pups here came from the outside.

Su Yu understand that the shopkeeper wanted to have more pure breeds in the store, but it was obvious that the bloodline they 'picked up' was not that pure.

The British shorthair cat originally had no name so Su Yu named it, 'Shaban'. It gave birth to two cute dumpling-like shorthairs too.

The border collie gave birth to another pure border collie, she can't tell if looked good but its claws were not small.

"Well, what time is it?" Su Yu moved her shoulders carefully, letting the kitten sleeping on her shoulders gently slipped in the pillow and she cautiously sat up. "It's eight o'clock!" Su Yu lifted her quilt and got off the bed.

Today is November 15th. The weather is still not that cold. Su Yu would move up once the temperature got colder. She was going to buy a simple bed and put it in the utility room to live with the hamsters temporarily.

She draped the quilt on her body and while holding two small kittens, she went upstairs with her long 'scarf'. Though the basement is big enough, it was a little bit humid. As long as the weather was clear, Su Yu will take the beddings outside to dry.

The location of the pet shop was next to the university where Su Yu graduated. Although the location can be said to be very bad, it was the only shop that she can only afford by relying upon the money she saved from her work-study program.

For her, it was already satisfying.

There are only two days before the Double Eleven, the day before yesterday was the peak period for express delivery. People who work in the daytime are not there.  For convenience, the delivery address will be written to some familiar places. Although Su Yu hadn't been in this place for too long, with her soft temper and good personality, it didn't take long before her shop became a temporary delivery point.

Su Yu also bought a lot of pet supplies and her daily necessities during the Double Eleven Carnival. Buying more things adds up to a lot of discounts. The goods she had ordered in the past two days basically arrived and the half-empty storage became full again.

Su Yu didn't wash up first but open the store for some fresh air. There was no heating in the shop but there was an old conditioner. The conditioner will not be opened when the temperature was neither hot nor cold.

Electricity is too expensive for commercial use! She opened the store for three months yet hadn't sold a single hamster, she completely depended on washing dogs to survive! She's even poorer.

The two parrots in the store were still chirping and lovingly grooming each other's feathers. Su Yu looked at the parrots enviously, the birds have their mates and yet she's still a single dog. Su Yu hang the birdcage on the branches of the big tree at the door, she found them chirping happily in the shades of the leaves.

The open door began to blow in a cool gust of wind. The early autumn wind is not cold but it didn't have the irritating dryness of summer.

"Woof! Woof!" Needless to say, the one who can make such an energetic cry must be the active husky, who in the store, had the most expensive price

The husky's destructive power was really amazing. If it were the other three dogs, Su Yu can still open their cages but if it's this husky... she wouldn't dare. Su Yu says that the small amount of her savings really couldn't support the extent of the husky's demolition.

"I'm coming! I'll give you food first~"

Su Yu added food to the animals in the store one by one. She usually cooked for the pets in the store but there's nothing she can do about the parrots, hamsters, rabbits, and turtles. The proper ratios are needed. It's more nutritious than her fooling around making food.

After feeding them, Su Yu cleaned their excrements in the cage. Since the cats used the litter and the dogs have diapers (T/N: They do?) the only problem will be the rabbits and hamsters since they weren't trained. She can only clean their cages frequently.

After arranging for the pets and the shop, Su Yu closed the door and started washing her face. For the sun-loving cats, she took them to sunbathe in the windowsill and make way to the basement.

The iron stairs were so steep that even if she had walked into it a hundred times, she would still miss her footing and would become paralyzed in fear.
