Morningstar Of Sin

Chapter 47 - A Brief Stay In Asgard

(A/N: I have been a productive human today. I wrote the two chapters, fixed my computer, and played 3 games of siege. I am a true a.d.u.l.t at this point lmao. I hope you guys didn't expect this twist, I thought it was a pretty good subversion of expectations. Also this chapter is long AF.

I look at the ice giants corpses "So Heimdall, do you remember me?"

His golden eyes look up at me as two of the warriors help him up. "Lucifer. Of course. You may appear different but my eyes never forget what they have seen."

I smile at him "The sniveling brat is now a man, how endearing. If I actually cared I may have brought you a gift for old times sake. I see you followed through with the prophecy and became the watchdog of Asgard."

"It is an honor to serve my king." He speaks grunting through the pain. "My prince, Loki is mad, he has allowed the ice giants into Asgard. You must stop him."

My eyebrows raise "The great Odin has a traitorous son? How funny." I gesture ahead "Lead the way."

Thor gives me a glare as he flies off. I smirk at his anger as I flap my wings and fly off behind him. Asgard is much grander than the last time I was here, the last 3500 years have been kind to it.

The city is practically made of gold and marble. The castle is still around the same size with five tall spires and a large grand hall. The only difference is what used to be stone and silver is now marble and gold, a bit boring if you ask me.

Thor lands in the frontmost spire that leads to the greeting hall with the throne room adjacent. I land behind him and follow him closely as he marches through the halls. We eventually make it to Odin's chambers.

Odin lays in a large bed sleeping, protected by a large charm spread over the bed like a pod. Frigga did it obviously.

On the side of the room a man, with green and gold armor with horns on his helmet similar to mine, stands embracing Frigga. He stands over the corpse of Laufey holding Odin's spear Gungnir.

"Loki!" Thor yells as he pulls Frigga out of his embrace.

"Son, I knew you'd return to us," She says as she turns to me in surprise with a tinge of a blush on her face.

Thor releases her as he steps towards Loki "Why don't you tell her. Tell her how you sent a destroyer to kill me."

"It must have been following father's last command." He says in a shocked voice.

"You've always been a talented liar brother," Thor says standing across from him.

A small smile raises on Loki's lips "It's good to have you back. Now if you'll excuse me I'll have to destroy Jotunheim." He raises Gungnir towards Thor and a blast of Odinforce blasts out of it hitting Thor flinging him against the wall.

The wall shatters and Thor goes flying out like a ragdoll. It appears this is a recurring theme. He points the spear at me next seeing his mother standing in front of me he is confused.

I chuckle a bit "Good shot," I put my hand on Frigga's shoulder "I'm going to wake your husband really quick."

She turns to me and nods as I walk past Loki ignoring him completely. He runs off the second he realizes I'm not going to kill him.

I sit down on the bed looking at the bridge that supports the Bifrost with an observing gaze. The Bifrost is much more robust than the last time I was here.

I look at the sleeping Odin as I grab his arm to feel his pulse. He is weak, his Odin force is running dry, he has less than five years to live… maybe ten if he draws it thin.

I turn to Frigga who appears to know what I want to ask "Why has he not eaten an apple of youth? I did not give that tree to Idun lightly, she stayed with me for 713 nights in a row for eternal beauty and that tree."

Her face blushes a little at my words but she looks down "Idun was killed in the war against Heven… they also killed your betrothed… the daughter of Odin's first wife.."

The air around me trembles "They did what?" My words are calm but my voice shakes a bit in anger. Wrath leaks from my body illuminating the room in dark red light.

Frigga shivers at my anger "The queen of Angels killed her in her crib. Odin lashed out in anger and destroyed the branch of Yggdrasil that connected us. We were not strong enough to kill them so we made sure no one would contact them again." her voice quivers as she speaks.

There is an unbearable pain in her voice. The voice of a woman who lost a child she truly believed to be hers.

I stand up no longer caring about the state of Odin's body. "Who is the Queen of Angels?" I ask in a cold voice. I hear the Bifrost outside is starting to overload outside but I ignore it as I look into Frigga's sad eyes seriously.

"We do not know, but she must be one of your sisters… she is far too powerful to be a common angel." She says with teary eyes.

"Jophiel..." I turn with a hard face to the overloading Bifrost. I see Thor destroying the bridge but I am uninterested as I walk to the big hole in the wall pointing at the Bifrost.

As I stand there I hear the bed behind me shift. I turn to see Odin standing up looking at me with an odd gaze.

My stone expression doesn't change as I point back at the bridge. "Go save your children. We have to talk."

Odin nods as Odinforce courses through his body. His common clothes glow in prismatic light as they turn to armor. With a sprint, he runs past me jumping out of the hole in the wall that's 60 feet above the ground and lands with a slam.

I see the bridge shatter before Odin can get there and his kids begin to fall into the between. Thor saves Loki from falling off giving Odin enough time to make it over and grab Thor before he falls.

I watch as they begin hoisting each other up but Loki makes no effort to get up only talks. With tears rolling down his face Loki lets go of Thor falling into the between.

"Loki!" Thor yells as he runs over to check on his brother.

"Pathetic," I say as I fly higher till I'm just looking down at the figure of Odin standing at the end of the prismatic colored bridge.

He narrows his eyes at me "You've finally come back after all these years."

"Odin Borson. You have failed to uphold your end of the contract. You are a failure as a father and king. What do you have to say for yourself." My voice is cold as Pride and Wrath radiate off of me.

He looks at me angrily "You were not there. The realms turned against us with Heven's aid and we were overwhelmed. I only managed to save Asgard by giving my eye. I called on you but you never came."

"DON'T TURN THIS ON ME! IT WAS YOUR JOB AS A FATHER TO PROTECT YOUR DAUGHTER! MY WIFE." My anger causes the waves around to crash upon the bridge. Thor and Loki back away with trepidation on their faces.

Odin shakes in anger as his voice lowers suppressing himself "I was weak then, by the time I had the power I could do nothing. Now I am too old and weak, I have decided to move on since then…"

Swords appear in my hands in a roll of fire as I am tempted to decapitate the old fool. "When I return I expect you to have something to pay me with. If not the punishment from the contract isn't the only loss you will sustain that day."

Odin turns around in a huff grabbing his sons by the collars walking them to the palace. I turned to face the area the Bifrost fell.

"Yggdrasil! I know you can hear me! Come out!" I yell into the darkness still radiating red light.

From deep in the darkness green branches glowing branches begin to extend towards me. The branches are massive, easily hundreds of feet tall.

They come to a narrow end only a few feet away from me. Like a sapling, a young girl grows from the branches and faces me with an inquisitive expression. She appears only five or six years old and is completely n.a.k.e.d, made entirely of wood. Like a finely crafted doll.

"Are you here for another deal?" A childish voice rings out from the girl without moving her mouth.

"Yes, I will cleanse the vermin from your roots again if you extend your roots again. Extend your roots back into Heven and bring me there." I say in a calm voice but my anger has yet to fade any.

Her wooden cheeks puff "That meany cut my branch the last time I did that."

"He will not be a problem for you. He has less than 10 years to live… less than that if he tries to touch you again." I speak trying to soften my voice.

"Hmmmmmm. Fine." She says as she extends a hand to me. The branches below her quickly grow and scoop me up. The fabric of space folds as he branches pierce through them like hole punches on paper.

I am slowly lifted through the tears in space as the branches begin to fade the closer to a physical realm we get. They start fading into green light until eventually, a new light shines on the horizon.
