28 - For Her Dreams

Thus, the new job that Cain recommended Lulurun for began.

Lulurun started on a new plan, to save money for her dream.

On her first day of work, Lulurun was about to start training with her more senior aunti… older sister, accompanying her.

“Mew, mew, mew~ isn’t that Lulurun, meow?”

And when her shift was about to begin, there was a familiar voice from behind her, and when Lulurun looked back, there was Miris, Vice-Captain of the First Order of the Knights of the Holy Empire.

“Why are you here at this station, Lulurun, meow?” Mira asked, looking at Lulurun curiously.

But, when she sees the older woman beside her, Mira looks convinced.

“For a number of reasons,” Lulurun said, “I’ve been asked to help manage them.”

“Oh my, Miri, you happened to know Lulurun?” Lulurun’s supervisor said.

“She’s Lady Rhynes’ favorite, meow,” Miris said.

“Huh? What? What’d you mean by that?” Lulurun’s supervisor asked.

“She’s Lady Rhynes’ lover, meow,” Miris said.

“Lover?!” Lulurun’s supervisor cried.

“You’ve got it wrong! Hey!” Lulurun yelled, glaring at Miris.

However, Miris just smiles and speaks frankly while she spreads misunderstandings. Lulurun feels like her nerves about her new job have been eased a bit.

On a related note, Lulurun’s new job was the maintenance and cleaning of the Order’s various stations scattered throughout the Holy City of Magilia, very humble and honest labor.

The bases were like neighborhood police boxes in Lulurun’s previous world, positioned all over the city with rotating staff to keep watch over the streets.

Though they did not have as famous names or respectful positions as the Knights of the Holy Empire, Lulurun felt gratitude for the people doing the simple, boring work.

Working hours were from 6 AM to 10 AM, two days a week, going around each station to do the work described in the checklist, to protect the peace of the city! There was nothing to do but maintain the facilities, check the staff attendance, clean up, dispose of the garbage, etc… it was humble work.

To begin with, though she wanted to work at night, this job started early in the morning.

Cain said, “It’s outrageous for a young lady to work at night! Work in the morning!” and so it was.

“All that said, however…” Lulurun said.

The salary is good, it’s very good, it’s surprisingly good, it’s hard to believe it’s only twice a week, as you would have expected from a job introduced by Cain. If she works twice a week in the morning, she can continue working at the Magilia Dining Hall without any problems, which is an ideal side job.

On the first day of his work, Cain introduced Lulurun as an excellent employee willing to put in the work, and she was impressed by Cain’s casual kindness, Lulurun swore to do her best, humble as the work was.

“Thank you, Big Bro Cain,” Lulurun said.

“So, does that mean you’re a gofer for the stations?” Miris asked.

“Gofer isn’t quite right,” Lulurun said.

“Then a housekeeper?” Miris asked.

“That’s not good, either.”

“Anything you want then, Ms. Maid,” Miris said.

Annoyed, she finished up the conversation and headed out for her patrol.

“I’ll do my best like Lulurun too, meow!” Miris said.

“Yeah! Good luck, Miris!” Lulurun said, waving as Miris left.

Once she was out, her supervisor approached and spoke to Lulurun.

“A recommendation from Sir Cain, good friends with Miri, you’re a real mysterious girl, aren’t you?” Lulurun’s supervisor said.

“Well, I’ve got a lot of luck with her,” Lulurun said.

“So, what does it mean that you’re Lady Rhynes’ favorite?” Lulurun’s supervisor asked, her eyes lighting up.

It doesn’t matter if it was in a different world, an older woman was hungry for juicy gossip about Lulurun’s relationship with Rhynes.

“It’s not like that,” Lulurun said.

“Lady Rynes is the most powerful knight that both men and women long for,” Lulurun’s supervisor said.

“I think so, too,” Lulurun said.

“I’ve never heard of her having a favorite, let alone a lover,” Lulurun’s supervisor said.

“Really?” Lulurun asked.

“Yeah, I’ve heard she was the fair, clean, and righteous symbol of the Order of the Holy Empire, so she treats everyone equally, I’ve never heard of her giving her favor to someone specific.”

She could feel just how wonderful and noble Rhynes was by listening to how everyone else spoke of her. She wasn’t the one being complimented but Lulurun feels happy regardless.

“What are you grinning for?” Lulurun’s supervisor asked.

“No, it’s nothing,” Lulurun said.

“Anyway, you’re pretty to look at, too, so why don’t you try to emulate Lady Rhynes?” Lulurun’s supervisor asked.

“Yes, I’d like to do that,” Lulurun said.

“Then, let’s get started, shall we?” Lulurun’s supervisor asked.

With that, Lulurun and her supervisor immediately get to work.

“Alright!”

And when all these menial chores were done, Lulurun was deeply impressed.

In her former world, she was grateful for the part-time auntie who did all of the mundane chores at the company. She was a perfect employee except for her constantly talking.

“That part-time auntie was really amazing,” Lulurun said to herself.

She remembered the old days when she was constantly cleaning and organizing.

“I’ve got no choice but to be grateful,” Lulurun said.

She cleaned every corner with gratitude In her heart. The checklist is so well written that she could understand why she was suddenly made to do all this cleaning work.

And after the cleaning and equipment inventory, the work at this station is completed without any problems.

“Then that’s it,” Lulurun said.

“We’ll go to around 4 more stations just like this,” Lulurun’s supervisor said.

“I got it,” Lulurun said.

And when she tries to leave the first Knights’ station, Lulurun feels a presence coming over her.

“?”

“What’s wrong, Lulurun? Let’s get going!”

“Oh, right.”

There was no way she could have mistaken it, she had definitely sensed magical lethal intent. After immediately noticing it, Lulurun used a counter-spell against the source.

It was a spell that flooded the spy with excessive information to repel them. She couldn’t see them, but she could still probably do something about them.

“If you’re going to spy on me, do a better job of it,” Lulurun muttered to herself.

“Lulurun!” her supervisor calls out.

“I’m coming right now!” Lulurun yelled.

Lulurun hurriedly chase after her supervisor, she was naturally concerned, but she knew that if the spy was going to try something, they would have done it by now, it was no question that she would have been the target as she headed for the next station.

“I see, so her power is authentic…”

The source of the spying sensation disappears into the crowd, holding one bloodstained eye. It was Fates, one of the witch-kin of the Witch of the East.

Though she was surprised by the unfathomable power Lulurun held, Fates smiled.

“This one may be able to entertain the Witch of the East…”

Lulurun’s power ignites Fates’ ambitions, it feeds it like powerful fuel for a fire.
