Marvel: Starting From The Bottom

Chapter 58 - The Savage Lands

[Antarctica]

[Unknown Altitude]

Jumping with a parachute is extremely risky. It's a surprise that the chopper hasn't been impaled by spears and arrows yet.

The savage lands are quite unkind when it comes to tourism. And if I jump from such a high altitude with a parachute, both my body and the parachute will be impaled by a multitude of arrows.

The best way to survive would be to directly jump without the help of a parachute.

Now don't get wrong. I can survive even if my body is pierced by a million arrows. But that would be quite annoying. So, the safest bet is to jump… without any safety measure.

"Sir, we are at the location."

The pilot can only take me this far as the air pressure is quite high.

"Alright,  you don't have to pick me up. I am on my own from here onwards."

"Alright, sir."

I walk towards the opened door. Hesitation can get you killed. And I have no intention of dying.

So, I jumped.

We were quite high and if I fell straight down, more than a couple of my bones would be broken.

From this height, water is as good as concrete, there's no hay which can help to cushion my fall either.

So what's the next thing that can save me? Trees.

I drew out claws and directioned my fall towards one of the biggest trees that could be seen.

*SCREECH*

My claws clung to the trunk as I slid down the tree. The dragging of the claws against the trunk slowed down my fall before ultimately stopping it completely.

"Phew."

I slowly retract my claws and safely land on the ground.

The first thing that came to my mind was the fact that this place was even more worrisome than I expected. The place was as dense as it could get.

Most of the things that are available in other places are available here as well… but a little bigger than normal.

And by a little bigger I mean ten times bigger.

"At least I landed in a safe place." Safe in the way that there are no spear-wielding cavemen. "Now, where was the signal coming from?"

I took out my compass which I specifically designed to point towards metals that emit high energy.

And currently, it was pointing towards the south.

I had my claws out just in case of an emergency.

There shouldn't be any mutants present as Magneto was still a kid to alter the humans. My biggest concern is the lord of the Savage Lands, he is known to have keen senses that can pick up any disturbance from miles.

But I don't know who the current lord is. It could be Ka-Zar or maybe someone entirely different. Ka-Zar wasn't originally from the Savage Lands, so I don't think that he is the current lord.

I will have to avoid interaction with them if possible. They hate tourists, especially the ones from the modern world.

The compass pointed towards the west. Which was quite troublesome considering it was blocked by a large lake.

"I need to take a diversion." The problem was that there were two ways and I wasn't sure which one was the correct one.

[Minutes later]

"Damn it! Another dead-end!" I knew that this wasn't going to be easy but this was just annoying. Dead-end after dead-end was leading me nowhere, especially considering the compass was going ham.

"Ahhh!"

What was that?

[[Zala O'Heina]]

I shouldn't have come here alone. The flowers are beautiful and they only bloom in the morning so I didn't bother to tell my father about it.

And now an 'Ettutu' was staring at me. Ettutu is one of the top predators that live here and they are known to love the flesh of humans.

"E-Easy there. I am not here to disturb you." I slowly pick up and basket and stand up. Good, he isn't moving.

Slowly and without making much noise, I stood up and started walking but unfortunately…

*KYAAA!*

The Ettutu zoomed towards me.

"Ahhh!" I dodged it's attack but it still grazed me.

I need to run. Ettutu has poisonous fangs and it had grazed me. If I don't get a cure soon, I will die.

*KYAA!*

Its screech was strong enough to burst my eardrums, but I needed to run.

The predator rushed towards me but the trees were extremely dense and it was not possible for it to fly in this place. So it was quite slow.

I ran as fast as I could with the monster chasing behind me.

"I need to get out fast." The poison affects fast, it was making my mind hazy and my actions slow.

The best bet is to jump in a lake, it cannot swim. But the poison will surely make me drown. I have no other choice but to run.

[[Marcellus]]

It was definitely a  woman's voice and by the sound… She was in trouble.

Now, I have no reason to save her…

A smile appeared on my face. "Maybe, I do."

[[Zala O'Heina]]

I am dead. I am so very dead.

I cannot cross the lake and the poison is getting stronger.

The beast was closing in as well, but I was unable to do anything.

"Guess, that's how I will die." I was ready for the strike, but it never occurred.

*KYAA!*

I opened my eyes slightly as that was all I could do. My muscles were way too numb to move.

Looking at the scene in front of me, my eyes widened for a moment before the fatigue hit me and I drifted into the darkness.

'I saw a man with claws ripping the beast apart.'
